Tidal heating in icy bodies of the Solar System
Dvořáková, Nela ; Čadek, Ondřej (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis concerns with icy moons and the computation of the heat production which is generated by the effect of tidal forces. The text primarily focuses on the behaviour of viscosity in the ice shell for variable ice shell thickness. Viscosity decreases exponentially as the temperature of ice increases. We also study the viscosity and heat dependence on the size of an ice grain in range of 10−5 m - 10−1 m and the amount of stress in range of 103 Pa - 107 Pa. Computation was realized using a provided program and the results of all models are represented in form of a heat map and further studied. Primarily we discuss the heat balance of the moon Europa and Enceladus. 1
Social Farming: Innovation for Social Work
Hudcová, Eliška ; Šťastná, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis Social agriculture: innovation for social work presents social farming as a tool to promote and develop physically and socially disadvantaged persons which is based on agricultural activities. The purpose of social farming is to create within farms or through agricultural activities conditions that enable the integration of persons with special needs into mainstream society while ensuring improvement in their physical and mental condition and promoting the quality of their social relationships. The thesis describes the concept of social farming, defines its users and its providers. It deals with its history and status in some European countries and focuses in more detailed way on the current state of social farming in the Czech Republic. The author confirms its quality and limitations by introducing foreign research studies in this area, and in her own research on the two social farms in the Czech Republic. The entire text covers as well themes of social integration, development of rural communities, the social economy and multifunctional agriculture. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Thermal Convection in Terrestrial Planetary Mantles
Benešová, Nina ; Čížková, Hana (advisor) ; Hejda, Pavel (referee) ; Šrámek, Ondřej (referee)
In this thesis, we present results of a numerical modelling study focused on the thermal evolution of the Earth and terrestrial planets. We focus particularly on two problems: I) constraining the internal structure of Venus and Mercury using their geoid and surface topography data and II) evaluating the effects of a rhe- ologically distinct post-perovskite on the secular cooling of the Earth. In part I, we performed simulations in a broad group of models of the Venusian man- tle, characterised by different rheological descriptions, and we compared spectra of their geoid and their surface topography with the observed quantities. Our analysis suggested that the geoid and the surface topography of Venus are con- sistent with a radially symmetric viscosity model with a strong 200 km thick lithosphere, without an asthenosphere and with a gradual viscosity increase in the underlying mantle. In the case of Mercury, none of our models was able to predict observed data, thus suggesting other than a dynamic origin of observed geoid and topography. In part II, we investigated style of Earth's mantle con- vection and its long-term evolution in the models that take into account a weak post-perovskite. We conclude that the presence of the weak post-perovskite en- hances the core cooling. This effect is comparable in...
Teleseismic earthquake occurrence and subduction-induced volcanic activity along island arcs
Kuna, Václav ; Špičák, Aleš (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
This diploma thesis studies seismo-volcanic interactions at convergent plate margins. Its aim is to establish a statistical apparatus appropriate for analyzing seismicity patterns be- neath volcanoes. At the beginning, the thesis summarizes basic concepts of volcanism at convergent plate margins and basic seismological issues. The thesis takes advantage of so called EHB catalogue of hypocentral determinations based on data of the International Seimological Center. The analysis of combined space-time correlation dimension of the EHB catalogue established limits for a definition of seismic sequences related to co-seismic as well as post-seismic stress transfer mechanisms. The analysis of b-value of the Guten- berg-Richter law was carried out to estimate degree of heterogeneity of rock environment. Seismicity pattern beneath subduction-related volcanoes at 14 island arcs was studied by means of seismic sequence density analysis and the b-value analysis. The thesis concentrat- ed on submarine portions of the volcanic arcs, the magmatic/volcanic activity of which is poorly understood. We constrained areas with specific seismicity patterns and distinct sea- floor morphology in order to find potential volcanic structures. Five areas with specific seismicity pattern and pronounced morphological structure...
The Support of family carers ( experience from Diaconia ECCB courses - Take care at home)
Lengálová, Michaela ; Janečková, Hana (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
Caring for a loved one is nothing new in our contemporary society. We deal with the topics of caring in the family, the motivation of such a decision, the positives or negatives of this choice. Why do more and more people choose to care for a loved one "at home"? What is the state support provided to family carers and which social policy instruments does the state use? The aim of the Diakonie ČCE-Care at Home project is to comprehensively support lay family caregivers who take care of their loved ones, not only the elderly, people with disabilities, children with disabilities, but also cancer patients. Through information, counseling and educational activities, we provide family caregivers with the psycho-social and spiritual support they need when caring for their loved ones. Not only do the people receiving care in the home environment have their own needs, but so do family caregivers, whose way of saturating their needs changes the moment they begin caregiving. In general, we are concerned with the needs and their fulfilment of the patients themselves, i.e. those who are dependent on care. But we must not neglect family caregivers, since their physical and mental well-being is a prerequisite for being able to care for their loved ones because they have a very difficult task ahead of them, which...
Reminiscence in pastoral care: the use of memories and recollection in the pastoral care of the elderly
Fojtů, Daniela ; Janečková, Hana (advisor) ; Čížková, Hana (referee)
This Master's thesis focuses on the presence and use of remembrance in the context of pastoral care for the elderly within the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. The aim of this thesis is to explore various ways, in what specific situations, reminiscence is present and used in the context of pastoral care as well as to identify specific reminiscence tools that are utilized in the process of pastoral care for the elderly. This thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part focuses on explaining the theoretical bases for this thesis by focusing on two main topics: pastoral care for the elderly and reminiscence work, and outlines ways in which both areas are connected. The second part is focused on qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with pastors. This investigation aims to arrive at an answer to the primary reseach question about the role of reminiscence within pastoral care for the elderly.
Effects of crustal rheology on stresses generated in subducting lithosphere
Pokorný, Jakub ; Čížková, Hana (advisor)
In this thesis we present the results of the numerical models of lithospheric subduction focused on the influence of rheological properties of the crust. We use a two-dimensional Cartesian model with non-linear rheology, including the major phase transitions at the depths of 410 km and 660 km. The separation of the subducting and overriding plates is facilitated by a low-viscosity crust, prescribed on the top of the subducting plate. Previous studies have shown that the mechanical properties of this crust significantly influence the deformation of the subducted plate in the transition zone. Here we focus 1) on a detailed analysis of the combined effects of the crustal thickness and viscosity on the slab deformation and its ability to penetrate to the lower mantle and 2) the implementation of the non-linear crustal rheology and testing the influence of its parameters. In the case of models with constant viscosity we show that the increase of the crustal thickness and/or the decrease of its viscosity makes it easier for the subducting plate to move and therefore leads to increasing the subduction velocity and rollback. If the ratio between the crustal viscosity and its thickness à · 3:3 č 1016 à · 3:3 č 1016 Pa s m-1 the slab stagnates above the boundary at the depth of 660 km. For higher ratio ÃÃ...
