Patient satisfaction regarding the quality of nursing care administered by the surgical department´s intensive care unit of České Budějovice Hospital, a. s.
JANOUŠKOVÁ, Ludmila
Patient satisfaction regarding the quality of nursing care administered by the surgical department`s intensive care unit of Ceske Budejovice Hospital, a.s. Patient orientation - the effort to comply with his/her requests to achieve his/her satisfaction - is the current trend in health service. The overall satisfaction rate as well as the satisfaction in individual areas of medical care is the important indicator of the quality of care in a hospital. For these reasons patiens are asked to evaluate the quality of medical care. The outcome can be used as the source of suggestions for improving health care quality. The goal of the bachelor`s thesis is to find out the overall satisfaction rate with the nursing care of patiens hospitalized at the surgical department{\crq}s intensive care unit of České Budějovice hospital, a.s.. I set up the hypothesis: The patiens hospitalized at the surgical department{\crq}s intensive care unit of České Budějovice hospital, a.s. are satisfied with the provided nursing care. The research sample consists of patients of the surgical department{\crq}s intensive care unit. The questionnaire method was used. 120 patients were polled and 95 questionnaires were handed in. The final result shows that the vast majority of patiens hospitalized at the surgical department{\crq}s intensive care unit of České Budějovice hospital was very satisfied with provided nursing care. The results of the monitoring of patient satisfaction are a very good feedback for the personnel. Patient satisfaction is directly connected with satisfying patient needs and mutual communication between nurses and patiens. The conclusions of the bachelor{\crq}s thesis will be given to the management of the surgical department, the departmental sister and the nurses at the intensive unit care and can be used for reflection on provided nursing
Biopsychosocial needs of patients hospitalized at ICU
MATYSOVÁ, Jana
The thesis is focused on biopsychosocial needs of patients hospitalized on Intensive Care Unit. The thesis is divided into two parts. Theoretical part of the thesis is focused on satisfying biopsychosocial needs and its problems. This part tries to specify the meaning of satisfying biopsychosiocial needs of patients hospitalized on Intensive Care Unit, because every single patient felt his own needs differently and had different requirements for their satisfying. The aim of this work was being set to find out, if biopsychosocial needs of patients hospitalized on Intensive care unit are being satisfied. In theoretical part of the thesis is described Intensive Care Unit of Žatec hospital, c.s.o. also, where the survey took place. Three hypotheses are set in practical part of the thesis. First hypothesis was "The patients hospitalized on Intensive care unit of Hospital Žatec, c.s.o. don{\crq}t have satisfied their biological needs. Second hypothesis was "Patients hospitalized on Intensive care unit have satisfied their psychological needs." Third hypothesis was "Patients hospitalized on Intensive care unit have satisfied their social needs."
Comparison of post-operation course in women after abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy and after laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
HUDÁ, Zuzana
The bachelor thesis is divided to two parts (theoretical and practical). In the theoretical section I engage with three kindes of hysterectomy, with its indications, complications and with the following treatment of the patient after the intervention. I further desribe the psyche of the patient and her life after the operation. Hypthesises and goals have been set in the practical section of this work. I tried to disprove or aprove these hypothesises on the basis of research. It follows from the outcome of the research that the postoperative condition after hysterectomy differes individualy from patient to patient.
Orientation nurses to clients´needs or the technical equipment and the parameters ot the clients as a nursing problem
HOUSEROVÁ, Renata
Focus of nurses on clients' needs, technical equipment and client´s parameters as a nursing staff problem. People´s needs can be satisfied individually in different ways, depending on each person´s age, sex and disease, so that this disadvantage can be correctly and adequately removed and relieved with the aim to ensure a quality life of a particular person. The objective of this thesis was to find out the difference between the satisfaction of the clients´ needs in the Long-term care units and Intensive care units. Then it was necessary to recognize the nurses´ focus on the clients´ needs at these units, and to discover how the nurses actively identify and satisfy these individual needs of the clients. In this study we focused on both physiological and psychosocial needs which the nurses try to satisfy using nursing processes. The research was conducted by means of a qualitative research using interviews and hidden monitoring. The clients and nurses from the hospital in Tábor were interviewed, and the interviews were completed and verified by observation. The nurses´ focus on the needs and the satisfaction of the needs is dependent on the unit, which made the greatest difference based on the findings of this study. The nurses from the Intensive care unit shall always satisfy basic physiological needs of the clients without seeing in it any extra work. However, they do not satisfy the clients´ psychosocial needs as it is a short-term hospitalization, and the psychosocial needs are not priority at the given moment, therefore, the nurses may postpone them for a later time. On the other hand, the nurses from the Long-term care unit, which is a long-term hospitalization, shall satisfy both physiological and psychosocial needs, when the clients admitted to the unit are not at risk for life any more. Here higher needs such as safety and surety have to be satisfied, and the nurses of this unit deal with them more intensively than the nurses of the Intensive care units. This research resulted in the fact that each unit has its own specificity in satisfying the needs of its clients, which stems from the actual health of a client. Therefore, the nurses shall always take into consideration the health of the diseased client, ensure that the physiological needs of the client are met, and in addition they shall satisfy the higher needs which are priority at that moment.
Problems of communication barriers by patients with tracheotomy in intensive care units
POLÍVKOVÁ, Eva
The thesis is aimed at the problems of communication barriers in patients with tracheotomy at intensive care units. Communication is the basis of nursing care and nursing process is based on partnership relation between a nurse and a patient. Everybody who wants to communicate sometimes faces problems, obstacles complicating his/her interpersonal communication. Recognition of these obstacles is the first step leading to their overcoming. Tracheostomy disqualifies the glottal function and patients are not able to communicate by means of speech. Such a situation is new for the patients and is also very stressing, which is why these patients have to be paid extra attention and these problems have to be dealt with. The aims of the work and the hypotheses were focused on the area of communication barriers, but also on adherence to the effective communication principles and alternative ways of communication. The goal was to find mutual dependence between the individual variables. Quantitative research extended by qualitative research was used for reaching the goals. An important relation was proven in hypothesis number two upon the results of statistic examination. The fact that the communication barriers perceived by a nurse depend on the character of the department where the nurse works was found. Some relation was also proven in hypothesis number eight, which examined dependence of alternative ways of communication on the character of the hospital department. No dependence relation was found in the other hypotheses. An analysis of results obtained from nurses and from patients showed us that nurses realize many more communication barriers in patients than patients themselves. A hypothesis expressing a relation between selection of an alternative communication method and the overall patient condition arose from the qualitative research.
Manager's role in nursing staff in the intensive car unit.
ŠKULINOVÁ, Iveta
The theoretical part of the thesis introduces the current state of the issue. The fundamentals of management, the three basic lines of health managers and their functions and roles are described first. Another section is devoted to the specifics of nursing care in the intensive care unit. The second part is focused on qualified nurses, their qualification, duties and the role, factors of satisfaction and difficulties of the care for patients in the intensive care unit. The last part deals with problems occurring in exercise of the nursing profession and with the assistance of a manager in dealing with these problems. Five objectives were established. Objective 1: To identify what nurses working in intensive care units need to be satisfied in their work. Objective 2: To map the form of support to the nursing team in the ICU from the perspective of managers. Objective 3: To point out possibilities of increase in job satisfaction of nurses working in intensive care units. Objective 4: To identify motivational factors for nurses working in intensive care units. Objective 5: To determine if there are obstacles preventing managers from supporting the nursing team. Qualitative research was selected to collect the data and 6 research questions were established. Research question No.1: What do nurses working in ICU need to be satisfied in their profession? Research question No.2: Do nurses working in ICU perceive any difference in position of a nurse working in an ICU and a nurse working in a standard unit? Another question No.3: What are the means used by the management to support the nursing team in ICU? Question No. 4: What are the possibilities of increasing work satisfaction of nurses working in ICU? Question No. 5: Which specific motivational factors are involved in satisfaction of nurses working in ICU? Research question No. 6: Which obstacles prevent managers from supporting the nursing team? Non-standardized interviews were conducted with 8 ward nurses and 12 nurses working in shifts who were employed in intensive care units of surgical or internal departments. Answers to the established research questions were formed based on analysis of the results. Results can be provided to managers in health care facilities and to nurses working in intensive care units.
Issues related to nursing process utilized with tracheostomized patients in Intensive Care Units.
FIEDLEROVÁ, Miroslava
Breathing is an integral part of the life as such. Some illnesses or injuries may endanger this necessity of life or make it start to fail. In such cases, the organisms in question face possible death. Up-to-date medicine allows to solve such issues by way of artificial ventilation of the lungs. Improvements in medicine and medical technologies have made the group of the states that require securing the airways and artificial ventilation of the lungs grow bigger. Free and unobstructed airways are the fundamental prerequisites for securing efficient ventilation. The aim of the thesis was to determine the most frequent issues faced by the nursing staff while taking care of the patients with tracheostomy cannula, and also to find out what tools are used by the said staff while communicating with such patients. Furthermore, the theses focused on finding out what procedures are utilized by the nursing staff so that tracheostomy cannula contamination is avoided. There was carried out a qualitative survey by way of two structured interviews. The first one was made with ten nurses picked at random who work in the Intensive Care Units of surgery and internal medicine departments and in the department of anesthesiology and resuscitation. The second interview was made with ten tracheostomized patients picked at random in the same departments. The outcome of the interviews shows that communication remains the biggest problem for both, the patients and the nursing staff. Further, the survey proved the nurses followed the prescribed standards concerning the maintenance of the tracheostomy cannula. The interviews with the patients revealed that food and fear of a cannula getting obstructed with consequent suffocating count among their biggest issues. The objectives of the thesis have been met. The outcome of the survey will be submitted to the collaborating departments and the results may be utilized to improve the nursing care for people with trachostomy cannula. It is recommended to educate and train nurses in communication techniques and rehabilitation provided to the ill. The best possible solution would be to arrange and organize a training dealing with such issues which would be meant for nurses. It is also recommended to establish a research concerning prevention of nosocomial infection in patients with tracheostomy cannulas.
