Importance of self-monitoring of children with diabetes
PAPOUŠKOVÁ, Helena
In the research we focused on children treated in an endocrinological out-patient clinic. We addressed six respondents to participate in the qualitative research. Three objectives were set: C1: to ascertain how important for the patients the regular monitoring of glycaemia is; C2: to ascertain whether child patients are able to observe the therapeutic regime; C3: to ascertain whether providing parents, teachers, kitchen staff and instructors of spare-time activities with information has an effect on the care of children with diabetes.
Hormonal treatment in women, prejudice and awareness
BUDÍNOVÁ, Eva
Hormonal treatment is an essential component in treatment of a modern woman. But yet it is disputed and perceived negatively in women owing to prejudice and poor awareness of the issue. The lack of information or information obtained from non-professional sources cause prejudice and the negative perception that is difficult to refute. The data were collected using a quantitative as well as qualitative examination. The quantitative research was made through an anonymous questionnaire in the gynecologist{\crq}s office of MUDr. Koubková in Tábor. The questionnaire gathered identification data and general knowledge on hormone therapy. 110 questionnaires were handed out and 95 were included in the questionnaire. The qualitative examination was carried out in the form of an interview with the nurses from the gynecologists´ offices in Tábor. The thesis gives a survey of the awareness of treatment and the reasons for its refusing, which was its main target. The five single goals that had been set were accomplished by the research results. Five hypotheses were stated. The first, second and third hypotheses were to confirm the premise that women tend to have a negative attitude towards hormonal treatment and they refuse hormonal treatment on account of prejudice. These hypotheses were confirmed. The negative attitudes and hormonal treatment refusal stem from the lack of information or the information obtained from wrong sources. Prejudice is caused by inaccurate information obtained from non-professionals. The fourth and fifth hypotheses were to confirm the presumption that highly educated women have a more positive approach to hormonal treatment than those with basic education, and that the education level has an influence on the attitude towards hormonal treatment, and that women of a lower age are more open to hormonal treatment than middle-aged or elderly women. These hypotheses were not confirmed. Four hypotheses were determined. Questions 1 and 2 examined the women{\crq}s problem taking hormone therapy. Questions 3 and 4 investigated the way a nurse participates in giving information on hormone therapy in the gynecologist{\crq}s office and the way this shortage of information can be made up. All of the questions were answered by the results of the research. The results of the research show that women, while seeking information, address their questions to physicians, but also to their friends, or check the Internet for information. Those who influence their decision making in the respect of hormonal treatment are their partners, friends, media and others. Women confirmed that they have lack of information and are interested in obtaining more information about hormonal treatment. Prejudice and the negative attitude to hormonal treatment originate from lack of information. Hormonal treatment is an indispensable part of the care for a modern healthy woman. It is necessary for women to have access to all the information available to prevent them from the influence of incorrect information and prejudice. The results of the research will be used to make health care personnel familiar with the questions of unawareness and the influence of prejudice on women so that the situation could improve in this respect.
The realization of educational program at patient with diagnosis of cardiac infarction
MATUCHOVÁ, Mária
This Bachelor´s work deals with educational programmes for patients with recognised myocardial infarction. Even if the circulatory system mortality rate has been decreasing steadily, it remains quite high compared to other EU states. Thousands of people can be successfuly treated thanks to developing diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities. On the other hand, no treatment is effective enough without active clients´ cooperation. Higher attention, however, should be paid to the prevention. Medical and nursing staff care is to focus on patients´ treatment and their education so that they could cooperate actively in realisation, prevention and treatment processes. A client can get basic pieces of information during his stay in hospital and he takes them up again while being a client of out-patient cardiologic departments. Usually, educational process is not organised very well which provides bad or no continuity of medical and nursing care. The aim of this research survey has been to find out the sources which the clients use for getting information, and what attention is paid to educational programmes. The hypotheses assumed at the beginning are as follows: Clients are mostly informed by nurses and find most information in magazines and brochures. Clients, with a prevailing number of women, realise the educational programme. The research survey has had theses findings. The first two hypotheses has been disproved while the other two were proved. Clients get most information verbally which means that they prefer personal communication. Concerning the other two hypotheses, the educational programme is observed by most patients with a prevailing number of women. So the hypotheses has been proved. The findings obtained from this Bachelor´s work are very useful because the education of cardiac patients within and outside health care facilities can significantly help reduce the number of myocardial infarction patients.
Provision of first aid by mothers of children of pre-school age - education activities
ČEPILOVÁ, Martina
The Bachelor thesis called "Provision of first aid by mothers of pre-school children - educational activity" deals with the issue of prevention of child injuries, provision of first aid for child injuries and educational activity of a nurse. The main focus was on burns, intoxication and inspiration of a foreign body. The main aim was to ascertain the ability of parents of pre-school children to provide first aid for the most frequent injuries suffered at home. Attention was given to first and second-degree burns, intoxication and inspiration of a foreign body. Other aims of the thesis were to establish whether the parents recognize the importance of preventative measures against injuries and whether the parents are interested in obtaining more information provided by a nurse. A part of the thesis was also research investigation focusing on educational activity of nurses in the first aid area. Quantitative investigation was selected for the Bachelor thesis. Data collection was carried out by means of anonymous questionnaires. The research file consisted of parents of pre-school children. The method of structured dialogue was also used. The research file included nurses working in paediatric outpatient departments and instructors of child centres. The first hypothesis assumed that the parents know how to provide first aid for first-and second-degree burns. The parents are able to manage first aid for these injuries and the hypothesis was confirmed. The second hypothesis assumed that the parents are unable to provide first aid for the most frequent types of intoxication. The parents are able to provide first aid for common intoxication of children and therefore the hypothesis was not confirmed. The third hypothesis assumed that the parents are able to provide first aid for inspiration of a foreign body by a child. This hypothesis was confirmed. The fourth hypothesis assumed that the parents do not focus on the importance of preventative measures against child injuries. Results of the investigation showed that the parents are very much interested in the preventative measures and actively focus on them. In this case the hypothesis was not confirmed. The fifth hypothesis assumed that the parents are interested in obtaining more information about first aid provided by a nurse, which was confirmed by the results of our investigation and the hypothesis was confirmed. Within the framework of the Bachelor thesis a research investigation was carried out in the form of a structured dialogue with nurses of paediatric outpatient departments and instructors in child centres, which focused on educational activity in the first aid area. The results show that the medical staff engages in educational activity. We find the solution both in thorough education of parents of pre-school children by means of lectures, courses, seminars, printed matters or a campaign on TV, and in continuous training of the medical staff, which has to constantly pursue this issue and actively participate in the education of parents during their visits to a heath-care facility.
Education the parents of children with malabsorption syndrome
ADAMOVÁ, Erika
Celiac disease, which is the most frequent cause of the malabsorption syndrome in children, is a common term for a worldwide occurring disease affecting both children and adults. It is a chronic disease characterized by a permanent gluten intolerance, malabsorption in consequence of typical inflammatory changes of the small intestine mucosa, and clinical improvement when a gluten-free diet is followed. The only casual treatment is a permanent and strict gluten-free diet. The objective of this thesis was to survey the knowledge of parents of children with the malabsorption syndrome. The other objective was to describe the role of a nurse in education of parents of children with the malabsorption syndrome. Two hypotheses were stated, one of them was confirmed, the other was rejected. One part of the thesis is formed by two research investigations aimed at finding the awareness of parents of children with celiac disease and also to assess how the knowledge and application of principles of an educational system have been implemented by nurses who take care of children with celiac disease and their parents. The survey was carried out by a quantitative research method. The data were collected by the anonymous questionnaire technique. The research set was comprised of parents of children with celiac disease and nurses working in paediatric and gastroenterology clinics. In the thesis two hypotheses had been set up, one of which was confirmed, the other was rejected. The first hypothesis assumed that parents of children with the malabsorption syndrome were informed about the nature of the disease and the need to follow a gluten-free diet. The results have shown that parents are sufficiently informed in these points, and therefore the hypothesis was confirmed. The other hypothesis assumed that nurses apply the principles of an educational process while providing information. But the research has shown that the vast majority of nurses do not know those principles and that is why they do not use them in practice. The hypothesis was not confirmed in this case.Enhancement through the use of educational principles in practice is recommended to improve the present care for children with a celiac disease and their parents. Nurses´ proficiency should be constantly boosted and deepened. The outcomes of this thesis can be presented at professional seminars and workshops in order to contribute to the improvement of this condition.
Nursing intervencion with middle age patients suffering from arrhythmia.
KOLÁŘOVÁ, Libuše
Current rapid development medical science is already at such level that its aim is to meet need of patients in maximum possible extend and there are significant achievements in modern medical treatment. It does not promise full recovery, however quality of patients life may improve earlier or acute problems can be eliminated on time thanks to early diagnostics, well chosen treatment or early medical action and last but not least approach of entire attending medical staff and professional attitude of a nurse, who is an essential part of complex care, since he/she is often the first one in contact with patients, can recognize a problem and make sure it will be looked at.
The role of a nurse in patiens with inserted endobronchial stent.
PEŠKOVÁ, Martina
The goal of this bachelor thesis was to ascertain what role the nurse performs in care for patient with inserted endobronchial stent. The research set consists of ten patients with stenosis of trachea and large airways. Stenosis has a lot of causes but all patients have similar symptoms. The basic problem of such patients stays the same; they come because of breathlessness that restricts them in performance of common daily activities. We asked the research question whether the nursing care for patient with inserted endobronchial stent has influence on improvement of the breathlessness and whether education by the nurse is important for the patient with inserted endobronchial stent. The goal was met and the research questions answered. Three hypotheses were set on the base of the result. H1: Insertion of endobronchial stent has influence on improvement of patient{\crq}s breathlessness. H2: Nursing care for patient with inserted endobronchial stent has influence on self-care in patient{\crq}s daily activities. H3: The most important topic of education in patient with inserted endobronchial stent is inhalation. The nurse{\crq}s nursing care is indispensable because the patient needs it for the whole period of the difficulties. The influence of nursing care improves the patient{\crq}s discomfort caused by breathlessness. The nurse{\crq}s care provides the patients with physical, but also with psychic support. The patients admitted because of breathlessness are tired, exhausted and completely dependent on oxygen. They are not able to perform sanitary needs by themselves, are also restricted in movement, feeding, but also in dressing and evacuation. The nurse chooses, individually and by the patients{\crq} possibilities, such techniques that allow satisfaction of all bio-psycho-social needs during provision of nursing care. She provides also psychic support important to reach the goal, i.e. to eliminate the patients{\crq} breathlessness. Not all patients master the breathlessness well; there are patients who need psychic support by the nurse. We also describe the significance of education by the nurse in this bachelor thesis. The role of the nurse is to perform education so that the patients understand that daily hygiene of airways is, because of the inserted endobronchial stent, very important and has its role. Insufficient nurse{\crq}s education and therefore bad hygiene of airways causes complications because of which the patient must seek medical attention and be hospitalized. This bachelor thesis will serve also in practice to familiarize the general public at lay and professional level with the a possibility of therapy of breathlessness of patients with stenosis in large airways.
Patient awareness of anesthesia prior to a planned surgery through the eyes of the patients and the anesthesiology nursesnurse.
HERMANNOVÁ, Blanka
Patient awareness of anesthesia prior to a planned surgery through the eyes of the patients and the anesthesiology nurses Abstract This Bachelor{\crq}s thesis focuses on the research and evaluation of the level of patient awareness of the progress of anesthesia prior to a planned surgery. The awareness of anesthesia is evaluated from the point of view of the patient and the anesthesiology nurse. The scope of the thesis also includes the issue of proper communication with the patient and the importance of winning his trust to the medical personnel during the general preparation for the surgery as well as in the course of his hospitalization. It also shows the patient{\crq}s opinions on the acquisition of information on anesthesia, which would certainly alleviate his fear of the surgery. This Bachelor{\crq}s thesis is primarily based on a quantitative survey of opinions of patients and anesthesiology nurses, conducted in the form of anonymous questionnaires in which both groups expressed their views on the specific hypotheses. The key purpose of the thesis is to confirm the hypotheses, which assume that patients are not given sufficient information on their anesthesia, in spite of their interest in obtaining better knowledge of the anesthetic process. Hypothesis 2, i.e. ``Patients are interested in information from the anesthesiology nurse,{\crq}q cannot be confirmed because, based on the survey, patients prefer doctors to anesthesiology nurses as the source of information. On the basis of the survey, the thesis confirms hypothesis 1, i.e. ``Patients are not informed about the progress of anesthesia by the anesthesiology nurse.{\crq}q The low share of anesthesiology nurses in the patient{\crq}s education prior to a planned surgery is demonstrated by the opinions of the participating anesthesiology nurses, whose share is extremely low and mostly involves situations just before the planned surgery, when the patient is already lying in the surgery room. As regards hypothesis 3, i.e. ``Anesthesiology nurses are not interested in informing the patients of the progress of anesthesia prior to a planned surgery,{\crq}q it is confirmed that anesthesiology nurses are really not interested in educating the patients for many reasons, such as their large workload, lack of time, insufficient motivation and unsatisfactory financial reward. As a possible solution, we have suggested a patient education standard for anesthesiology nurses and an information leaflet for patients, which could help them understand the progress of preparation for anesthesia and the possibilities of anesthesia in general. In no case should the leaflet substitute personal education by an anesthesiology nurse; its purpose is only to serve as on instruction for the patient to prepare questions which he would like to ask before the surgery.
The influence of information on observance of the regimen precations in patients with deep venous thrombosis hospitalized in the internal ICU.
HRSTKOVÁ, Pavla
The aim of the thesis was to find out if the awareness of patients with deep vein thrombosis hospitalized in internal ICU influences the observance of regime precautions. The thesis is divided into the theoretical part and the part focused on the research. The theoretical part is focused on the data on the deep vein thrombosis: anatomy data, pathophysiology, causes, clinical signs, investigation methods, complication and treatment. Regime precautions are the necessary part of the treatment. Their observance influences not only easing the complaints, but also prevents the onset of complication development which might result in patient ´s death. A patient with deep vein thrombosis is hospitalized at an ICU of internal department. A part of the thesis is the description of the department and the description of patient{\crq}s admission to the department. Education, interview and observation are the part of nurse ´s work. That is why I described the bases of education, educational process and observation. Qualitative research was applied. The research was carried out at ICU of internal department in Český Krumlov. Research group was created by 8 patients; each second of them was educated in super standard way. In all patients the introductory interview was carried out. The aim was to find out if a patient understood the information given by a doctor, if he or she knows about the regime precautions and their reasons. Further, the part of the patients was educated in super standard way in the course of the whole hospitalization. For this education an educational plan and an information brochure were created. After that the observation of all 8 patients was carried out. The observation was divided into two parts; the plan of observation was created. In the first part called the period of immobilization, the record was carried out during the first three days of this period. This part was focused on the regime precautions concerning the rest of a patient in bed, hydration, elevation of an affected limb, application of cold compresses and movement activities carried out in bed. The second period concerning the first three days when a patient could leave the bed, it was observed if the patients keep the application of elastic roller bandages before they leave the beds, hydration and movement activities according to the doctor ´s recommendation. The aim of my thesis was fulfilled. The research question was aimed at a question if the patients{\crq} awareness influences the observance of regime precautions in case of the deep vein thrombosis. The results proved that the education of patients significantly influences the observance of regime precautions. These patients moreover ask and are interested in the problems of the illness. On the basis of research results hypothesis were stated: H1: The education of patients with deep vein thrombosis positively influences the observance of regime precautions in the period of immobilization. H2: The education of patients with deep vein thrombosis increases their interest in regime precautions at the discharge into domiciliary nursing. The results of the research will be used at the professional hospital seminar for nurses. On the basis of the research the educational plan focused on the regime precautions for the patients with the deep vein thrombosis and informative brochure for the patients were created. The brochure was adopted and started to be used at the education of patients with deep vein thrombosis.
The role of nurse in education of patients with implanted intravenous port catheter
VODIČKOVÁ, Petra
Intravenous port catheter is a special type of central intravenous catheter ensuring a reliable, safe and longterm access into the central vein by means of hypodermic injection. In recent years the intravenous port catheters have become common part of treatment and they are mainly used in patients suffering from oncological malignities for repeated doses of chemotherapy and pain killing medicine. Intravenous port catheters are also applied in other chronic states when a quality and reliable vein access is necessary. The care for intravenous port catheters is very special and the attitude of the nurse plays an important role. It is important to include the patient in the care for the intravenous port catheter, communicate with him/her effectively and to provide him with sufficient information. Thus a good cooperation between the patient and the nurse can be ensured the result of which is a fully functional intravenous port catheter with a long use. This paper deals with the role of the nurse in educating patients with an intravenous port catheter. It is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains information on the intravenous port catheter and education of patients. The practical part consists of a qualitative research. The method of individual, partially prepared interviews with patients with intravenous port catheter was applied to data collecting. Three research questions were set: 1. Are patients with an intravenous port catheter interested in receiving information on this system? 2. Are patients with an intravenous port catheter interested in receiving printed information material? 3. Is printed information material beneficiary for patients? 12 patients made up the research file. The research was carried out at the haematological-oncological department of the University Hospital in Pilsen. The first goal of the paper was to find out what information patients with an intravenous port catheter need. The second goal was preparation of a printed education material for the patients based on the information found out. The third goal was to find out whether the prepared information material is a help to the patients. These goals were fulfilled. Based on the information from the first group patients an information leaflet was prepared. This leaflet was then applied to educate the second group patients. Patients acquainted with the leaflet and the information it provided were satisfied. Patients consider the benefit of the leaflet in that they can check the needed information and that they can write down in the leaflet questions for the nurse and write down notes. The analysis of the interviews has also shown that patients wish to complete information in the leaflet by a discussion with the nurse. The role the nurse is irreplaceable and the most effective method is to use the printed material together with a discussion. The results of this paper shall be applied in the work of nurses to provide quality information to patients with an intravenous port catheter.
