In the past, the hazel grouse was o common bird but not as abundant as the capercillie in the Šumava Mts. Currently, the hazel grouse is the only species of the Šumava Mts. of tetraonid birds that is not directly endangered.

General marked decrease of abundance of capercaillie population in the second half of the 20th century has afflicted the Šumava region less dramatically than the other regions of the Czech Republic. However, at the turn of the 70s and 80s, capercailli disappeared from the foothills of the Šumava Mts., and even the part of the population inhabiting the southeastern part of the Šumava Mts, came close to extinction.
Tetraonid birds in the Jeseníky Mts: chances for survival

The massif of the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. was known for occurrence and even hunting of capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) as well as black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century. However, even in this area, we have noticed a marked decre of abundance of both species. This is why we have been gathering all information about the occurrence of tetraonid birds at the Landscape Protected Area Jeseníky Mts. since 1987.

The yearly fishery yields in the lower reaches of the river Dyje downstream of the Nové Mlýny Reservoirs (South Moravia, Czech Republic), realised by anglers during 1984-1998 were analysed. The results document that, after the arbitrary decrease of wa level by 85 cm in the reservoirs "Věstonická" and "Novomlýnská", a short-term, however significant, increase of the overall as well as of the carp's fishing results occurred in the adjacent riverine fishing grounds during 1996. Although mustelids comprise the most abundant group of predators in the Czech Republic, they are one of the least studied groups of our mammals. Since there is an absence of data necessary for their protection or the level of management, data about for ecology and abundance of oine marten (Martes martes), stone marten (M. foina), western polecat (Mustela putorius), steppe polecat (M. eversmannii), weasel (M. nivalis) and stoat (M. erminea) were synthesized.

Expansion of tubenose goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus) in the Czech Republic

The first record of several specimens of tubenose goby (Proterorhinus marmoratus) was in 1994 from the single place of stony bank of upper lake of the Nové Mlýny reservoirs, far away from its original distribution area.is spread around the whole lake and penetrated downstream to the second and third lake further downstream to the Dyje river.
