New quay - hidden potential Svitava drive in Brno

The diploma thesis deals with an urban and architectural design of a stretch of area along the Svitava raceway and the Ponávka river in Brno, specifically of the locality in the area where the Svitava raceway has already merged with the Ponávka river. The area is situated south of the city centre, in the cadastral maps of Komárov and partly Trnitá. The main objective of the thesis is to find the potential and capacity of the Svitava raceway concerning redevelopment and creation of new municipal areas, especially in the form of embankments designated for pedestrians and cyclists. The design also focuses on the redevelopment and on finding a new suitable functional utilization of the area. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the urban development of the city, its history and the development of Brno region as well as of the rivers in its district. It examines and analyses the prerequisites of the area affecting the design. Complete description and specifications of the proposed design are to be found here. The drawing part deals with the graphic analysis of the area as well as the concretization of the prerequisites influencing the design and it solves the complete urban design accompanied with the detailed local views of the area.

The thesis main objective is to find the potential and capacity of the Svitava raceway concerning redevelopment and creation of new public areas, especially in the form of embankments designated for pedestrians. The design also focuses on redevelopment and finding new suitable functional utilization, in particular of the industrial buildings and premises of the former plant Mosilana. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the urban development of the city, its history and the development of Brno region as well as rivers in its district. The subject of the diploma thesis is a study of the urban design of Old Morava river waterfront in Hodonin. The thesis is divided into 3 parts. The first part contains a literature research relating to the general design of urban waterfronts. The second part is aimed at the analysis of the area in terms of wider relations, functional use, natural conditions and a local history. The complex synthesis defines the main issues, current values and the basis for the design part. The design part is partly based on the analysis of the previous development as well as the historical context that became a source of inspiration when designing the waterfront area. It takes into account both the history of local fishing villages and the original direction of the Morava river. In general, the study aims to integrate the river into the life of the city, to connect the river with the surrounding countryside, to make both banks more accessible and more attractive for the functional as well as the recreational use.

Diplomní projekt - Nábřeží Vltavy v historickém centru Prahy z pohledu krajinářského architekta

The main goal of the diploma thesis was review of Prague riverfront situation, its adjustment possibilities and the priorities that should be respected in case of the adaptation of this area by the landsape architect. These general proposition have been verified on a specific project. Author has chosen a model area at the left bank of river Vltava, which is currently in many aspects dysfunctional or visually problematic, although it belongs to the legacy of national importance. The center of area is defined by the square Klárov which is inappropriately isolated from the Prague unique phenomenon, Vltava river. Its significance was described many times and requires interdisciplinar acces with respect for characteriistics of wider area. Chapter, which deals with analyzes a design has been processed into the well-arranged blocks of diagrams, drafts, cross sections and visualizations. Architectural design aspires to the contemporary expression of historical facts in the form of artistic elements and threds (see stylisation of the stream Brusnice or application of the terraced Italian gardens principles) as well as to the user orientated access in the particular areas and the district of the Lesser Town.
