Evaluation of Regional Self-governments - June 2012

June's survey of CVVM paid attention to how people evaluate the activity of regional self-governments. Questions focused on whether the citizens are satisfied with the activity of Regional Councils during the last electoral period, whether they feel to be informed sufficiently about what is happening in the region and what is their opinion on the way the regional self-government has been dealing with issues in different areas of public life.
Trade Unions and Their Role in the Society - May 2012

May's survey of CVVM covered the topic of trade unions. Questions concerned the opinion on the role of trade unions in the society and the acceptability of means that trade unions may use to influence social processes. At the same time, CVVM also surveyed how the real impact of trade unions is perceived and what is the level of trust to trade unions.
Usefulness of the European Integration and of the Unification of Regulations in Different Areas

As a part of its April survey, CVVM asked a battery of questions concerning the usefulness or harmfulness of the European integration in the areas of industry, politics, culture, defence and ecology. New battery of questions regarding the usefulness or harmfulness of the unification of regulations in different areas has also been included into the survey. On the whole, Czechs consider the European integration and the unification of regulations to be useful, but there are considerable differences with respect to the particular areas of integration and unification.
Trust in the institutions of the EU and in the OSN and the NATO

April survey of CVVM asked questions concerning the trust of people in the institutions of the European Union. Besides the trust in the EU as a whole, citizens' trust in the European commission, the European Parliament, the chairman of the European Council (president of the EU) and the representative for the joint foreign policy (ministry of foreign affairs) have been included into the survey. Two questions also referred to the trust of people in the North Atlantic Alliance and the United Nations Organisation. Main finding of the survey is that the trust in all monitored institutions fell down in comparison with last year.
Opinion on widespreadness and level of corruption among Czech public officials and institutions

In March 2012, CVVM asked questions concerning the topic of corruption. Questions in the survey regarded the opinion on how widespread is taking of bribes among Czech public officials and the opinion on the level of corruption in different institutions and areas of public life. Obtained values are compared with results measured in previous years.
Opinion on the indebtment of citizens and the state

In February 2012, CVVM asked questions concerning the topic of indebtment. We surveyed the opinion on the level of indebtment among the Czech citizens and on the level of indebtment of the Czech state. With regard to these two fields of indebtment, we also asked questions about how serious a problem the current level of indebtment poses to the Czech people.
Citizens on the political system in the Czech Republic - February 2012

In its February survey, CVVM focused on opinions towards the political system in the Czech Republic. Questions in the survey concerned the level of satisfaction with democracy, the evaluation of democracy as a form of government, respect to human rights, coequality and fairness in treating people and the evaluation of the politic system development since 1989. Current data are compared with the data on the same topic collected in previous surveys.
Opinion on the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and its financial subvention

January survey of CVVM included questions referring to the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Questions concerned trust of people towards this institution, their awareness of its function, their opinion on its and on quality of the research conducted in the Academy in both national and world-wide context. Question regarding the opinion on financial subvention of the institution from the national budget was part of the survey too. Current data are compared with the data on the same topic collected in the survey in 2009.
Citizens on the constitutional competencies of president

According to the January survey of CVVM, 58 % of the Czech public agree with the current range of presidential competencies, 20 % would welcome their enlargement, 17 % would narrow them down. CVVM also asked questions about several particular presidential competencies such as granting of amnesty, stopping a lawsuit, dismissing the Chamber of Deputies and furthermore about the competence of president to refuse the law passed by the parliament and about his or her role in appointing the board of the Czech National Bank and in appointing the judges of the Constitutional Court.
Attitudes of citizens to the presidential office

According to the January survey of CVVM, 61 % of the Czech public prefer president to be elected by all voters, 16 % agree with the current system, where the presidential election is made by the parliament, 13 % would welcome the possibility to let a broader assembly of electors to decide about the head of the state. January survey of CVVM also asked questions about personal profile of suitable presidential candidate, its relations to the government and government appointment, about the position of president in the foreign policy and about the questions president should pay attention in his or her office.
