Mentoring program for high school female students interested in technical fields. Project report

In 2012 was realized the second year of mentoring program for high school female students with an interest in studying technical university. Program was attended by 22 high school students and 14 mentors (university female students). The program involved 7 universities of Prague, Brno and Olomouc. Project report acquainted with the course of the second year of the program.

Monitoring report presents data describing the status of women in Czech research and development. Data covering years 2001 to 2011 show that the presumption that share of women among scientists will grow when there is a steady increase in the proportion of women among students of universities is wrong. The Czech Republic has 50% women among people qualified for the research profession, but there is only 25.1% women among researchers in 2011.

There have been no changes in the percentage of women researchers in the Czech Republic since 2001, which remains at 25 %. Compared to EU countries, the CR lags behind. Despite some activities that support women researchers, neither research institutions nor governmental bodies dealing with science policy apply gender mainstreaming. The publication contains statistics, gives information about current activities aimed at supporting gender equality and reflects stakeholders’ attitudes.
