Artificial Fertilisation, Genetics, Handicapped Children

How informed are Catholics about assisted reproduction Infertility is on the increase and alongside this problem thre has been a growth in the number of clinics offering assisted reproduction mainly in the developed world. More and more people who are unable to give birth naturally are deciding on artificial insemination. The goal of this thesis was to find out the standing of the Catholic people with regards to this phenomenon, how much they are aware of it, what is the source of their knowledge and how much they agree with the church's teaching. The first part introduces the techniques of reproductive medicine and, in particular, their negative circumstances. The following part describes the research whose focus was groups of Catholics in Prague, outside Prague and also students at theological colleges. Its results to a large extent answer the questions that the author asks herself in the introduction. KEYWORDS: Assisted Reproduction, Artificial Insemination, Catholics, Embryo, Infertility.

Šnýdlová, Alena ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Rethmann, Albert-Peter (referee)
OF THESIS ŠNÝDLOVÁ Alena Dying, death, euthenasia. Our age has brought advances in medicine resulting in extended human life expectancy. This process, however, has forgotten that a natural part of human existence is dying and death. Such a taboo in society means that people are not usually prepared for it. It is therefore hard to die and dificult to live with the certanty of death in its last weeks and days. The process of dying and its circumstances is briefly described to convince readers that one human can help another in difficult life situations and it is better to be prepared for this. This thesis also deals with the differing views of christians and atheists. These views often distinguish the approach to death of the attendant professionals. T.G. Masaryk' s view of the function of religion in the civil society
Horák, Karel ; Pelc, Bogdan (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
ANGLICKÁ ANOTACE DIPLOMA THESIS TITLE: THE OPINION OF TOMÁŠ GARRIGUE MASARYK ON THE FUNCTION OF RELIGION IN THE CIVIL SOCIETY AUTHOR: Karel HORÁK SUPERVISOR: Bogdan PELC ANNOTATION: It is to be stated that the current postmodern Czech society does not pay much attention to the heritage of the first President of the Czechoslovak Republic, Prof. Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, nor it takes much efforts to understand. Moreover, the rising generation has hardly any cognizance, what was the importance of the personality of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk for our state and for the Czech society. The secularized Czech civil society of the beginning of the 21st century perceives the heritage, left by one of the most important personalities of the Czech, European and world history in his life and works, with certain constraints. The main objective of this thesis is to give a transparent survey of Masaryk's views on the function of religion in a civil society, proceeding from the assumption of a very quest, based on the existing and actual facts that are known about Masaryk's life and work. In the first section, the life story of Prof. Masaryk is described. It is not, however, a pure listing of biographical data. This section aims at "clarifying and illuminating" that nebulous cloud, shrouding the person of T.G.M. for present-day...

Ferenčiková, Daniela ; Rethmann, Albert-Peter (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
Ethical questions in the discussion about the euthanasia A birth, a life and a death - all these phenomena present an universal and unnecassary experience of mankind and each individual. Death, then an individual extinction of organism afflicts the human not only in a biological area, but also in a psychological, social and spiritual one. It was self-evident in the past that all the people died at home among their relatives. Nowadays this image has changed. Most of the people die in the hospitals or in the mental institutions. Some people has changed also the understanding of meaning of an incurable illness and their attitude to the suffering and pain. There are people who offer the euthanasia for the incurably ill and their relatives as a solution of their heavy suffering. Nowadays the euthanasia serves as a possibility to end an incurable illness, moreover, it's a part of legislation in some countries where is allowed by law. The aim of this thesis is exactly to focus on the ethical questions in the connection within the discussion about the euthanasia. It is considered as a general truth that a human life is a gift from the God because man is created by the God and the God's image is written in them. Therefore, man has a great dignity. They possess the reason, free will and immortal soul,...
Social mission of the church and program documents of the European Union
Charousová, Hana ; Ovečka, Libor (advisor) ; Ryšková, Mireia (referee)
Masters thesis SOCIAL MISSION OF THE CHURCH AND PROGRAMMING DOCUMENTS OF THE EUROPEAN UNION Hana Charousová Resumé The contemporary world is being led towards total globalization, material development, economic prosperity and technocratic society. The aim of this Masters thesis is to point out that the contemporary world challenges people to maintain human values, support moral and spiritual life and humankind generally. My work focuses on the situation of the Catholic Church and other churches in our society, most of all on their social mission, which comes out of Christian teaching. I want to demonstrate that these churches can and should have a position of value in contemporary, modern, pluralistic society. At the same time, through this thesis, I would like to inspire churches to be more involved in practical aspects of society, especially in social problem-solving. To do this, however, churches need financial backing. For that reason, this thesis will provide practical suggestions for obtaining financial support, for example from European Structural Funds, especially the European Social Fund. TO LOVE LIFE IS A TRUE DIVINE SERVICE - Analysis of selected moral-theological treatises from the period of Joseph II
Lorman, Jaroslav ; Rethmann, Albert-Peter (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
Loving Life Is the True Divine Service - Analysis of Selected Morally Theological Treatises from the Period of Joseph II Jaroslav Lorman The work is focused on morally theological treatises from the period of Joseph II (1780-1790). From the point of view of Christian ethics, this period can be seen as the culmination of its gradual achievement of independence of dogmatic theology happening since the sixteenth century. The analysis is mainly based on three works: Augustin Zippe, Anleitung zur christlichen Sittenlehre der Vernunft und der Offenbarung (Prague 1778) and Von der moralischen Bildung angehender Geistlichen in Generalseminario zu Prag (Prague 1784) and Ignaz Fabiani, Grundzüge der kristlichen Sittenlehre (Vienna 1789). The main goal was to verify the existence of so called Catholic Enlightenment in the Czech environment. If it were shown that the Enlightenment authors, in our case the authors from the Joseph II period, did not act against the Church and religion and in fact they even identified with it, this would be an important argument against the old cliché that the fundamental elements of the Age of Enlightenment are antireligiosness and anticlericalism. We could even open another field of study - to what extent the Czech environment was influenced by that of German. The already...
