Hrdinová, Lenka ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Čechura, Jaroslav (referee)
The Bachelor thesis 'Francis Ferdinand d'Este and Konopiště' deals with the transformation of Konopiste Castle in Central Bohemia into a modern residence of the future emperor of Austria-Hungary. The thesis briefly describes the life of the Archduke from the Habsburg-Lorraine's dynasty and also the history of his mansion including all the important changes during the years before it was bought. The greatest attention is given to the reconstruction works during Francis Ferdinand's years - not only to the reconstruction works that were already implemented, but also to those that had been planned, but which could never have been realised because of the assassination in Sarajevo and the outbreak of World War I.The faith of Francis Ferdinand's children and the destiny of the castle in the 20th century are briefly mentioned in the conclusion.
Witch trials in North Moravia
Krištofová, Tereza ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
In the territory of the current Czech Republic, the first written mention of the negative perception of magic appeared as early as in the 11th century, but it was only in the 14th century when the prohibitions to practice magic got more precise contours. Legally, the offense of witchcraft in Municipal and Capital Crime Codes only was defined in the 16th and the 17th century. It was at the turn of these centuries when we saw increase in processes with persons accused of abusing spells. However, in most prosecutions of that time, the abuses of megic only were secondary charges and the perpetrators were condemned, only occurred in the Czech Kingdom rarely. Only the persecution of witches in some of the Silesian principalities and in northern Moravia during the 17th century got out these trends. In northern Moravia, the largest witch trials took place in the years 1679 - 1696 in the Velké Losiny estate and in the town of Šumperk, where 81 alleged sorcerers and witches were killed. Like in many other cases, also here the outbreak of local witch trials was inspired by a stolen host. Court proceedings took place under the direction of Judge Heinrich Franz Boblig of Edelstadt, who for many years gained the trust of the local nobility. Although the legislation continued to contain criminal offense against witchcraft...

The Alchemy like the Gate to Luck
Erös, Roman ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
Synopsis The aim of this Bachelor thesis is not rendered and reveal the alchymist procedures, but rather to know the thinking of the alchemists and their destinies, because not all of them were con artists who would like to share the fraudulent ways and so enrich at the expense of its surroundings. A few of them not only made money, but even borrowed, and eventually ended up in prison. Most of them really believe in their dreams of actinide transmutation and extending the life and the other on the contrary, have ceased to believe in the miracle of riches by using the transmutation and rather started to think about whether something like that is possible and then go back to the top. And it was actually the beginning of the inquiry and that of the beginning of a new scientific discipline and chemistry. Of course, that together with the effort of the alchemists of actinide transmutation of metals, and search for the stone is associated and the destinies of famous players of this science and it, from the founder of the Herma Trismegistose to the present, because the dream of the alchemists is not foreign or today's man.
Pavel Michna of Vacínov
Bouček, Jan ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
There are only a few works available dealing with the Czech Early New Times and not mentioning the name of Pavel Michna z Vacínova. The man who succeeded in overcoming barriers of his middle class origin and making himself an indispensable advisor to top representatives of the Czech Kingdom and even Emperor Ferdinand II and to manage elevation to Imperial Earldom towards the end of his life. Michna, a butcher's son from Budyně nad Ohří, became thanks to patronage of the High Chancellor of the Czech Kingdom Zdeněk Vojtěch Popel z Lobkowicz in the early part of the 17th century the Czech Kingdom Court Office Secretary and reinforced a group of catholic militants who gradually started to exploit the Czech Kingdom Court Office for the benefit of their own influence at the expense of Protestant majority. Even though Michna had signed the Imperial Charter of Rudolf II that guaranteed all subjects in the Kingdom freedom of worship, he alone prosecuted Protestants during his office period in the Czech Kingdom Court Office and was aiming to restrict their rights. The hate of Protestants against Michna culminated on May 23, 1618, when he should have been one of the victims of the Defenestration of Prague. He had learned of plans of the plotters on time and rescued himself fleeing to Vienna to the Imperial...
The Activities of the Spanish Delegates in Prague during the Pre- White Mountain Period in the Light of the Diplomatic Correspondence
Nedvědová, Markéta ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the activities of the Spanish delegates, who were sent to Prague in oder to enforce political concerns of the Counter - Reformation. It is divided into eight parts. The first parts deals with the history of the Czech - Spanish relations until the Pre - White Mountain period. The next chapters are dedicated to the Spanish delegates (to Chantonnay, Monteagudo, Borja, San Clemente, Zúñiga and Oñate) and the chosen events between years 1564 and 1617. The purpose of the thesis was to find out, which were the concrete delegates'acts related with the Counter - Reformation policy, further how they perceived the important events and whether their efforts were successful. It was necessary to study the delegates' extensive correspondence, they sent from Prague to Madrid. This diplomatic correspondence is preserved in the Spanish archives in Simancas. For the purpose of Bohemian studies it was transcripted by the copyists, who worked mainly for professor Vlastimil Kybal at the beginning of 20th century. These transcriptions, that I have studied, are preserved in The National Archives in Prague.
Non-Catholics in the Domain of Trebic in the 17th and the 18th Centuries
Honč, Petr ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor)
This research is primarily focused on the non-Catholic population in the domain of Trebic in the 17th and 18th centuries. A brief summary of the previous religious development in the above mentioned domain during the Reformation period and Thirty Years' War enables us to prove, that falling apart of the confessional identity had already been registered before the beginning of systematic recatholisation. Until then, the domain of Trebic had been a favourite refuge for the refugees from Bohemia. The description of the process of recatholisation in the town of Třebíč and villages of its domain is one of the key topics of this research. Another focus of this work is to demonstrate the contribution of the parish network in the frame of the Třebic's deanship, which was a key success factor for the recatholisation process. A second main topic, and a core issue of this work, is the situation in the domain after the October 1781, when Joseph II. put into effect the Edict of Tolerance. The emphasis is put on the adhesion of non-Catholics to one of the Protestant confessions tolerated by the State and on the challenges emerged as a follow-up. A rupture between Protestants regarding the choice between the Augsburg and Helvetic Confession almost ended hopes for their own congregation.

Šimek, Jan ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Pánek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Matlas, Pavel (referee)
THESIS ABSTRACT PhDr. Jan Šimek Criminality in Early Modern Bohemia. The Case of Říčany (1667-1757) This work is a contribution to understanding of criminality in Bohemia in early modern period, which is conceived as a part of social history by the Czech historiography of the last decades. The main source comprises six volumes of court manuals that originated from the activities of the court for capital crimes in a serf town of Říčany u Prahy, and that cover time span of 1667-1757 and consist of 289 records of criminal trials. If we consider the structure of criminality analyzed by the established methodological schemes, the torts of property prevail unequivocally (37%), a considerable part is made up by the honour disputes (26%), and a lesser part is formed by offences against life and health (12%) and offences against morality (8%). Apart from the quantitative processing of the sources the attention is paid also to the characteristic features of the individual offences and the respective culprits in the perspective of historical anthropology. The very functioning of the court in Říčany in relation to the patrimonial administration, which was very tight till the beginning of the 18th century is analysed, too. A boundary marker is the court reform of Josef I. in 1707 - from that time the determinant role of...
Ordinary Life in the Royal Town Louny at the End of the 16th Century
Paterová, Petra ; Čechura, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Roedl, Bohumír (referee)
The history of everyday life is an interesting historical branch, which brings the researcher a lot of information about family, work, entertainment, problems and other things that surround everyone and every day. In the same way, these things have influenced lives of our ancestors. The fascination with ordinary lives of early modern history is actually a desire to get to know oneself. Despite the fact that the outlook on everyday things may have changed during the centuries, what has not changed were the topics. The libri testimoniorum are a more than suitable source of information for everyday life research. Owing to the testimonies of the witnesses of the particular trials, the books unwittingly reveal many details about the life of early modern towns. Studies of these books bring motivation for researching not only the everyday history, but also culture and mentality history. Last but not least, it is important to mention research into criminality of early modern towns.
