Assessment of Vaccination Coverage Against Influenza among Students of the University of South Bohemia in the České Budějovice
RUDKOVÁ, Eva
This thesis deals with the evaluation of vaccination against influenza among students of University of South Bohemia, their opinions and their approach to the issue of vaccination against influenza. The theoretical part is focused on historical, clinical, diagnostic, virological, immunological and epidemiological aspects of influenza vaccine development and vaccination against influenza. The aim of the practical part was to determine how widespread is influenza vaccination among students of University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, map their opinion on the vaccination and to assess their awareness regarding vaccination against influenza and influenza in general. For research purposes a questionnaire survey was distributed among students of the University of South Bohemia. The selection of respondents was conducted by stratified random selection so that it covered approximately 5% occupancy of each faculty. This research preceded a preliminary research to determine the suitability of the chosen method of data collection. As a data collection instrument was chosen the method of questioning by the form of questionnaires. Quota for the research was to study the respondents at the South Bohemian University and studied faculty. In total 468 questionnaires were evaluated. The results of the research shows that students of University of South Bohemia underestimate vaccination, and most of them have never been vaccinated against this disease. In spite of this is, the results show that the awareness of students is good and among faculties except the Faculty of Health and Social Care, there is not a significant difference. Faculty of Health and Social achieved in the overall awareness significantly higher result than other faculty. Thus confirming the hypothesis that there are differences between students' awareness of the Health and Social faculty and students of other faculties. The aim of this thesis is to alert students of the University of South Bohemia about the pros of influenza vaccination and increase their awareness in this area.
Analysis of the flu pandemic in the South Bohemian Region
HUDEČKOVÁ, Kateřina
In the thesis there are chronologically processed data about incidence of influenza Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 from its first incidence in spring 2009 in Mexico until the official end of the 6th phase of pandemic announced by the WHO in august 2010. These data were collected by means of secondary analysis. The thesis is focused on the Region of South Bohemia from the first proved incidence of Pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009 here. The data necessary to meet the objectives of the work and to answer the research questions were collected in cooperation with the Regional Hygienic Station of the South Bohemia in České Budějovice. 3 deaths were analysed in the context of incidence of Pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009 in the Region of South Bohemia and anti-epidemic measures were assessed. Differences in 121 people with Pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009 in the Region of South Bohemia from the point of view of age and sex were described. In 52 people with the flu from the Region of South Bohemia ?traveller? history was recorded (these people were infected during their stays abroad) and most of them had stayed in Germany. Indicators of morbidity (ARI) in the Region of South Bohemia and in the whole Czech Republic were also processed and then graphically compared.
Preparation of the pandemic plan - the course of the influenza pandemy caused by the Pandemic A (H1N1) 2009 virus in the Pilsen region.
VELKOBORSKÁ, Marcela
An influenza is an illness annually affecting 5-15 percent of the world population. During the influenza pandemy 40-50 percent of world population can be affected and millions of people can die.The measures resulting from the pandemic plans help to limit the influenza virus spreading, to reduce morbidity and mortality. In April 2009 the first cases of the flue pandemic caused by Pandemic A (H1N1) 2009 virus occurred on the American continent, in the Czech Republic there was the first case registered in May, in the Pilsen region in July. Based on these facts I decided to assess the pandemic plans at the level of the Pilsen region and to analyse the course of the pandemy in the Pilsen region too. Having studied the Pandemic plan of the Pilsen region and the Pandemic plan of the Regional Hygiene Station of the Pilsen Region I got to the conclusion that in case of the pandemy caused by the highly virulent tribe of the influenza it would not be possible to use up the pandemic plans efficiently. The disadvantages concern mainly the way of the distribution of the pandemic vaccine and antivirotics. The other disadvantage is the absence of a parenteral form of antivirotics. A bad awarness of the inhabitants also came out effecting mass rejection of vaccination by the pandemic vaccine and preventative taking antivirotics. The analyse of the course of the pandemy in the Pilsen region proved that at many patients with the flue pandemic there was present a risky factor of more serious course of the influenza in the anamnesis. If these patients had been vaccinated by the pandemic vaccine they had been entitled for, they could have been protected against this illness, for some of them the vaccination might have meant life-saving. It was also proved that originally the pandemic tribe of Pandemic A (H1N1) 2009 virus became the causer of the common seasonal influenza in the season of 2010-2011.

The work will also deal with the effect of vaccination. The main objective of the presented diplom thesis is the evaluation of the economic consequences related to its outbreak.
Protective Factors Influencing the Use of Nasal Hygiene Products.
KROUPOVÁ, Veronika
This diploma thesis is a loose continuation of the bachelor thesis titled Impact of the Advertising Campaign on the Sales of Products of Pharmaceutical Companies and its Impact on the Consumer. The theoretical part was appropriately expanded to include new findings mentioned in modern literature in order to identify all protective factors that may affect the use or purchase of nasal hygiene products. Attention is paid to the associated processes such as marketing, marketing communications and consumer behavior of the customer. In connection with the subsequent analysis health issues are also mentioned. In the practical part, the success rate of individual advertising campaigns in the years 2007 - 2010 on Nasivin and Sterimar in connection with sales that occur subsequent to influenza, non- influenza diseases and allergic diseases morbidity in the population of the Czech Republic is evaluated. Buying habits of a customer ? a possible Nasivin consumer, what medication he/she uses to treat rhinitis, and what brands of nasal decongestants he/she knows are analyzed. In connection with the product Nasivin and Sterimar, the relationship of a customer and a pharmacist, with regard to the product brand and practices in recommendations, is analyzed. The data were obtained from several sources. The company Merck Serono provided me with information on advertising campaigns and sales results in 2007 - 2010. The market research agency Median provided the data for the target customer analysis. The third data source was the agency STEM / MARK, from which I received background data on consumers' buying habits and practices of pharmacists when recommending products. The fourth source of data was the State Institute of Public Health with information relating to respiratory and allergic diseases. By the carried out analysis a close correlation between the sale of products and the occurrence of respiratory diseases, but not allergic diseases, was proved. The company knows well how to target customers and their needs and it respects the products seasonality. It should focus primarily on acquiring new customers and stop the existing customers´ move to competition. In the discussion and the conclusion the issues of health, the Czech health care system and the prevention of civilization-related diseases are mentioned.
Creation of pandemic plan for medical institutions
VLAS, Vlastimil
The aim of this B.A. level is to analyse the risk of creation of a pandemic caused by a new influenza virus. This academic paper particularly discusses the fact whether hospitals are prepared for emergency situations when the number of hospitalised persons is rising enormously. This thesis introduces and analyses the Czech National Pandemic Preparedness Plan, as well as the plan relating to the South Bohemia Region with respect to the fact that every state is obliged to have its pandemic preparedness plans. Furthermore, the thesis attempts to ascertain whether these plans are in compliance with proposals and measures introduced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Union. WHO has been monitoring the influenza virus since the end of World War II. For this monitoring, WHO has been using the influenza preparedness programmes. Due to these programmes we may be able to foresee the creation of pandemic to certain extent. However, despite the facts mentioned above, the risks still remain on a rather high level since for example in South-East Asia, contamination of humans via the bird flu is quite common. Some sources believe that if a new influenza pandemic occurs in the world, it will break out exactly in South-East Asia, and therefore it is necessary to monitor this location carefully. Furthermore, this thesis focuses on describing the influenza virus, what structure it has, and, in particular, what difficulties it causes to humans. In the Czech Republic, seasonal influenza is quite common in relation to which basic differences in the symptoms are also discussed in this paper. The thesis subsequently focuses on the description of the treatment for both seasonal influenza, as well as bird flu since they differ significantly. Nowadays, also the issue of influenza vaccination is being discussed quite often. It is necessary to state that vaccination is not suitable for all citizens and that it may not protect us from a pandemic caused by new influenza virus. In this thesis, the expression ``influenza pandemic`` has been explained and plans of substantial importance playing the role of measures preventing the creation of pandemic have been described. Furthermore, an analysis of the Czech National Pandemic Preparedness Plan, with special focus on the South Bohemia Region, has been carried out. It is a well-known fact that the first occurrence and the most afflicted area of the bird flu virus in 2006 (the infected swan) was in the České Budějovice area.
Analysis of interest of medical workers in vaccination against influenza in the hospital Rudolfa and Stefanie in Benešov.
ZEMANOVÁ, Irena
This diploma thesis is focused on analyzing the interest of health professionals in vaccination against influenza in the Hospital of Rudolf and Stefanie in Benešov. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part processes, in a complex way, the available knowledge about the history of influenza epidemiology and disease prevention with the emphasis on vaccination. The processing of this part used monographic publications, scientific articles from professional journals and electronic resources. In the empirical part, the opinions and attitudes of health workers to vaccination against influenza were analyzed. The research group consisted of health professionals from the Hospital of Rudolf and Stefanie in Benešov. In my thesis, I set two objectives. The first objective was to map the interest of health professionals in vaccination against influenza. The other objective was to find the main reason for the lack of interest in such vaccination. This part was processed using quantitative research. Using charts, I evaluated statistically the data which was obtained in a questionnaire survey. At the end of this section, the obtained results were discussed and some measures were proposed. The main proposal to address the identified deficiencies is to train health professionals and inform them about potential health consequences of influenza for their patients and for themselves.
The impact of the advertising campaign on the sales of products of pharmaceutical companies and its impact on the consumer.
KROUPOVÁ, Veronika
The bachelor thesis is divided into two parts. In the first one, using secondary literature, I dealt with marketing, advertising and related processes. I have further described factors influencing consumer behaviour. In connection to the analysis of data I have briefly described the health issue. In the second part I have evaluated the success of advertising campaigns of the firm Merck Serono in 2007 and 2008 in sales of nasal drops Nasivin in connection to acute respiratory infections, which was the aim of this paper. I have analyzed the end consumer of the product Nasivin. I researched his socio-demographic profile, life style, psychological profile of how the consumer can be influenced by media. I collected the data from three sources. The firm Merck Serono provided data on advertising campaigns and the results of sales in 2007 and 2008. The market research agency Median provided the data for analysis of the end consumer. The National Institute of Public Health was the third source of data providing information on the course of acute respiratory diseases. By means of the applied analysis it was not possible to clearly determine the success or failure of the campaigns. I have determined the characteristics of the end consumer. The firm applies all necessary forms of promotion, complies with the needs of the end consumers, and is able to make a good timing of the season character of the product being in close relationship to the distribution of acute respiratory diseases. To evaluate the benefit of advertising campaigns I have recommended to analyze the advertising campaigns also in the next years and to aim the campaigns at gaining new customers. The work of agents should be intensified in order to support the co-operation with the customer-specialist. Further recommendations concerned the motives of promotion of sales and communication with media and further ways oriented on the customer-consumer. In the discussion and in the conclusion I have mentioned the health issue, the Czech health care system and prevention of civilization diseases.
Influenza and its etiological agens - virus of many faces
KUČEROVÁ, Olga
This thesis deals with the problem of influenza and other respiratory infections. Influenza is one of the most common infectious diseases, which affect 10 % of population each year and during pandemics even 40-50 %. It is often mistaken with common respiratory infections, which mostly have a mild course. This thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. Theoretical part describes the history of influenza and mentions previous pandemics of flu. Further it contains epidemiological characteristics of influenza, deals with vaccination against this disease and we can also find there the explanation of terms such as epidemics, pandemics or between pandemic periods. The thesis contains main differences between influenza and other respiratory infections. The last chapter is composed of brief information of bird flu. In practical part the following aim and hypotheses were stated. The aim of the thesis was to find out the South Moravian region inhabitants´ informedness of differences between influenza and other respiratory infections. I stated two hypotheses. The first hypothesis presumes that the population is interested in the problem of respiratory infections and influenza. The second hypothesis reads: Population does not have true information of differences between influenza and other respiratory infections. To process this thesis I used quantitative research which was carried out by the method of questioning using the questionnaires. It is the most used means of data collection because it enables to provide a big amount of empirical data in a relatively short time. The questionnaire contained 18 questions. I distributed 130 questionnaires, but I could include only 109 complete questionnaires in the research. All results were processed in the form of graphs. After data evaluation both my hypotheses were proved. First hypothesis proved that people are interested in given problem; however women are more interested than men. The second hypothesis was also proved. The research proved unfamiliarity with the differences between influenza and other respiratory infections.
PROBLEMS OF PANDEMIC OF INFLUENZA CAUSED BY A NEW VARIETY OF VIRUS AND APPROACHES TO ITS SOLVING WITHIN CZECH REPUBLIC
TEJČKA, Luděk
I have chosen the subject of this work because I am very interested in the flu issue. One of the reasons also was a huge interest in pandemic flu which makes me think a lot and raises loads of questions. The theoretical part deals especially with the flu issue and categorization of its various sorts: seasonal flu, bird flu and pandemic flu. The theoretical part also includes basic facts about the preparedness of the Czech Republic for a pandemic flu. It mentions the most important laws and legal rules that determine procedures of the government authorities and other institutions of the Czech Republic in the pandemic flu prevention.
