Uig - local community
Školová, Markéta ; Pargač, Jan (referee) ; Šatava, Leoš (advisor)
Gaelic language revival is the focus of many linguists and anthropologists. There are many generalisations written about this subject. This study is primarily based on a case study of the Uig community on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. With the use of historical and current descriptions of the community, problems are outlined associated with the Gaelic language in this mainly Gaelic speaking community. Despite the high number of recorded Gaelic speakers in Uig (67%, Census 2001), I consider this not a true reflection of the number of people who can use Gaelic daily. There are still many families who underestimate and therefore undermine the status of their language, despite the official support of Gaelic Education by the Scottish Government. Interestingly, there is an evident passivity of parents to enrol their children into Gaelic-medium units at the Uig Primary School yet, many parents do consider Gaelic as part of their cultural heritage. In Uig, a rural area, the number of higher educated inhabitants is minimal. Very lately, a lack of housing, has appeared as a problem and the local Community Council must deal with it. Many of the people questioned in this study are witnessing the language shift towards English in their own families. There seems to be some progress towards a reversing language...

Senior´s Subjectively Perceived Quality of Life in Mikulov
ŠRÁMKOVÁ, Klára
The aim of this thesis is the quality of life subjectively felt by senior citizens living in the town Mikulov. For the elderly, a high-quality life is very important. It is usually a consequence of how the senior citizens are prepared for their own old age. The level of self-sufficiency and autonomy is equally crucial, as well as the extent of changes connected to ageing. Presence of an illness that limits the senior citizen also plays an important role. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first one is theoretical and deals with the above mentioned quality of life and factors that might influence it. Terms such as old age and ageing are defined in this part and also the periodization of old age and categorization of senior citizens are given. This part also describes the changes connected with ageing. The practical part of the thesis aims to determine the impact of different lifestyle on the quality of life and in general the factors influencing it. The method used is SEIQoL. This method uses direct answers of respondents, who give themselves five life goals (34). The necessary data was received on the bases of an additional method ? the semi-structured interview, which enabled to profoundly treat the different goals and to get to know the respondents better (understand their values). The data were then analysed using the pattern (gestalt) recognition method. The nature of this method is to detect certain patterns and structures that are more general and that based on similarity or diversity (21). The respondents were chosen intentionally according to certain criteria (21). For the purposes of this research, male and female senior citizens of very various ages and with various lifestyles were chosen. More precisely, the senior citizens chosen are four women between 67 and 80 and four men between 65 and 83. According to the research, the main factors affecting the quality of life of senior citizens are health and family. Different lifestyle of respondents is apparent once regarded their social life (family structures, friendships) in a closer perspective. As for the senior citizens that do not live in their own house or apartment, the research didn?t indicate any important differences. Three (out of eight) respondents are in this living situation. They affirm to have gotten used to the current living situation and be happy about it in the present. The living situation is also connected to the financial situation of the senior citizens. In case of respondents living in their own house or apartment, the monthly payments are reduced only to the overhead costs. In case of those living in a nursing home or home for the elderly, there is also the rent. I therefore suppose that different lifestyle of the senior citizens is not that important overall. What is more important, it is the level of satisfaction of senior citizens? needs and different factors affecting the quality of life in general. Among the most important ones can be mentioned: family, health and financial security (8). The respondents also agreed on the importance of their leisure time and of the way they are spending it. The void that comes naturally after the children leave home is generally filled by some domestic animal to keep the senior citizen company. Two of the respondents equally mentioned contentedness among other factors affecting their life. On the basis of this research we can assume that senior citizens in Mikulov are generally happy and the level of their subjectively felt quality of life is high. This thesis can serve as a source of information for those who are interested in related topics. Moreover, it can be used as a bases for creating measures that would improve the life quality of senior citizens in Mikulov.

Alternative lifestyle option as being satisfied
BENDOVÁ, Kateřina
The topic of this diploma thesis is Alternative lifestyle as a form of content human existence. This thesis is focused on specification of subculture and I defined the subculture of homeless people, which as I assumed and also as my own research data showed, can demonstrate the content form of human existence. The theoretical part of this thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter constitutes a theoretical scope of this thesis where I put emphasis on social norms and theory of social deviation, which are crucial for homeless people who are demonstrating alternative lifestyle which is significantly different from the lifestyle of mainstream conformist society. Second chapter describes characteristics of homelessness. The third chapter includes procedure of help to homeless people in their life situation. There are also stated social services for homeless people. The last chapter is focused on the alternative lifestyle. I also deal with the topic of voluntary homelessness. The aim of this diploma thesis is description of aspects of lifestyle of the observed subculture of homeless people. The target group consists of 20 homeless people in age from 18 to 70 years. A method of qualitative approach was applied and a method of analysis of case studies was used for data collection. The main technique of data collection was an interview with directions which I used with 10 homeless people who were in asylum house and with 10 homeless people who were present directly at the public areas. In the context of this thesis five research questions were determined. The primary data was coded/indexed and then processed with the framework analysis according to Ritchie and Spencer. The outcomes of the research showed that the most frequent reason for the origin of homelessness is alcohol addiction. Most frequently it is related to single or divorced man and women. The daily regime of homeless people is from a greater half regular. Among the most frequent daily activities in the asylum house can be mentioned watching television, cleaning common areas of the asylum house, fixed activities and drinking coffee. The outdoor activities mostly constitute of collection of metal, cooking, shopping for food and searching the garbage bins. They usually spend winter nights in facilities of social services (doss house, asylum house), in a tent, in makeshift shanties, or in a squat. Most people spend their days with their friends or partners. People who live in public areas are more willing to make some extra money. There was three times higher experience with begging of the people who live in public areas than people who live in asylum houses. People in asylum houses usually pay for day board meals. People who live outside in public areas procure their food in supermarkets, day centres and doss houses and in garbage bins. For homeless people nicotine addiction is more frequent than alcohol addiction. They perform their personal hygiene in the facilities of social services (day centre, doss house, asylum house). They usually get their clothes from social or asylum clothes supplies. They do not live in relationships with partners however people who live in the public areas have more sexual contacts. More than half of respondents do not think about their future. People who live in asylum houses are more satisfied with their life situation, nevertheless more than half of respondents would like to change their life situation. On basis of the results of this research theoretical concepts were induced.

Performance comparison of selected populations of two breeds of rabitts
POUSTKA, Milan
The aim of the thesis was performance comparison of selected populations of two breeds of rabbits, the Moravian blue (Mm) and the Dutch rabbit (Ho), large and small breed of rabbit in fact. The monitored aspects were the production characters (growth and carcass yield) and reproduction characters (average numbers of birth, number of all births, live born and still-born births and number of weaning rabbits, ability of pregnancy, milkiness). Population of each of the breeds was monitored in a selected base of 68 litters of Moravian blue and 84 litters of Dutch rabbit. Both monitored breeds are recognized by the Czech Breeders Association as bred breeding and club breeding rabbits. Growth was monitored in regular intervals from birth until the end of fattening, i.e. until 8 months of age at Moravian blue a until 6 months of age at Dutch rabbit. The results were compared with the gain in weight published in pattern book of breeds. To evaluate milkiness, each of litters was weighed at 2 and 21 days of age. To compare the reproduction characters the monitored criteria were number of births, total natality and mortality and the number of raised births. The gained values of both breeds were compared and evaluated depending on increment of living mass and the fattening period. Carcass yield was monitored according to the traditional procedure of selected animals of average live weight and after reaching the slaughter age. The results show significantly higher gain in weight throughout the growth period of Dutch rabbit, than required by the pattern book of breeds. Moravian blue showed lower average increase of weight during the first five months of age from standard. The average number of rabbits in litter was 6,3 births at Moravian blue and 6,48 births at Dutch rabbit. On the other hand breeding succest and overall natality gave better results at Moravian blue. It has also been found that the milkiness of Moravian blue was 3985,4 grams in comparison with 2582,2 grams at Dutch rabbit, which is given by the size of breed. The slaughter analysis showed the carcass yield to be 56,1 % at Moravian blue and 62,4 % at Dutch rabbit, which is a value approaching meat breeds but at a lower meat production. The overall summary of the gained results showed greater production of living matter at Moravian blue rabbit providing greater demands for animal housing and feeding base. Its brood provides greater potential for growth and in some aspects better reproduction character. On the other hand, Dutch rabbit reached paradoxically more births in litter and higher carcass yield of undoubtedly better quality meat. Results of this thesis can be beneficial for choosing breed for novice breeders and for existing breeders it can help in their attempts to improve the strengths and eliminate the weaknesses of their breed.

Effects of diet and feeding behaviour on nestlings quality in House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)
Lusková, Miroslava ; Klvaňová, Alena (advisor) ; Šálek, Miroslav (referee)
This study focused on analysing the diet composition of nestlings of different age during two breeding seasons in rural environment of agricultural farm near Veselí nad Lužnicí, South Bohemia. Feeding behaviour and habitat selection by parents was also monitored. Population decline of the species as a consequence of low invertebrates rate in nestlings diet and disappearing of important habitats are discussed. Most of studies on feeding behaviour in the Czech Republic focused only on feeding frequency. Two commonly used methods for diet determination, neck- collars and faecal analysis, were compared. The feeding frequency of male and female were also determined. Coleoptera (Scarebeidae) were the most often determined group in samples of feacals, while Diptera (Tipulidae) were the most often determined group in samples from ligatures. The differences between diet of younger and older nestling were assessed. While diet of young nestlings contained Diptera, Coleoptera dominated in diet of older nestlings. The vegetable food, mainly seeds of Poaceae, dominated in diet of older nestlings. Amount of food increased along age gradient (samples of older nestlings were heavier). Different effect of animal proportion in the nestling diet was determined. Increase in animal proportion in the dietof young nestlings caused...

How bussiness cycles infuence property crime?
Havlíková, Iveta ; Lahvička, Jiří (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
This thesis aims to look into a relationship between business cycles, which are represented by unemployment, and property crime. I used daily data for years 2005-2010 from Prague. Models for seven different types of crimes (Pickpockets, pilfering of motor vehicle, car theft, pilfering of shops, pilfering of restaurants and two kinds of burglaries,(flats, houses) were used to help to examine this relationship. Positive impact of unemployment on property crime was not proven. On contrary there is negative and signifficant effect of unemployment on car thefts and pilfering of shops. One percentage point growth of unemployment causes decrese of car theft by 1,2 cars for one milion inhabitants per day and by 0,32 shops for one milion inhabitants per day. Also a negative impact of state holiday and different impact of climate contitions were proven.
