The master's thesis deals with the impact of charging of electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems on photovoltaic hosting capacity of low voltage distribution networks. A Monte Carlo-based simulation is used to analyze predominantly rural, intermediate and predominantly urban regions facing different penetrations of electric vehicles utilizing uncontrolled and controlled charging and evaluate their impact on photovoltaic hosting capacity of Finnish residential areas. Subsequently, electric vehicles are both replaced and supplemented by residential battery energy storage systems and the impact is studied. The thesis ends with a short feasibility analysis of BESS utilization.
