Prayer in the parables in the Gospel of Luke
Černá, Zuzana ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
The Master's thesis Prayer in the Luke's Parables first deals with the definition of the parable itself: how the modern narratology understands it, how was this literary form used in the Old Testament and in the New Testament connotations. Further, it discusses the Gospel of Luke as a separate literary unit with an editorial plan regarding especially parables, and also describes the circumstances of its inception, the recipients, contemporary realities, etc. The next part outlines the basic teachings on prayer in the Church Documents. Then the thesis separately analyses both the grammar and the interpretation of three particularly important Luke's parables concerning prayer (L 11,513; L 18,18; 18, L 18,914). Their common contribution to Jesus' teachings on prayer is summarized in the conclusion.
Peter, the Apostle, the Believer and of Little Faith, in Response to Jesus' Epiphany on the Sea
Hovorka, Petr ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Scarano, Angelo (referee)
Résumé Peter, the Apostle, both believer and of little faith in answer to Jesus' epiphany on the sea By Petr Hovorka This thesis is concerned with the passage of the Gospel according to Matthew (14, 22-36), which reveals Jesus' identity from two points of view. The miraculous event of Jesus "walk on the waves" presents Jesus as the Son of God with cosmic power over the created world, who, as the Father himself, can proclaim about himself: "I am". The following description summarizes Jesus power over illness and all evil and shows his healing power over everything, which endangers man in enjoying the fullness of life and happiness. The textual connection with the previous event of the multiplication of bread enables us to see the revelation of Jesus as the "new Moses", who first offers bread to his people (cf. Ex 16,4-15) and next he crosses the see (cf. Ex 14,15-22). The summary report about his healing activity resembles many others, which represent changeovers to following pericopes of Jesus' acts. Through reports as these, comparable to a chorus passage, the evangelist intends to remind the reader Jesus' basic gospelizing mission, which brings full salvation to mankind, in both body and soul. Further extensions of the text are offered by individual biblical experts, both by enlistment into various...

The topic of this work is expressed by its title: The View of the Authorship of the Pentateuch in the Course of History. The Significance of Archeological Excavations in Galilee for the Interpretation of the Gospels
Kučera, Peter ; Brož, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Hřebík, Josef (referee)
RESUME The Significance of the Archaeological Excavations in Galilee for the Interpretation of the Gospels. During the latter half of the last century a number of excavations have been conducted throughout the Holy Land. Out of all the sites excavated one stands out in particular and that is Capharnaum which Matthew did not hesitate to call Jesus's "own town". The large number of Gospel references to Capharnaum, when taking into account the proverbial conciseness of the Gospels, is striking and it simply underlines the importance it had in Jesus's public ministry. This settlement has actually been extensively excavated and several remnants from the first century A.D. have been unearthed. Among the most significant are the house of St. Peter and the synagogue from the Early Roman period, however, they are not the only ones meriting attention. This thesis is probably the first work attempting to furnish the reader with a complete description of the archaeological findings that are dated to the first century A.D. Moreover, it contains what is probably the most complete presentation of the extra-biblical references to Capharnaum to date. The aim of this thesis is to present and scrutinize these finds comparatively with both the biblical and extra-biblical sources as well as with finds from other contemporaneous...

The Abstract In her work the author deals with Christian marriage whose source and ideal is Christ in his relation to the Church, as it is presented in the paraenetical text of Eph 5:21-33. After the circumstances of the origin of the Letter has been presented, the author analyzes the paraenesis on the marriage itself applying the Historical and Literary Criticism, further she emphasizes its message and in this way points to the permanent relevance of the studied biblical text. This basic source is thereafter used as the point of departure for reflections on different fields as the theological anthropology, the sacramental theology and moral theology, and finds in them the affirmation of dignity and uniqueness of the marital bond and the inspiration for the fruitful life in marriage. Finally the consequences of the text for the spiritual theology are studied, for in the life of Christian spouses the spiritual life plays important role. The author emphasizes also the contribution of the biblical exegesis for development of theological research and points to the importance of interconnection of singular theological disciplines for the integrated vision of the studied reality.
The Image of Woman in the Old and New Testaments
Vlnas, Jan ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
he diploma thesis called "P r e s e n t a t i o n o f F e m a l e C h a r a c t e r s i n t he O l d a n d N e w T e s t a m e n t s " endeavours to examine the depiction of female characters in the texts of the Old and New Testaments. The deuterocanonical books and addictions to Esther and Daniel are taken into account too. A list of the female characters and the interpretation of their names proves not only that there are many of them but also their importance. The classification suggested by this thesis is based on women's role in the story of our salvation and representative examples of these characters show their typical features as well as the personal ones. The characters are further described by means of the theological and historical context. Conclusions of these analyses are confronted with the commonly shared views and stereotypes in particular because of their claim that the Bible strongly promotes the patriarchal life concept. The author has concluded that the female characters in the Bible are much more important than people commonly think. Biblical authors naturally shared the patriarchal view of the world, in spite of it we can assume that they didn't belittle the importance of women. T
Disciples in the Gospel of St. Luke
Cílková, Eva ; Scarano, Angelo (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The Diploma thesis "The disciples in Gospel of Luke" deals with the formation of disciples in the Gospel of Luke which took place during their collective journey with Jesus until his death and resurrection. The work contains a brief historical introduction including the characteristics of the society and the human dimension of the disciples in contrast to their internal changes - their reversal within meeting Jesus, calling and following. The line follows the election of the Twelve and the subsequent preferences of some of the disciples. The work reflects the consideration of Jesus` pedagogy and teaching the disciples, mainly from the theological dimension. The disciples appear as the eyewitnesses of Jesus` actions. Jesus proclaimed the Kingdom of God and also announced the conditions of the possible entry to this kingdom. The role of women in Jesus` community is mentioned in the connection with their disciples` features and the importance of their testimony by Jesus` tomb as well. The tension and failure of Jesus` disciples during his final events in Jerusalem were converted during the meeting with resurrected Jesus in the community. Jesus entrusted his disciples with the apostolic mission and continued in their formation. The work provides insight into the disciples who seemed to be listeners and...

Pilgrimages to Jerusalem in the Old Testamet
Pauli, Michal ; Hřebík, Josef (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
ANOTATION Title: Pilgrimages to Jerusalem in the Old Testament The aim of this thesis is to show the extent to which the Old Testament pilgrimages issue - as a specific religious phenomenon - is related to the identity, historic formation, and eschatological targeting by the chosen people of Israel at the Lord, their God. After an introductory chapter, which covers the basic contextual foundations of the issue (anthropology, human movement, the history of the religious community, the anakefaleiósis of its "founder" and the myth that the objectives of the entire human race are in perfect harmony), the author moves on to discuss to the legal standards and regulations which applied on the pilgrimages, as codified in the Pentateuch. In this second chapter the author focuses mainly on the way in which the celebration of pilgrimage holidays helped build the identity of God's people in diverse environments, times and circumstances, and the development of the liturgy of the three major pilgrimages that culminate in pre-exile Jerusalem. In the third chapter, the author focuses on the conflicts between the prophetic institution and the royal and clerical institution in the environment of the temple in Zion. He shows that the dynamics of the Lord's cult and pilgrimage celebration are threatened by formalism if the...
