A pedestrian tunnel through the embankment of the Powder Bridge. Archaeology of the youngest past of the Prague Castle

A rescue archaeological field work was caused by construction of a pedestrian tunnel cutting through the embankment of the Powder Bridge. A rather large collection of material culture was obtained - pottery, tiles, construction materials, metal and glass artefacts and biofacts, mainly of Modern Age dating.

The article is focused on the inscribed 'Libice steles' uncovered in 1953 in Libice nad Cidlinou. It presents a revision of the finding circumstances as well as the present opinions on interpretation of the inscription fragments. The analysis confirms the dating of the 'Libice steles' in the second half of the 10th century.
Vyšehrad: from a medieval fortification to an Early Baroque citadel

The area of the fortified complex used by the Bohemian princes and kings has changed substantially since the Early Middle Ages. Today it is composed of the Baroque Bastion of St Ludmila on the south side with the "Old Burgrave's House", and the bastion of St Wenceslaus on the west side. The massive Early Baroque armoury that originally stood on the north side of Vyšehrad burned down in 1927. It was built in 1654-1678, when Vyšehrad has been rebuilt to the Baroque citadel and the terrain relief has changed significantly.

Mongolia is a part of huge epicentre of ethnic processes in the large area among Southern Siberia, Sayan and Altai Mountains. Due to climatic conditions and social-economic processes the older ethnics were assimilated or pushed by the recent ones to the steppes of Eurasia and further to European corridor. History of Mongolia is so far various and confused topic as its cultures were constantly in motion but historical sources are limited or even missing. The archaeology gives us the very important and often the only source of information.
