Influence of the polymer mixture composition on the properties of polysaccharide fibrous biomaterials

Proposed diploma thesis deals with the preparation and evaluation of the properties of the fibers based on the polysaccharide Gum Karaya and its mixtures with poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(vinyl pyrrolidine) and poly(ethylene oxide). The diploma thesis is divided to the theoretical, experimental and discussion part. The theoretical describes the preparation and characterization of different sized fibers. The experimental involves the preparation of fibers by electrospinning method. Obtained fibers were analysed by means of the Fourier transformed infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and gravimetrical method to evaluate the fiber swelling ratio. Electrospun fibers obtained from aqueous solution of organic acids have confirmed to be a suitable material with the sufficiently good fiber diameter and tensile strength.
