Spoken language in the Ostrava region
FROLOVÁ, Taťána
This bachelor?s thesis on the topic of Mluva Ostravska (Ostrava Dialect) is intended to survey the contemporary language, everyday speech, in Ostrava and its surroundings. We can suppose that both the influence of colloquial Czech language as well as Lachian dialect, although used inconsistently, makes this region a very interesting area from the lingvistic point of view. In the practical part, I have focused on the group of respondents divided into three age groups. The first group from 15 until 25 years of age, the second from 25 to 50 years of age, and the third from 50 years of age higher. In all the three groups I have included both males and females coming from Silesian dialect group. The survey studies attitudes of the respondents to their ability to distinguish between the standard Czech language and the Ostrava dialect. It focus on questions which help us find out if it causes problems for them to speak the standard language in everyday use and finally on their views on the popular media-mentioned Ostravak?s website . I have chosen this topic mainly in order to study if the dialect difference influences its user?s attitude towards Czech spelling, and if the dialect features cause more or less trouble in using concrete spelling patterns for the users.

It is extraordinarily important not only for linguistics, but also for a range of other scientific branches (e.g. history, ethnology, culturology, religionistics). The idea of the all-Slavic atlas originated as early as in 1929 and started to come into existence at the break of the 50th and 60th of the 20th century. One of the founders of the Slavic Linguistic Atlas was also the Czech linguist Bohuslav Havránek. Of the Czech dialectologists, J. Bělič, S. Utěšený, A. Vašek, K. Fic, J. Vojtová, and others have taken a notable share in the creation of this geolinguistic work. At present, the Czech National Committee processes the volume Reflections of *tort, *tolt, *tert, *telt of the fonetic-grammatical series.
