Sexual size dimorphism of Salamandridae and its correlates with life history factors
ŠIMROVÁ, Lenka
Amphibians are important and interesting group of animals. Salamandridae are wellknown group of caudate amphibians. In this group we find sexual size dimorphism in three forms: bigger female than male, bigger male than female, and no difference in size. This fact was the impetus for my bachelor thesis, which deals with sexual size dimorphism for this family. The aim of this work was to determine to what forms of sexual dimorphism of size are different types and how it can be related to other selected factors. For this group of amphibians is true that more than half of the individuals are bigger female than male, a quarter of individuals is no sexual size dimorphism and the rest no individuals are bigger male than female. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between sexual size dimorphism and sexual courtship and amplexus.
Monitoring of changes in distribution of amphibians in Novohradské Mountains and their piedmont
ŽALUD, Štěpán
The changes in the occurrence of amphibian were monitored in the region of Novohradske mountains and in its foothills in seasons 2009-2010. Observation was focused on the presence of 11 species of amphibian in 31 selected locations. The results confirmed a significant decrease in the frequency of the species: Smooth Newt (Lissotriton vulgaris), Alpine Newt (Mesotriton alpestris), Warty Newt (Triturus cristatus) and synklepton Pelophylax synklepton esculentus. A mild decrease by European Tree Frog (Hyla arborea) and Common Spadefood (Pelobates fuscus). The balanced condition was found out by Fired Bellied Toad (Bombina bombina) and Yellow Bellied Toad (Bombina variegata), Common Toad (Bufo bufo), Grass Frog (Rana temporaria), Moor Frog (Rana arvalis) and Agile Frog (Rana dalmatina). Species were determined according to morphological characters. Observed data were compared with results of surveys of monitored sites from years 1999-2004.
Habitat preferences of amphibians in Europe and abroad.
BLAŽKOVÁ, Zuzana
I have examined the current state of knowledge on the causes of worldwide amphibian declines, ephasizing their complexity. Furthemore I have revised the methodology of amphibian surveys and amphibian conservation status with implications for future work and improvement.
