Sestrojení experimentů z kvantové mechaniky
ŠTĚPÁNEK, Jan
The aim of this master thesis is to prepare two laboratory experiments of Quantum mechanics (Proof of the Existence of Photons and Single-Photon Interference). The theoretical part summarizes concepts necessary to understand and explain behaviour observed in experiments. Other part briefly describes computing background, which was adjusted for the purpose of this work (FPGA card to Coincidental Computing Unit (CCU), description of LabView VI). Part of this thesis is to prepare and align optical paths of these experiments, perform demonstration, prepare manual for students to laboratory training and provide technical support for tutors (aligning hints and trouble-shooting section).
The media coverage of the Gulf War in contemporary news
Štěpánek, Jan ; Horký, Petr (advisor) ; Chrenčík, Roman (referee)
The thesis will deal with the 1991 Gulf War conflict, the reason for the occurrence of this series of events, the consequences caused, and above all the course of this power struggle from the point of view of the media environment. The core of the thesis will be an analysis of the domestic and foreign press during the conflict. This analysis will also compare the change in the attitude of the media and also the attitude of the military towards the media. This approach will be compared to previous conflicts, which include the Vietnam War, and will shed light on the possible changes that have occurred over time. The thesis will aim to introduce the reader to the conflict itself, presenting a comprehensive view of the selected contemporary press, focusing on Czech and American sources. The periodicals analyzed will be Red Law and The Washington Post from the period January 17, 1991 - February 28, 1991.

Recognition of numerals in Czech texts
Bureš, Jan ; Hlaváčová, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Jan (referee)
Purpose of this work is to create a tool capable of recognizing cardinal numerals in Czech text, both written with the use of digits and written with the use of words. Emphasis is placed on recognizing numerals written with words and their correct combining. Not only grammatically correct, but also other expressions and their combinations, that are quite frequent in the use of the language, were taken into account. Output is a numeric value of recognized numeral, and a set of possible morphological tags for each numeral. The program performs its own lexical and grammatical analysis based on a set of given numeral forms and rules.
Mapping the Prague Dependency Treebank Annotation Scheme onto Robust Minimal Recursion Semantics
Jakob, Max ; Lopatková, Markéta (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Jan (referee)
This thesis investigates the correspondence between two semantic formalisms, namely the tectogrammatical layer of the Prague Dependency Treebank 2.0 (PDT) and Robust Minimal Recursion Semantics (RMRS). It is a rst attempt to relate the dependency based annotation scheme of PDT to a compositional semantics approach like RMRS. An iterative mapping algorithm that converts PDT trees into RMRS structures is developed that associates RMRSs to each node in the dependency tree. Therefore, composition rules are formulated and the complex relation between dependency in PDT and semantic heads in RMRS is analyzed in detail. It turns out that structure and dependencies, morphological categories and some coreferences can be preserved in the target structures. Furthermore, valency and free modi cations are distinguished using the valency dictionary of PDT as an additional resource. The evaluation result of 81% recall shows that systematically correct underspeci ed target structures can be obtained by a rule-based mapping approach, which is an indicator that RMRS is capable of representing Czech data. This nding is novel as Czech, with its free word order and rich morphology, is typologically di erent from language that used RMRS thus far.
The most frequent techniques classified on international competitions.
Vaněk, Jiří ; Štěpánek, Jan (advisor) ; Brož, Josef (referee)
Titul: The most frequent techniques classified on points on intemational competitions Aim of thesis: Determine the most frequent techniques classified on points on intemational competitions. Selection of three the most frequent techniques, description and taking pictures oftheir fighting variations. Method: Analysis oftechnique realised by process of observation, interview, illustrative and documentary records. Result: The most frequent techniques classified on points are kata-guruma(22%), te- guruma(1 5,2%} a kosiki-taoshi(14,5%). 3
Semantic representation of ellipsis
Mikulová, Marie ; Panevová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Karlík, Petr (referee) ; Štěpánek, Jan (referee)
This dissertation answers the question what is and what is not ellipsis and specifies criteria for identification of elliptical sentences. It reports on an analysis of types of ellipsis from the point of view of semantic (semantico-syntactic) representation of sentences. It does not deal with conditions and causes of the constitution of elliptical positions in sentences (when and why is it possible to omit something in a sentence) but it focuses exclusively on the identification of elliptical positions (if there is something omitted and what) and on their semantic representation, specifically on their representation on the tectogrammatical level of the Prague Dependency Treebanks. In this dissertation, the dependency approach (used in the Prague Dependency Treebanks) is also compared with the generative approach (used in the Penn Treebank). It is possible to utilize this comparison in the (automatic) conversion from constituency trees to dependency trees.
