ONE OR TWO SCENIC DESIGNERS
Brejcha, Jan ; SMOLÍK, Robert (advisor) ; TÄUBELOVÁ, Kristýna (referee)
This master´s thesis tries to compare and evaluate experiences of the author from his master´s studies. On six selected plays it compares three types of theatre performances – theatre of a big scene (plays Plné ruce revoluce and Cejch), theatre of a puppet scene (plays Slzy ošlehaných mužů and Frankenstein) and author´s production (plays Proroctví severoamerických indiánů and Cern). It investigates its specifics, advantages and disadvantages.
Typography of web design
Uhlířová, Martina ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Malečková, Dita (referee)
Typography is one of the most important elements of web design and marketing. Good typography makes web design more appealing, which is important for readers in evaluating titles and the quality of text. The aim of this thesis is to provide a characterization of good and bad typography. I will use this characterization to identify modern typographical trends in a digital background. In the theoretical part, I will describe the basic features of typography. In the practical part, I will distinguish appealing typography and visual smog, and find specific examples demonstrating typographical trends in web design.
Visual Narrative Elements in Human-Computer Interaction
Galová, Ružena ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Fišerová, Michaela (referee)
User interface elements and the order in which they are organized and perceived by the user are creating particular narrative - visual narrative. This narrative, which is interpreted by users, should serve as a visual tool to guide users through the process of interaction. Meaning of the interface is created through visual relationships and their hierarchy. Visual narrative can guide the user through the necessary steps of interaction by using an appropriate spacing and enhancing of interfaces elements. Presentational diploma thesis demonstrates that structure of visual narrative has a particular impact on a quality of human-computer interaction. The case study represents application of constructed principles on the selected web pages of airline reservation systems.
Original and Assumed Sources on World Wide Web
Svatý, Michal ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Švantner, Martin (referee)
The thesis focuses on problem of authorship of the Internet content. It considers the question whether we can analyze the artwork purely as a closed structure of the symbols or whether it is necessary to take work as a broader structure. The first part of the thesis shows the Internet in general and its specifics it as a medium. The second part is devoted to the problem of authorship. It explains traditional view of Nelson Goodman, who examined the authenticity of artwork with regard to the internal arrangement of the elements structure of the object. The third part shows the later theories inconsistent with the views of Nelson Goodman, views of different contemporary authors who present the changes of authorship aspects in the environment which is under constant development, quickly sharing ideas and resources. New theories suggest to look beyond the authorship of the artwork domain, apply broader focous. The conclusion provides a synthesis of these views.
Product semantics and its benefit in interactive system's design
Ehrlichová, Lucie ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Ovesleová, Hana (referee)
The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the evolution of product semantics and its options in interactive system's design. This paper focuses on characteristics the emerge of product semantics and areas from which it derives. It also describes current methods of testing usability of interfaces that are optimalized by product semantics. Analyticcal part consists from interface analysis, testing using knowledge from product semantics and evaluation. Conclusion of this thesis is devoted to a concept proposal of design methodology using the knowledge from product semantics.
Influence of games mechanisms on user experience
Kracík, Radim ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Šisler, Vít (referee)
The work deals with the relationship between game mechanics and user experience. Identifies the basic gameplay mechanics and elements that have the most important influence on the quality of user experience. Research is realized on the example of a specific game using the concept of game design patterns. Part of the work deals with the introduction of this concept. Furthermore, the work deals with the general theories of games, models of classification and history of computer games. Part of the work is a description of the author's practical experience in creating games as a school project.
Visual Language of Comics and GUI Design
Šlaufová, Kateřina ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Ovesleová, Hana (referee)
The thesis VISUAL LANGUAGE OF COMICS AND GUI DESIGN is based on an assumption that comics and GUI both use similar features and techniques to communicate with readers/users. GUI as an influential cultural interface is based on languages of other media and as it is shown in this thesis, comics is one of its sources. I discussed similar features of both media - GUI and comics - on the level of their characteristics, semantics and on the visual level. On a general level the main features discussed are convergence and hybridity or the requirements for skills of the reader/user. Very similar for comics and GUI are also the limits emerging from the characteristics of the media they are using. The principal part of this thesis searches for common visual features and finds them in simplifications, sequentiality and multilayer framing and also with features like icons or text. The case study focuses on Adobe Photoshop CS5 GUI from the comics point of view proving connections in practice and showing GUI in new a context.
Interactive Narrative as a Mean of Analysis in Electronic Videogames
Csémy, Miklós ; Říha, Daniel (advisor) ; Brejcha, Jan (referee)
1 Abstract: This thesis is focused on researching options of analysis in electronic videogames, using the concept of interactive narrative. In analysis, the electronic videogame is always encountered as an individual piece of work. The thesis describes the model of interaction between the player and the electronic videogame based on existing psychological literature. The interactive narrative is used to describe the structure of the electronic videogame. The analysis happens on two levels. The first level is based on the game code, which is seen as the sum of options which may be actualized in the process of interaction. The thesis refers to this as the predisposed narrative. The second level lies in the moment of interaction itself, where the result of player's activity leads to representation of some of the aforementioned options and disregard of others. This concept helps solve the question of narrativity in electronic videogames by differentiating the fabula, which is the work of the original game maker from the interactive narrative, which encompasses both the predisposed narrative and its actualization.
Natural language in web-based search engines
Poláková, Barbora ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Pilecká, Věra (referee)
This study is focused on the natural language exploitation in the search engines of the specific web environment. This paper points out the multideparmental character of the problematic and interlink the basic approaches from linguistic, psychology, cognitive science, information science and neuropsychology to create more complex image of the problematic. Closer attention is given to the human as the impetus of the development and as the primary user of such search engines. Human information system is presented as model for the better user friendly information processing system. The character of the paper is fully theoretical and should give the theoretical background for further research. As the result of the research is recommended focus on the fully visual approach in the development with the exploitation of knowledges about HIS.
Principles of information visualization in public transport's information systems
Farkaš, Pavel ; Brejcha, Jan (advisor) ; Ovesleová, Hana (referee)
The diploma thesis Principles of information visualization in public transit information systems considers the ways information design affects one of the most common activities of people in an urban environment: the use of public transit system. In this work, the city space becomes a framework for several disciplines connected to the concept of wayfinding. The author sets the topic in a wide historical and architectural context and links the connections with cognitive science. The case study describes principals for information design using the example of the Prague subway and their application to an experimental station with a new information system installed.
