Literary work at the Jesuit academy in Olomouc in the years 1597-1598 and its reflection in print production
Vaculínová, Marta
In the years 1597–1598, a large increase in Latin prints, especially poetry, can be observed in Olomouc’s printed production. Their authors are mostly connected with the Jesuit Academy in Olomouc. Researchers have noticed this strange phenomenon in the past, but it has not yet been satisfactorily explained. The article aims to find out the cause of this unusual „creative wave“. It is most probably due to a hitherto unknown personality, about whom we know more thanks to the research of Polish researchers – the Jesuit professor of poetry Johann Clingerius from Thuringia (1557?–1610), who taught at the Jesuit Academy during that period. On his initiative and with the support of Bishop Stanislav Pavlovský, more than thirty poetry prints were published by Jiří Handl and the heirs of Friedrich Milichthaler. Clingerius published his poems anonymously, under pseudonyms or under the names of others. He did not only profile himself as a poet, mastered graphic techniques and influenced the decoration of Olomouc prints. In addition, the appendix contains a bibliography of Latin poetry publications between 1597–1598.

The Master´s thesis contains the methodology of the baroque church reconstruction from 17th and 18th centuries. An unmarked floor plan has been preserved from the original idea. The process of applying knowledge, professional literature, comparison, research in archives and personal inspection of similar buildings created a hypothetical model of the church with its complete documentation. In the process of reconstruction, a number of questions were answered. The result of the work is the design of a hypothetical church. At the same time, the author has acquired the principles and regularities of designing buildings in the baroque period with regard to their thinking, knowledge and technical possibilities at this period.

The diploma thesis deals with a possible solution for the construction of a hospice in Nové Sady in Olomouc. The aim was to design a place where, despite the severity of the disease, people can spend their last moments in peace and dignity. The aim was to open up the hospice, not only physically - towards the river, but also in its function - by connecting it to the children‘s centre.

The diploma thesis aims to project a new building for Olomouc Research Library. This library is the third largest library of its kind in Czech republic, however according to the area for the readers, it's one of the smallests and it's currently divided into three separate buildings. The aim of this project is to design a complex, open and easily accessible library. A building, that will connect all the existing operation and will offer spaces to studying, work, personal development or social interactions, as quality work environment for the employees. The library is located in an important area on tř. Svobody, where the historic centre meets with blocks from Camillo Sitte and two parks. The proposed volume complements the existing compact structure, creates a new gateway to the city and connects the two parks. The building itself consists of three parts - the public, the stuff and the books. Being a stable element, the books are placed in the form of a depository on the northwesten edge of the plot to Aksamitova street. The areas for the public and the employees are oriented towards the park and the city street. The facades are mostly glazed shielded by expanded metal panels. The designed building is transparent and offers the passers-by a view into the bowels of either the library or the robotic depository.

The proposal deals with the densification of the urban structure at the confluence of the Morava and Bystřička rivers in Olomouc. The main aim of the project is to create an artistic and social centre of the city with the function of artistic education of the inhabitants. The valuable location of the confluence naturally offers the possibility of recreation, the design reinforces this value by its form, opening up to it as much as possible, while at the same time separating urban spaces disturbing the concept of a quiet oasis.

The project aims to design a new building for the primary art school and also create room for the center of architecture, which would serve to popularize architecture and create opportunities for the presentation of works of art. The main concept of the whole project is to build a proposal for mutual inspiration. The central motif is the gallery, which not only ideologically, but also physically and functionally connects the program of the entire building. The program concept is based on the interconnection of the different functions int the building and the corresponding connection to the surroundings. The idea divides the locality into a northern public space of an urban character with a café ending the newly -built embankment and a quiet, more private southern park connected to the waterfront. The volumetric solution of the building is based on the same concept. The northern part responds to the city‘s block structure, while the southern part already opens freely in cascades into the park towards the solitary dormitories. By this decision, the construction clearly defines the termination of the embankment and the division of the city and natural waterfront. The park is the second element of the design. The building separates the quiet area from the city, orients it, and connects it to the waterfront. This creates a green area suitable not only for leisure activities of students from the nearest dormitories but also for the general public. As a result, the project does not only apply to a certain group but also creates space for everyone.

As the assignment reveals, this bachelor’s thesis deals with the connection between the art elementary school and the architecture center. These two functions have more in common than they might seem at first glance. Both institutions deal with public education in the field of art, which often does not receive the attention it deserves at state educational institutions. It is not just a connection to a functional unit within one area. Equally important is the connection at the thought and conceptual level. The location in which the project is located is predestined for educational institutions. Located in Olomouc near the historic center and currently in the immediate vicinity of university dormitories, at the same time on the opposite bank of Moravia there is a music elementary school Žerotín with a long tradition. The architectural design works mainly with the extension of ZUŠ to the park through the creation of separate studios. This achieves meeting the special requirements of the studios (drawing, digital painting, sculpture, ...). At the same time, the atmosphere is relaxed compared to the classic location of classrooms inside of single building. The studios are in direct contact with the life taking place in the park. The Architecture Center, on the other hand, takes on the role of the gateway to this art park and provides the technical background for the art school. Inside of the building of the center of architecture there is also a common gallery, cafe, specialized library and a lecture room. The design strives for a decent but strong connection between the center of architecture and the art school. Emphasis is placed especially on the freedom in the creative process of artists, which is why the studios are light wooden buildings with all-glass facades. The center of architecture is, in contrast to the loose settlement of the studio, a solidly set building. It communicates with the surrounding buildings by a uniform facade, which opens towards the park.

The aim of the project is to complete the city on two levels. Within the meaning of densifying the development, i.e. filling the now empty site with a building that exploits the potential of the site, and of complementing the functional structure of the city with a building that would bring new opportunities for the city. The undevelopment of the site is based on the historical context. Previously, the site was the place of the fortification system of the city of Olomouc and the Morava River was used as a natural barrier; after the abolition of the fortification system, most of the vacant strip was built over, but some empty spaces still remain, as it is in the case with the site. At the same time, the city of Olomouc has basically no city architect and all efforts for architectural debate, exhibitions or development are scattered in a decentralised way. The city also has a very small elementary art school, which is out of proportion to the music school located near the location of my design. The project therefore aims to meaningfully complete to city.
