The Incidence of Suicide Among Alcoholics
LHOTSKÁ, Veronika
For my master thesis, I have chosen the topic of alcoholics' suicide occurrence. There were 1647 people who have committed a suicide in the Czech Republic during the year 2012. Out of the 1647 people, there were 1370 men, and 277 women (ČSÚ, 2013). The deaths of alcoholics are not recorded by the National Evidence Center. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The information for the theoretical part was gathered from academic sources. The two examined parts are the suicide commitment in the Czech Republic, and the alcohol consumption. The practical part is simply a primary research that I have done in PL Červený Dvůr. The research had two parts; quantitative and qualitative. The qualitative part was done through interviews with chosen respondents. The quantitative part was done through surveys distributed in PL Červený Dvůr. I have chosen to do the quantitative part first, so that I could choose the right candidates for the quantitative part based on their responses. The interviews helped me to complete the information I was looking for. I have set various goals that I wanted to reach through the research. The main goal was to chart the suicide behavior of alcoholics who are patients of PL Červený Dvůr. In order to reach such goal, I have set partial goals. The first partial goal was to contras the reason that lead the patients of PL Červený Dvůr to try to commit a suicide. According to the results I received, the most common reason for committing a suicide is either unfulfilled love, or the breaking-up with partner. Another goal was to discover the way the patients tried to kill themselves. As the majority responded so, the most common way is to cut the veins while drunk. The third goal was to compare and contrast the different reasons why as well as the ways how to commit a suicide. I have focused on two groups of patients of PL Červený Dvůr; the alcoholics and the toxicants. The alcoholics had proven that the reason why the tried to kill themselves was love, but the toxicants stated that they did it because they simply did not have a reason to live anymore. Both of the groups decided to end their lives by cutting their veins.

Anonymous Alcoholics self-help groups, as a form of aftercare and relapse prevention for people dependent on alcohol and their families
LUKEŠOVÁ, Libuše
This thesis covers one of the methods of gaining and maintaining sobriety of individuals addicted to alcohol. This method was developed in 1935 in the USA and gradually spread out worldwide. It has been used in the Czech Republic since 1989. It´s basic idea is the determination that one alcoholic can help the other by mutual exchange of his or her experience with alcohol. The long-term sober individual helps the other who is still currently drinking but wishes to stop his addiction. The success of this method is based on the willingness to work on himself or herself by utilizing of a program called "Twelve Steps". Its foundation is spiritual but is commonly used by atheists as well as agnostics. Work on this program is not limited by time. It is rather a lifelong process of gradual self-improvement.

Physiotherapy as a part of complex therapy of women who are treated from their alcoholism
KEHAROVÁ, Gabriela
The topic of the thesis is: "Physiotherapy as a Part of Complex Therapy of Women Treated for Alcoholism." Tens of thousands of people, namely 25 % of men and 10 % of women suffer from alcohol addiction in the Czech Republic. The first part of the Bachelor Thesis characterizes general attributes of addiction and alcoholism as such. The main part of the work and the research are focused on women?s alcoholism. The research was performed in cooperation with 5 patients treated for alcohol addiction in the Psychiatric Clinic Červený Dvůr. The tested group of patients was monitored for less than 3 months. The aim of the work was to monitor the influence of therapeutic physical training on physical and mental health of women abstaining from alcohol. Three research questions were asked: Will the overall fitness of abstaining women improve after taking twenty training units? Will the women feel better after the training? Will regular exercise influence the sleep regime of the abstaining women? The exercises were focused on improvement of condition and balance, relaxation exercises. Semi-structured interview with the women and monitoring were involved to examine the effect. The data were processed by means of qualitative content analysis. Improvement of fitness depending on the number of the undertaken exercise units was seen in all the patients. The balance abilities, which also more or less improved, relate to the fitness. The results of the questionnaires filled in by the patients during the research to examine the effect of the exercises on sleep showed that the exercises within the research had no influence on the sleep regime. All the patients were instructed in home exercising followed by kinesiotherapy. A control group of five women treated from alcohol addiction not participating in the exercises was chosen for examination of the exercise effect. Upon positive replies to the first two research questions, and comparison of the values measured in the research group and those measured in the control group the positive influence of therapeutic physical training on physical and mental health of women abstaining from alcohol may be confirmed. This work will serve as an input for consideration of permanent integration of physiotherapy in complex therapy of women treated for alcoholism.
Comparison of Alcohol Policies in Norway and Sweden
Genserová, Jitka ; Běláčková, Vendula (advisor) ; Chalupníček, Pavel (referee)
Alcohol policy in Scandinavia has a long tradition going back to the 16th century. This paper compares historical development of alcohol regulation in Norway and Sweden and describes recent changes in alcohol control policies that happened after the involvement of both countries in the European integration. The aim of this thesis is to determine, in which of the above mentioned countries alcohol policy is stricter and more effective. Measures regulating the physical availability of alcohol are compared, as well as the taxation of alcohol, which is the most important part of the alcohol policy. The impact of restrictive measures on alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harm is also discussed. Norway did not join the European Union and could keep quotas for traveler's import of alcohol. That's why Norway managed to avoid a significant increase in total alcohol consumption, which occurred in Sweden after the abolition of import quotas in 2004. For this reason Norwegian alcohol policy seems to be stricter and more effective than the Swedish one.
