The perception of dying and death
ROŽNOVSKÁ, Kateřina
The thesis describes the perception of dying and death among Werich family members, who were clients of Home hospice Tabita. The study is accompanied by an interview with Mr. Werich that took care of his dying wife. The observation has been performed by myself as an employee of Home Hospice Tabita. Facts obtained from the interview are supported by expert literature and my own participant observation. The study demonstrates what the dying families have in common, but also shows the specifics of individual cases. Although the hospice is based on Christian principles, it may profesionally and efectively work with non-Christian family members as well.

KOZÁKOVÁ, Jitka
The thesis deals with insuring a humanly dignified care for terminally ill senior people approached as the goal of a social work in a hospital environment. Medical facilities belong to places where senior people most often pass away, and where their dignity is also most endangered. The basis for working out the thesis is describing the man seen as the being whole and at the same time uniuqe, in which one sees man?s dignity. The following part of the thesis is dedicated to a palliative care as a guarrantor of maintaining dignified and quality life till its end. A knowledge of conceiving a terminally ill senior man, his/her needs and values is for a provision of the palliative care necessary. A part of the thesis deals with a specificity of social work in a palliative care, and with professional a personal competencies of a social worker. A provision of a support to those terminally ill and their close ones is in a hospital environment insured only partly. Based on the information collected the thesis is dedicated to outlining a humanly dignified care as the aim of social work. A social worker can participate on the above mentioned by being in a role of an accompanying one and a consultant for those left. A possibility to support a spiritual dimension of the man to which a social worker is in his/her both roles often close is approached in the final part of the thesis.

PFLEGROVÁ, Petra

In the theoretical part I describe the concepts relating to the care for the dying and dying itself, as well as the potential risk of marginalization, which is associated with dying. Furthermore, the mention of palliative care in the form of a mobile hospice, with its multidisciplinary team that should try as far as possible to avoid marginalization. There is also the issue of euthanasia, in contrast with the use of palliative care. Hospices are the last topic in the theoretical part, the history and current state of hospice fieldwork. In the practical part I try to determine through research if and how mobile hospice avoid marginalization. Another aim of the research was to map the motives of the workers in hospice care, identify their goals and the problems they must overcome.
The Turnover of Personal Effects as a Nursing Staff's Problem
PEČENKOVÁ, Ladislava
The Turnover of Personal Effects as a Nursing Staff´s Problem The subject of death is part of life. For nursing staff, a very difficult and psychologically very demanding situation and part of their work is having to onform the next-of-kin that their relative´s life has ended. Conveying such news requires good ethical and communication skills on the part of the nurses. In addition to psychological stress, there are other aspects that have to be dealt with, e.g., communication as such, as well as proprietary and family relation with the next-of-kin. The objective of my research was to identify the problems that nursing staff members encounter when turning personal effects of the deceased over to the next-of-kin. With this objective in mind, I formulated my first hypothesis. The nurses´ primary problem during turnover of personal effects is communication. Secondly, I wanted to find out about the nurses´ preparedness for communication with next-of-kin and for turnover of personal effects. Finally, I wanted to see, whether the nurses needed anything to be able to handle the process adequately. For addressing the latter question, I created a second hypothesis. The nurses´ perception of the process of turnover of personal effects depends on the suitability of the environment. This undergraduate thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical and a practical one. In the theoretical part, man´s death as well as care for the dying and the dead is described from historical and present-day perspective. Various rituals, legal steps, communication problems, and their effect on nurses are described. A quantitative survey was taken using the technique of hard-copy questiinnaires. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 34 questions. It was addressed to the nursing staff in oncology, internal medicine, surgery, and geriatric hospital wards, as well as psychiatricasylums and homes for the elderly in the Vysočina and South-Bohemian Regions. The results of my survey refuted the first and confirmed the second hypothesis of mine. The thesis also myps the problems that nurses in these wards encounter most frequently. The nurses´ suggestions can be useful to managements of medical and social institutions seeking practical solutions for facilitating and improving the quality of the process of turning over the personal effects of he deceased.
Seniors' defination of the term "dignity"
CHUMLENOVÁ, Martina
My baccalaureate work deals with the interpretation and understanding of the concept of ``dignity{\crqq} by senior citizens. My research is focussed on the elderly living in homes for the aged. The objective of my work consists in monitoring the current evaluation of the above mentioned concept by senior citizens living in the Seniors Home Hvízdal and in the Seniors Home Máj, both based in České Budějovice, Czech Republic. The theoretical section of my work deals with the basic concepts related to old age, i. g. the biological and social, the psychological and spiritual aspects of old age. The issues of retirement planning, the concept of ageism, the relationship between a senior citizen and his or her family as well as between a senior citizen and society are discussed here. The theoretical section is also concerned with social care for the elderly, namely with homes for the aged, both in the general perspective and as related to the two aforementioned Homes for Senior Citizens Hvízdal and Máj. The last theoretical section includes the determination of the concept of human dignity and official documents related to human dignity protection. The practical section of my work is based on two hypotheses. Two working hypotheses have been outlined, both of which have been tested under the use of controlled questionnaires in both social care institutions. It has not been proved that the elderly living in these homes for senior citizens would evaluate the treatment of the staff as being in conflict with the clients´ dignity. The second hypothesis that most seniors do not know what the concept of ``dignity{\crqq} includes and represents has not been proved either. The research as outlined in the Abstract has served both for the purposes of my baccalaureate work and for the internal purposes and needs of the Seniors Home Hvízdal and the Seniors Home Máj.

In the fifth chapter, I address the questions of euthanasia and death in recent years. The sixth chapter is about the relationship between a doctor and a patient. The seventh chapter covers palliative medicine and the eighth chapter further expands on this subject with the topic of hospice care. In the ninth chapter, I pursue the point of religious motivational impact. The tenth and eleventh chapters are dedicated to the followers and objectors of euthanasia. The practical part concentrates on exploratory research. I have chosen sociological research using the methods of discussion. Here are three interviews with experts, who interact with dying individuals on a daily basis. These questioned specialists are believers and therefore the discourses are anonymous. The objective of these discussions was to uncover how professional in different facilities view the issues of euthanasia. This objective was sucessfully achieved.
