The use of music therapy and its influence on well-being and development of competences among handicapped children
PRŮŠOVÁ, Aneta
My thesis on the use of music therapy and its influence on well-being and development of competences among handicapped children is divided into two parts - theoretical and research. The objective of my work is to explore possible effects of music therapy on the handicapped children. I chose a non-traditional form of music therapy among disabled children so that my research could be different. In the theoretical part there was defined the term of music therapy, described its history and its individual methods and techniques. Then I defined the term of handicapped child and other related terms. I described the most common diagnosis of disabled children. There follow a few examples of parents with handicapped children and their ability to cope with their disability in my work. I am seeking answers to two research questions in the research part: 1. Is it possible to see any changes among handicapped children regularly attending music therapy? 2. If yes, what are the changes? I chose a qualitative research strategy. In the next chapter there are described data obtaining methods, which were observation and a semi-structured dialog. Within my research I was visiting the Center Arpida in České Budějovice, the club Little Singers at least once a month for one year. Children who visit this club ( there are 13 of them) learn individual songs and then they present them on various performances during the whole year. The results of my research were described on several levels. The first level describes observed changes among individual children, the second level describes work of the club during one year, the third seeks more general answers to research questions. Concerning socialization of individuals at the same age in the group , children communicate and joke in the club together and with their teacher. They share their life experiences which are important for them. They care about their successful performance. Some children have a really friendly relationship with each other. The second result is socialization of individuals in society. Children are not afraid of getting out of the line during the performance. They lose shyness among unknown people, they are not afraid of asking about anything or asking for help. To reach valid research results I consulted them with a musicoterapeud leading the club Little Singers.

Early care for children with disabilities, its significance and evaluation in the Pilsen and South-Bohemia district
FILIPOVÁ, Edita
Early intervention is a very important component of care for children with disabilities; it is vital that parents learn about its importance as soon as possible after the child?s birth or, as soon as possible after having discovered the child´s disability. Contacts on early intervention providers should be easily accessible to parents; if possible, they should be informed on the availability of early intervention by the attending physician. However, this only rarely happens, as is witnessed by the evaluation of the research processed in this thesis. The present thesis deals with the importance and evaluation of early intervention in Pilsen Region and the Region of South Bohemia as seen from the client?s point of view, i.e. from the point of view of the families with children with visual and multiple impairments. The thesis has been divided into a theoretical and a research parts. The first chapter deals with the theoretical basis of early intervention. The notion of early intervention is defined there; further to this, it gives an account of its origin and development, its distribution and legal conditions. The chapter is supplemented by an analysis of early intervention in Pilsen Region and the Region of South Bohemia, on which this work is focused. Further the present thesis discusses the issue of disability, which is closely related to early intervention. It deals with the definition of disability, the causes of its emergence, and it describes different types of disability. It also contains important information for families with children with disabilities. The concluding part of this chapter analyses the position of people with disabilities in the society. The theoretical part of the thesis has been based upon the analysis of available specialist publications and Internet sources. In the research part are defined the objectives and methods of the research, the characteristics of respondents are presented and the case studies published. Analysis and comparison of the data gathered in interviews is an important part of the research. The chapter concludes with the evaluation and conclusions of the research. The present thesis aims to evaluate the service and clients? satisfaction with early intervention service in the two selected regions. The research questions set for the research have been as follows: 1) How did the parents who found themselves in a difficult situation benefited from early intervention? 2) What would be the consequences for the families, should EIC cease to exist? To evaluate the outputs, qualitative research strategy has been chosen. The research group has included 10 families (5 of Pilsen Region and 5 of the Region of South Bohemia). A semi-structured interview has been chosen as the method of the data eliciting. The data have been processed by a qualitative content analysis. As the interviews with parents have shown, early intervention services proved very helpful to all of the families, although initially some of the parents did not know what they should expect. The main benefit everyone saw as the early intervention advisor attending them at home, showing them how to work and play with their child and how to develop its abilities. The parents also appreciated the opportunity to borrow tools and toys that most of them either would be not able to afford to buy or they would not even think such things may be used effectively as toys or tools. Everyone appreciated the psychological support they were provided with as well as the contacts on other specialists and experts; last but not least, they all enjoyed the opportunity to meet other parents. None of the respondents did note any problem nor gave any suggestion on how early intervention as presented to them should be altered or improved. The thesis will be used for the needs of Centres of Early Intervention to assess the provided services and identify those that were the most important to their clients, both former and current.
Business and motherhood in families with a child with a disability
VACKOVÁ, Petra
Motherhood and performing a profession belong to nowadays women?s life. In both cases there can be some deviations. Regarding a professional career comes to a method of operating. This bachelor thesis deals just with entrepreneurship. The deviation in motherhood offers birth of a child with disabilities. Maternity receives unusual and different dimension in this case. The first chapter tries to define motherhood from the very nature of a woman as a mother. It mentions also current trends that affect motherhood. This chapter describes also the concept the mother of a child with disabilities, which includes what this specific motherhood entails. Professional specialization is a part of everyone life today, including women and women mothers. The second chapter analyzes the success of women in the labor market and also mothers who are interested in the job opportunities after maternity leave. Return does not always have to be an easy task for mothers or employers, who may adhere to prejudices. Job opportunities also provide business that fulfills the same function, but offers many additional risks as well as benefits. The chapter also mentions the benefits of working activities for mothers taking care of children with disabilities. Family and its functionality is an inseparable part of the education for children and woman's working activities. The third chapter gives definition of family and its functions and the overall running of a family system. But the family, in which appears a child with a disability, shows some differences from normal families. The constituent part of this chapter about family is a process description of coping with a child with disabilities. Acceptance of some differences is not easy. It's rather difficult critical situation and everyone must solve it on its own. But that is the specific sequence of certain stages followed by the adoption such a child. Last chapter provides a description of a child with disabilities. Each child is an individual. The individuality of children with disabilities is enhanced by the type and extent of disability. A time of disability can also become decisive; age in fact brings a number of specifics stemming from the age. Any child with a disability as well as all children has some mental equipment, which they usually receive from their parents. For children with disabilities is extremely important their surroundings. There are a lot of people who move around the child, members of the family are the most important and then come relatives. But this can be anyone who is in contact with the child. It means their attitude to disability, and also their attitude to a human overall. Based on the knowledge acquired in the theoretical part the best target to find out the conditions and connections of such mothers who this combination successfully in their life realize. The basic research question is established in accordance with the work order. Qualitative research with design case studies has provided the best possible answers to the research question. Semi-structured interviews with two women fulfilling necessary conditions are in-depth and provide piece of interesting information for the research. There are mentioned reports about respondents in the results. The reports are created from extensive interviews in which women described their motherhood with a child with disabilities, entrepreneurship and families. But the most important there were the connections which these facts have between themselves. Typology of handicap children mother´s and character their family environment (analysis be based casuistry´s in the book Celebrity in spite of oneself...)
MĚKUTOVÁ, Petra
The title of my bachelor?s thesis is The Typology of Mothers of Handicapped Children and the Features of their Family Environment (an analysis on the basis of case reports in the book ?Celebrities in spite of their Will...? by Miloš Velemínský). The theoretical part deals with the position of the handicapped in society. I focused, in particular, on how family cope with the birth of a handicapped child and what is the role of a handicapped child?s mother. Further, the approach to this situation by the family, grandparents and friends is discussed. Theoretical part also includes the stance of a child on its handicap and the question of upbringing of a handicapped child. I described the importance of communication with a handicapped child?s family. The aim of this thesis is to discover the motives which led mothers of handicapped children to the result that the care of the handicapped child became the meaning of their life; what motivated them in this respect and what influenced their decisions. The methodology of this thesis is a qualitative research, specifically the analysis of case reports from the book ?Celebrities in spite of their Will...? by Miloš Velemínský. In these analyses, I primarily focused on the facts which led the mothers to bring up their handicapped children at home. Their family and partner lives are described. Further, the ways how the mothers coped with the birth of handicapped children is discussed. In this respect, I also deal with the complications which accompanied them. These complications include, for example, a poor communication with doctors or the absence of support from their close family and friends. The result is a finding why the care of the handicapped children became the meaning of the life of their mothers. All these mothers accept their parental responsibility and love their children that they frequently devote them the whole life. They are strong individuals whose meaning of the life is to provide their children with the possible happiest life. The analyses also compare the family environment, the matrimonial cohabitation, the position of others and the doctors to these families. These facts are very specific in each case report. The support of their families, friends as well as doctors is very important to these mothers. Situations in which some of these aspects were absent are also considered. I have found out that the birth of a handicapped child can positively influence family life values. The research discovered the features of these mothers and reasons why they bring up their handicapped children at home. In particular, these reasons are their parental responsibility and love to their children.
Awareness of Pediatricians and Social Workers on Early Intervention Services
PLÁŠILOVÁ, Dana
The theoretical part includes the demarcation of circumstances in which young children may develop a disability as well as rehabilitation options. Furthermore, it deals with the history and progress of early years care in the Czech Republic. It also touches on the topic of how to impart the adverse diagnosis on parents or how to handle such situations. The results of the study reveal that while the social workers at the department for social matters and healthcare as well as paediatricians in the České Budějovice area are aware of the existence of early years care, they do not pass on this information to families at such a level that they may decide whether or not they wish to make use of these services of early years care. The families at the České Budějovice Early Years Care Centre obtain information about early years care prevalently from specialists in large hospitals. They would appreciate being given this information directly at the maternal ward or hospital where the baby was born, or from their paediatrician
