X-RAY computer tomography in geotechnics
Blaheta, Radim ; Kohut, Roman ; Kolcun, Alexej ; Souček, Kamil ; Staš, Lubomír
The paper describes some experience with the X-ray CT-FEM analysis. It focuses on geocomposites arising by chemical grouting of coal substances and on using mathematical modelling of response to a load. The application potential of this new methodology is found in utilization of obtained properties for solving the stability problems by numerical modelling of geotechnical projects.
Bézier Form of S-Patches
Kolcun, Alexej
In this paper the main properties for the biquadratic case of S-patches are described. Bézier form of patches is used. It gives us the possibility to find the correlation between triangular and quadrilateral patches. Condition for smooth concatenation of biquadratic BS-patches is formulated.
Biquadratic S-Patch in Bézier form
Kolcun, Alexej
Mutual conversions between triangular and quadrilateral meshes need the same degree of both diagonal and boundary curves of quadrilateral meshes. New approach to quadrilateral patches, S-Patches, offers such possibility. The Bézier approach of Smart patches (S-Patch) in the biquadratic case is analyzed. Dependencies among the control points are derived. BS-Patches are presented. Close relation between Bézier triangles and BSPatches is found. Condition for smooth concatenation of biquadratic BS-Patches is formulated.
Solving an elasto-plastic problems by Newton-like methods
Byczanski, Petr ; Sysala, Stanislav
In this contribution, we will apply the semismooth Newton methods with and without damping to solving a one-time step problem in elesto-plasticity. First, we briefly describe the elasto-plastic model and formulate the corresponding one-time step problem in the form of the non-linear variational equation. Then we characterize the used numerical methods. Finally, we illustrate the methods on a 2D numerical example.
Mnohoúrovňové modelování geomateriálů a iterační řešiče
Blaheta, Radim ; Byczanski, Petr ; Harasim, Petr
The knowledge of microstructure in combination with properties of the constituents and mathematical modelling can be used for investigation of the properties of geomaterials at application scale. We investigate problems with both deterministic knowledge of microstructure, derived from X-ray CT scans, and stochastic one. The stochastic generation is also used for a systematic study of robustness of iterative solvers, particularly for Schwarz methods for PDE problems discretized by mixed FEM.
Our Blue Gene Experience
Jakl, Ondřej ; Starý, Jiří
The paper describes our precious short-time opportunity to make some hands-on experience with the Bulgarian IBM Blue Gene/P system, where we tested the parallel scalability of our domain decomposition finite element solver on a greater number of processors and completed experiments with microstructure modelling of geocomposite materials. The tests showed that due to its relatively low computation/communication performance ratio this specific architecture may need optimizations of parallel codes to take advantage of its performance potential.
