Adam, Stanislav ; FUXJÄGER, Klaus (advisor) ; JÍCHA, Marek (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the lighting system Cine Reflect Lighting System and its ability to approach the lighting of a scene in a different manner. First part of this thesis summarizes advantages and disadvantages of mirror systems, which can be helpful for cameramen to choose the right lighting technology for their movie. In the second part of thesis I focus on CRLS usage in Michael Haneke movies, especially in his movie The White Ribbon (2009)
Key sequence in the films of directors who work with long sequence shots and with stylization
Ruzyak, Pavel ; BERNARD, Jan (advisor) ; KLEPIKOV, Milan (referee)
This thesis wants to explore long shots alongside with stylization in cinema. Through three directors are explored possibility and problematic of cinematographic expression through long shots and stylization. Stylisation is connected mainly with mis-en-scène and particular aspects of it – acting, film decoration/props, film space, film sound,... The terms stylisation and long shot (plan-séquence) are analysed and explored on its own and in the films of the chosen directors. The main analysed directors are Andrei Tarkovsky, Carl Th. Dreyer and Béla Tarr and their three films (in the same order) - Sacrifice, Gertrud and Satantango. The chosen directors are from my point of view the best example of the use of stylisation and long shots due to their artistic clarity and coherence. I try to base this work mostly on my own analysis and thoughts about long shots and stylisation based on the literature, films and my own film works, although I also use quotations from directors/authors and quotations from theoretical works. The thesis in its form is closest to the analytic and essay study.

Robinson Crusoe - comparison of animated movie and live action movie
Nováková, Hana ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (advisor) ; DUTKA, Edgar (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is comparison between screenwriting for animated film and live action film and a search for differences in both types of writing. Specifically, this thesis compares two films based on the book The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner, by Daniel Defoe. Using this book I am able to describe the possibilities of both literature and film, and to demonstrate which parts of the book are preferred for film adaptation and why. I also briefly mention the evolution of the story of Robinson Crusoe, and show how animation and live action films deal with these changes. In the final part of my thesis I compare the 1954 live action film Robinson Crusoe, directed byLuis Bunuel with the 1981 Czech puppet film The adventure of Robinson Crusoe of York, mariner, directed by Stanislav Látal. Comparing these two films enabled me to understand and describe specific rules and procedures in scriptwriting for an animated film.
Jonas Mekas
Hlaváčková, Hedvika ; POSPISZYL, Tomáš (advisor) ; RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Alice (referee)
The subject of this theses are the films of Lithuanian avant-garde artist, organizator and original interpreter of life, Jonas Mekas. Specifically I'm dealing with the development of his work from the complex film-diaritical sagas to video pieces presented on his web side. I'm exploaring where does he see the diference between the way he captures life and what we call documentary film, what does a reality means to him and how does he get closer to it's essence with the help of his camera. I'm observing how did the recent technical development effected his work - the arrival of video, computers and subsequently internet. I'm trying to understand where does diary-film stand in the frame of history of cinema and where is it's place in the context of the contemporary art scene.
Using real-life performance in animation
Berger, Marek ; PIXA, Libor (advisor) ; KLIMT, Aurel (referee)
In this thesis I analyze and compare the technologies, which are responsible for wiping off the boundaries between animated movies and movies with real-life actors. From the traditional form of rotoscoping to the most recent forms of the performance capture, used mostly for feature trick movies. I do compare these exact, half-automatic methods with some examples of classical animation that also works with pre-acted videoreferences a lot. I give some examples of movies that rely on more or less successful methods and approaches. Instead of technological issues, I focus on the aesthetical approach, such as the animation and the character design in different forms, between the total realism and strong stylization. I point especially on the big problems with transferring the real-life action literally to the animation, and the troubles resulting from this difficult method
Allen, Malick, Coens and their voice-over narration
Klouzová, Sandra ; ČENĚK, Jan (advisor) ; REJHOLEC, Pavel (referee)
The goal of this MA thesis is to point out the legitimacy and specificity of voice-over narration as an expressive device in film. Although it is generally underestimated a priori, voice-over has peculiar qualities which, when put to good use, contribute to establish the intended tone of the film. I document the distinctiveness of this narrative device on analyses of films by Woody Allen, Terrence Malick, and the Coen brothers, who are well-known for incorporating voice-over in their narrative styles.
The Little Man
Máj, Martin ; DĚCKÁ, Eliška (advisor) ; KUBÍČEK, Jiří (referee)
This thesis presents an analysis of the film "Malý Pán" ("The Little Man") directed by Radek Beran. The analysis mostly focuses on the technology used - theatrical puppet in a film. It examines the literary model "Velká cesta Malého pána" ("The Little Man's Great Journey") by Jiří Stach and Lenka Uhlířová, its adaptation into a film screenplay, the screenplay itself, acting of puppets, visible controlling mechanism and finally the visual processing of puppets, animation and overall mise en scene. Alongside with the analysis, several general rules for the use of theatrical puppet in films are defined and illustrated on examples from the "Malý Pán" movie.
Aesthetics of Digital Animation
Náprstek, Marek ; PIXA, Libor (advisor) ; PAVLÁTOVÁ, Michaela (referee)
The thesis deals with aesthetics of computer animation, its evolution and direction. It tries to identify the determining factors of the visual aspect of computer animation and uses examples to compare different approaches pursued by large studios and certain small productions. The work's goal is to explore the reasons behind the continuing uniformity of the genre, which persists despite the fact that computer animation has become technically practically limitless, and offer a prognosis of its future development.
