ON MOTIVE OF A MYTH, ON MOTIVE OF A DREAM
Černá, Tereza ; SMOLÍK, Robert (advisor) ; BAŽANT, Jan (referee)
This diploma thematically follows on my bachelor thesis The Choices for stagemanaging native tribes' mythic narrativesfrom the point of view of the stage designer. In my Bachelor Thesis I focused mainly on the research that preceded the production of my bachelor show Drink coffee, ride reindeer, as well as the mapping of the work itself, including the reflection. Now I extend my field of interest. I deal with myths, fairy tales and dreams, both in my own and in foreign works. I try to point out the points of contact between these three phenomena and to find their manifestations in the theater as well as in the visual arts. At the same time, I devote myself to describing how I build my own production, what is important to me in creation, and where I notice similar trends in other contemporary art.

Then there is illustrated the work of one German group which is dealing with the method of documentary theatre. As a following topic you can find the work of one Czech group which is using the laboratory approach in theatre. Thanks this approach their work is still on the edge between theatre, research and performance. At the end I listed my tree projects in which we used the method of devising theatre. I am reflecting the process of preparation as well as the process of creating, its result and of course the placement of the stage designer.

Ancient glass: Conclusions Based on the Analysis of the Collection at the Prague National Museum
Svobodová, Helena ; Ondřejová, Iva (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee) ; Bažant, Jan (referee)
The ancient glass collection of the National Museum has more than 200 completely intact and so far - beside few exceptions - unpublished vessels which encompass a wide chronological framework from the 5th century BC until the end of antiquity. The core of the collection is composed of mold-blown and free-blown glass. The analysis of the collection offers a view into the history of the ancient glass production; examples of all kinds of production methods can be found in it - from a corn-formed glass, through a glass made by sagging into a form, and up to a mold-blown and free-blown glass. A great number of various decoration techniques and styles used in antiquity are represented in the collection; also, it contains vessels from various places within the Roman Empire, as well as outside of it. The major part of the work comprises blown glass from the Roman imperial period (chapter four), both free-blown and mold-blown, and from this virtually half are unguentaria of various types. Almost all types of vessel produced in this period are found in this chapter. The vessels were ordered according to types - e.g. open shapes, closed shapes and in the framework of these types they are arranged further - according to other criteria which create other sub-groups - as for example forms without a foot or on a...

Meanings of Myth. Themes of classical mythology in Czech fine arts of the 1930s
Kocichová, Ivana ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Bažant, Jan (referee) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
Classical mythology has been one of the main sources of inspiration for European artists for centuries. It also remained current during the 20th century. From the 1920s, one can see increasing interest in classical myths; it becomes a source of inspiration even for artists of avant-garde art movements. The 20th century artist approach themes from classical mythology from a position of newly acquired artistic freedom. Release of iconographic conventions and academic rules, emphasis on psychology and individuality of a modern man brings specific forms of reception and reinterpretation of classical myths. In many cases, classical mythology carries allegorical meanings in a relation to contemporary political and social events, often in a very critical tone. But it also represents a tool for one's personal coping with reality. The thirties and early forties of the 20th century with dark atmosphere affected by war conflicts represent the culmination period of classical myths in visual arts. The tendency can be observed both in the art of European and Czech origin. Antiquity and classical mythology become the symbols of a return to the roots of European culture and civilization, symbols of the common European humanistic heritage. The collection of nearly 180 works of modern Czech art inspired by classical...
Greek and Roman traditions in Architecture of Chateau Kačina
Matys, Marián ; Bouzek, Jan (advisor) ; Bažant, Jan (referee)
The subject of this paper is the study of history of the Kačina Chateau from the point of view of its inspiration from the art and architecture of the ancient world. The introductory chapters were dedicated to the general atmosphere of the time in which the castle was designed and built, the general ideas of the Enlightenment, and also to its relations to Count Chotek. There is an unresolved problem whether its relations to Classical antiquity monuments existed directly, or if they were mediated by other sources. While working on the theme it turned out that the foundation of Kačina Chateau derived from earlier models that were developed during centuries. The work of Marcus Vitruvius Pollio was of substantial importance for all Classicist architecture and especially the architects of the Renaissance knew it very well and used it frequently. For the architecture of Kačina Chateau the most important stimuli were those of Andreas Palladio who transformed earlier patterns according to his own artistic views. One of the following chapters concentrates on the personality of the owner of the estate, the Count Jan Rudolf Chotek, and then on the architects and builders of the castle. Following chapters are dedicated to the description of the castle, of its exterior, the segmentation of its interior...
Titian, classical mythology and Ovid
Vorlová, Magdalena ; Konečný, Lubomír (advisor) ; Bažant, Jan (referee)
The thesis examines the classical motifs in the works of Titian. The author focuses on a closed set of works inspired by classical motifs (i.e. motifs of classical mythology), which were created for the Spanish king Philippe II. The thesis deals with the question of possible literary or material sources which could have been at the painter's disposal or could have served as his inspiration. The set of works is defined by themes chosen from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The question is whether Titian based his compositions on their classical version or on a Renaissance adapted or commented translation, or whether he even inspired himself by other classical authors.
