Perception of Help and Attention in Nursing
ALEČKA, Anna
Present state: Applicants for the general nurse education often state that their main motivation to this job is to help and assist other people. That is why it is very important in nursing that nurses have a good relationship with their clients. The nurse has to treat the client by providing him with care as a person with individual bio-psycho-social needs. On the basis of the identification of the client´s needs nurses are able to help the clients to meet their needs then when nursing them. As every man perceives help and assistance in another way, that is why it is very important to deal with this issue: "Perception of Help and Assistance in Nursing", both from the client´s and nurses´ point of view, so it is the topic of my research investigation. Research target: The target of the research investigation was to find out how the clients as recipients of the assistance and how the nurses as assistance providers perceive the assistance. As for the research target mentioned above, there were two research questions asked: What is the importance of the assistance for the clients being assisted by the nurses? What is the importance of the assistance for nurses who assist the clients? Methodology: For the research the qualitative method of collection and analysis of data was chosen. The qualitative method was realized by semi-structured voluntary and anonymous conversation. The data for the research were collected in the Domažlická nemocnice a. s. hospital in the standard internal ward block. The data were processed and categorized by open coding by the "pen and paper" method (Bartlová et al., 2008). The categories were arranged in charts in the SmartArt program. Results: From the research follows that the assistance is part and centre of nursing care the nurses provide to clients. Both the clients and nurses perceive it as an activity leading to satisfaction or solution of the particular problem. The assistance in nursing is both for nurses and clients very important since the assistance the nurses provide the clients as recipients is provided constantly. The assistance is provided through mutual communication between the nurse and the client. This communication lies in the nurses´ offer to assist only but clients do not ask for assistance themselves mostly. From the information obtained it is evident that there is not any relationship between the client and nurse when limits, target, course and the final assessment of the target had been set beforehand. Nevertheless, the provided assistance is evaluated by the recipients of the assistance, the clients, only. The nurses do not evaluate the assistance provided by them in any way. It means that they are not interested in it whether the assistance was useful and if it met the expectations of the assistance recipient. Nevertheless, it is interesting that clients evaluate the assistance provided by nurses in mostly cases positive and are its accommodating recipients. Conclusion: From the obtained results it follows that the assistance is part of nursing. The main target of the graduation paper was to find out how the assistance in nursing is perceived. The nursing assistance is an important consideration both for nurses and clients. In nursing the assistance is provided constantly. The interaction between the client and nurse is realized through communication which leads to provision of assistance. This bachelor paper shall help the nurses to extend their knowledge of provision and perception of assistance.

In order to get information I chose the method of qualified approach and the study of particular cases. A partly structured dialogue was the main technique in which seven clients engaged. We first defined the problem to deal with. It was the effectiveness and the influence of provided services in the asylum. Then we specified the main question and other partial questions of the inquiry. Obtained data was noted, analysed and interpreted in order to provide an answer to the questions of the inquiry. The practical part carries a record of a dialogue with one of the social workers of the Salvation Army Centre of Social Services of Bohuslav Bures provided for my quest as a part of it.
