Web Portal for Network Traffic Anotation
Málik, Peter ; Tobola, Jiří (referee) ; Žádník, Martin (advisor)
Bachelor´s thesis aim is to create a system for network traffic anotation. For this purpose it is necessary to correctly determine the protocols for all layers of the network model TCP/IP. To identify the application layer protocol is used a method based on port numbers and a method based on tracing the signatures in packet´s data field by using regular expressions. Web portal was written in PHP, using the extension phpcap and tcpdump program, which provides manual anotation of network traffic.
Construction of Nondeterministic Finite Automata
Stanek, Timotej ; Šimek, Václav (referee) ; Kaštil, Jan (advisor)
This thesis discuss about dilemma in construction of nondeterministic finite automata from PCRE expressions with respect of their parameters with use in Intrusion Detection Systems. There is showed PCRE expressions syntax too. We discussed two different approaches to construct nondeterministic finite automata from PCRE expressions. The implementation of these two algorithms is described. We constructed finite automata with them from expressions of three Intrusion Detection Systems: SNORT, Bro IDS and L7-Filter, and finally we compared their parameters and deduced conclusions.
Implementation of the Pattern Matching Unit in the FPGA
Košař, Vlastimil ; Kořenek, Jan (referee) ; Kaštil, Jan (advisor)
This term project focuses on algorithms for pattern matching used in modern IDS. The main focus is on regular expression matching. It deals with methods based on deterministic and nondeterministic finite automata, hybrid methods and with method based on regular expressions as programing langue for specialised processors. Implementation of pattern matching units based on some of described methodologies is described in next part. Methodology for resource consumption estimation is also described. Developed software system for unit generation is described in the next part. In the final part results are presented and discused.
Reliability Measurement of the Pattern Matching
Dvořák, Milan ; Košař, Vlastimil (referee) ; Kaštil, Jan (advisor)
This thesis deals with the pattern matching methods based on finite automata and describes their optimizations. It presents a methodology for the measurement of reliability of pattern matching methods, by comparing their results to the results of the PCRE library. Experiments were conducted for a finite automaton with perfect hashing and faulty transition table. Finally, the resulting reliability evaluation of the algorithm is shown and possible solutions of the identified problems are proposed.
Detection of P2P Networks
Březina, Matej ; Matoušek, Petr (referee) ; Tobola, Jiří (advisor)
This document deals with design, implementation and testing of software system for detecting p2p (peer-to-peer) networks based on combination of BPF prefiltering and POSIX regular expressions packet payload matching with known p2p protocol communications. The proposed detection system includes a database with some rules of most effuse p2p protocols in format resembling to definitions for L7-filter classifier. The application is implemented in C, runs in userspace and is targeted to all POSIX compatible platforms. The combination of detector with user attached QoS controlling is complete solution for traffic reduction of common p2p protocols.
Hardware Acceleration of Protocol Identification
Kobierský, Petr ; Martínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
Dynamic growth of computer networks encourages rapid development of network applications and services. To provide sufficient network service quality, it is important to limit some network flows based on their application protocol type. This thesis deals with the methods of network protocol identification and discusses their accuracy and suitability for multigigabit networks.  Based on the analysis, a protocol identification model was created and evaluated. The model was used for the design of hardware architecture accelerating computationally intensive operations of protocol identification.  The proposed solution is able to work on 10 Gb/s networks and export protocol information using NetFlow protocol.
Fast Regular Expression Matching Using FPGA
Kaštil, Jan ; Martínek, Tomáš (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
The thesis explains several algorithms for pattern matching. Algorithms work in both software and hardware. A part of the thesis is dedicated to extensions of finite automatons. The second part explains hashing and introduces concept of perfect hashing and CRC. The thesis also includes a suggestion of possible structure of a pattern matching unit based on deterministic finite automatons in FPGA. Experiments for determining the structure and size of resulting automatons were done in this thesis.
Library for Fast Network Traffic Processing
Vokráčko, Lukáš ; Viktorin, Jan (referee) ; Kořenek, Jan (advisor)
This thesis is focused on time-critical operations in context of computer networks. Processed operations are packet classification, specially one-dimensional classification, longest prefix matching using binary search on prefix length and TreeBitmap, pattern matching using Aho-Corasick, regular expression matching and packet header analysis and extraction. Purpose of this work is to design API for library implementing these operations. Implementation speed of these operations is measured on Intel and ARM platforms.
The simulation of biometric protection systems working on the face recognition principle
Dubský, Milan ; Rampl, Ivan (referee) ; Atassi, Hicham (advisor)
The aim of this work is to realize a system in the Matlab-Simulink environment, which will be able to detect and recognize the human face from the input image. The created model will actually simulate the biometric security systems working on the principle of face recognition. The work is divided into two parts. In the first part, several methods for face detection from image are described. We focused on the symptomatic oriented and color segmentation methods. The pattern matching method is also described and implemented; the advantage ofthe pattern matching that it can be used either for face detection or face recognition. The second part of this work contains a description of the face recognition. Where PCA (Principal Component Analysis) are used for this task, this part of the work also includes experimental results of tests performed on our methods.
