Risk Analysis of Sample Preparation for Transmission Electron Microscopy
Gálíková, Markéta ; Hrabová, Kristýna (oponent) ; Balgová, Zuzana (vedoucí práce)
This thesis presents a risk analysis of the sample preparation process for transmission electron microscopy with the aim to enhance the occupational health and safety in laboratories employed in sample preparation and analysis. The thesis focuses on identifying potential hazards, evaluating risks, and proposing effective risk mitigation strategies to mitigate or eliminate these risks. The thesis is divided into two main parts, the theoretical which provides information on different sample preparation processes and legislative requirements set by European Union and the Czech Republic, as well as the practical part where the risk analysis is conducted. The methodology of block diagrams, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis and cause-and-effect analysis were incorporated to achieve as much information about the risk-related to sample preparation processes. In addition, the measures were proposed in order to mitigate or possibly eliminate potential risks observed. Some of the proposed risk mitigation measures encompass the use of personal protective equipment, ergonomic considerations, equipment revisions, and guidelines for handling chemical substances. The risk analysis results demonstrate a significant reduction in risk levels, as illustrated by the decrease in the risk priority number, once the proposed measures are implemented. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating risk analysis into the sample preparation process to create a safer working environment.
