Nurses´ Influence on Regimen of Breast-Feeding Mothers
HARANTOVÁ, Klára
Abstract Breastfeeding has been given a close attention in the last decade so the awareness of nursing mothers and health care staff seem to be sufficient. However, latest surveys have disclosed the necessity of further education of both groups and the need to cooperate closely. This Bachelor work is focused on healthy diet of nursing mothers as well as the impact of education and midwives´ behaviour towards the mothers on making healthy food choices while breastfeeding. The aim of this work was to find out the ways of nursing mothers´ nutrition and to map the benefits of education centred on healthy diet. The work is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The first one deals with historical views of postpartum and lactation periods, the trends in nursing mothers´ nutrition, the education provided by midwives and lactation consultancy. The latter part analyses survey information. A quantitative research technique, an anonymous questionnaire, was used for getting required information. There were 128 questionnaires given to respondents and 103 of them were brought back. The survey was carried out in the paediatric consulting rooms in Strakonice, Volyně and an obstetric department in Strakonice. The findings confirmed the hypothesis that nursing mothers maintain healthy diet while breastfeeding, mostly thanks to information provided by midwives. The findings of the research survey, as a source of appropriate information, could be afforded to midwives of in-patient and out-patient departments so that the education of nursing mothers can be spread and improved.
Analysis of diet habits in seniors by means of the NutriDan programme
KLEPALOVÁ, Michaela
The Bachelor thesis deals with the topic of ``Analysis of diet habits in seniors by means of the NutriDan programme{\crqq}. Older age brings physiological modification in organism, physical activity decreases and modification of diet habits is necessary in the view of these factors. An individual should be aware of the fact that energy intake and output should be in balance. My thesis is aimed at examination of diet habits among seniors by means of the NutriDan programme. A person of 65 plus is considered a senior. The thesis is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part includes information on diet principles in elderly age, factors affecting the diet condition, diseases related to food income and further information linked to diet and physical activity of seniors. The quantitative research method was used for the research part. Questionnaires were spread among seniors living in a rest home, seniors living in families with their children and seniors having their own households. The research part was compiled upon responses from 112 seniors who had filled in the questionnaires on their diet habits. 65 per cent of the research participants were women, 36 per cent were men. Two 24-hour foot and drink intake charts were included in the questionnaires, one for a weekday (Friday) and the other for a Sunday. The amounts of food taken, the drink intake and physical activity were entered into the charts. The evaluation of the charts has shown that the energy intake exceeds the recommended standard for 71 % of the seniors on a weekday and at a weekend this number increases to 77 %. 42 % of the respondents are overweight and 52 % think they eat right. The first goal was to find whether the food energy value corresponds to the age and physique of an individual. Hypothesis 1 is that the energy value corresponds to the age and physique of an individual. The second goal was whether seniors adhere to the drink intake. Hypothesis 2 is that seniors adhere to the drink intake. The third goal of the thesis was to find whether the proportion of fat, sugar and proteins corresponds to the age and physique of an individual. Hypothesis 3 is that the proportion of fat, sugar and proteins corresponds to the age and physique of an individual. The fourth goal of the thesis was to find whether the fat content in the food meets the recommended standard (<30 grams per day). Hypothesis 4 is that the fat content in the food meets the recommended daily standard. There are some interesting results arising from the thesis. Only one hypothesis, namely Hypothesis 2 {--}seniors adhere to the drink intake was confirmed. All the other hypotheses were refuted. This work may help seniors change their lifestyle. It provides basic information regarding diet, drink intake and physical activity. The work may be used by nurses in teaching right diet habits to elderly people.

LEOPOLDOVÁ, Lenka
The topic of my thesis is {\clqq}Application of education plans to care of diabetics``. Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by a disorder of metabolism of sugars, but also proteins and fats, which leads to increased glycaemia and glycosuria. Education is understood as guiding to independent coping with diabetes and better cooperation with medical staff. It is an inevitable and irreplaceable part of successful diabetes treatment. The thesis is aimed at mapping application of educational plans to care of diabetics. The thesis has a theoretical and a research parts. The theoretical part deals with information on diabetes mellitus, education in general and its specifics for diabetics. The research part involves a quantitative data collection method, namely observation and semi standardized interview. The research took place in a diabetology centre and in a diabetologist{\crq}s office. 10 diabetics, 6 men and 4 women participated. The observation was performed during a diabetic{\crq}s visit to a diabetologist{\crq}s office and involved 18 points divided into 7 areas aimed at the education process phase, education implementation form, education forms, diabetic{\crq}s theoretical and practical skills, educational environment and others. Interviews were performed after the medical consultations. The interview contained 37 questions, 18 of which offered choice of reply and possibility to ask an additional question. The remaining 19 questions were open. The interview questions focused on treatment regime, satisfaction, knowledge and skills of diabetics. The first goal was to find out how education benefits a diabetic. The second goal was to map whether diabetics can use the obtained information and skills in their everyday life. The third goal was to learn about educational forms and methods used by the diabetologist and in the diabetology centre. The fourth goal was to create an educational plan and test it in practice. The goals of the thesis were met. All the research questions were answered. The research part thus shows that education is beneficial for diabetics, they apply the obtained information and skills to their lives, the educational methods and forms are identical in the diabetology centre and at the diabetologist. The thesis may be utilized as evaluation of effectiveness of education performed for diabetics and the basic content of diabetes mellitus and education.
Midwife´s role in edukation of women with gestacional diabetes mellitus
PERNÍKOVÁ, Hana
Gestational diabetes mellitus is a disorder of saccharide tolerance which is diagnosed for the first time during pregnancy and usually disappears after the delivery. As non-diagnosed gestational diabetes mellitus can affect the fetus and influence subsequent delivery and post-delivery complications resulting from diabetic fetopathy of the newbom, a proactive screening of gestational diabetes is necessary during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes treatment using a special diet or low doses of insulin is not successful unless the woman is properly and systematically educated. The Bachelor Thesis called "Midwifes Role in Education of Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus" was aimed at examining the ways in which midwives participate in education of women with gestational diabetes. The research was made using qualitative method and it was carried out through non-standardized interviews with midwives working with women suffering from gestational diabetes, and with a group of women with gestational diabetes. Four research objectives and five research questions were determined. The interviews were conducted during February and March 2010 in selected hospitals in the Czech Republic. lnterviews with women with gestational diabetes revealed differences in midwife s participation in the educational process. Women who were hospitalized during their pregnancy were only provided minimum information by the midwives. ln those cases, education was completely assumed by diabetes centres. Women who were at least once hospitalized during their pregnancy perceived the midwives as educators whom they could contact for assistance. Out of all educational materials, midwives only used text materials. None of them recommended websites. The midwives educational methods inc1uded explaining, instructing and discussion. They draw up dietary plans for women with gestational diabetes based on their own experience or educational materials provided by diabetologists. Research results showed that midwives rely very much on educating the women in diabetes centres. Based on information obtained from interviews with midwives in the other hospitals, I have drawn up an educational leaflet for women with gestational diabetes. This leaflet can be used as educational material in the antenatal-care unit of a hospital. In this way, midwives can provide women with important first information after telling them the diagnose to help them get over the period prior to visiting the diabetes centre.
Counseling for women in climacteric.
GALLASOVÁ, Martina
Climacterium is a period of the woman´s life when it comes, little by little, to the loss of the ovary function. The begin of this period is different with individual women and may be affected by some factors, as for instance by experienced illnesses, nourishment condition or by family disposition. Symptomatology of the diseases connected with climactorium may be various, but it need not appear with all women to the full extent. Therefore, the consulting service is very important for the women in the period of climacterium. A woman well informed about the possible menopausal symptoms, about medical or alternative possibilities concerning the influence of undesirable menopausal diseases and also the precautionary programmes preventing the development of heavy illnesses will be better prepared for the coming climacterium and will be able to live this period of life in equanimity and piece. The theoretic part of the work provides basic information about the problems of climacterium. It deals with the explication of the term climacterium, its individual phases, with etiopatogenesis and endocrinology of menopause, with symptomatology, diagnostics, therapy and with the style of life in the climacterium period. In the practical part, the informedness level of women concerning the climacterium problems was examined.
Nutritional quality evaluation of school dinners and monitoring of food habits and their changes at children in age category seven till twelve years
HLAVATÝ, Miroslav
The diploma paper aims to appraise the composition of menu offered to pupils aged seven to twelve attending the Elementary School (ES) based in Suché Vrbné, a quarter of České Budějovice. The menu was assessed for its contents of macronutrients and a range of chosen micronutrients considered to meet nutritional demands of school children. The research covered 64 examinees (of both sexes) from the second, fourth and sixth grades, and was organized as a test of their dietary habits and physical a tivities. The paper deals with: -Nutritional quality of school lunches; -Weights and statures of children from the relevant grades measured at the beginning and the end of the appraised span of time, with the observed changes evaluated; -Average cost spent to prepare one lunch; -Variety of the food and the numbers of specific dishes taken in a month; -Adherence to the recommended alimentary basket; -Weights of the different components of lunches; -Nutritional test designed to examine dietary habits and physical activities of c ildren aged 7 to 12; -Changes in the diet of children moving up to the senior stage of the Elementary School; -Formulating hypotheses focused on drinking regimen, Body Mass Index (BMI) and physical activities. Percentage of nutrients derived from lunch, represent the proportion of recommended daily intake for the day. The ideal figure of 35 % of the recommended daily energy intake was achieved only in girls of the 4th grade. The other categories of boys and girls ranged between 5 % and 9 %. As regards proteins, these were supplied in the above-the-limit quantities to the 2nd and 4th graders, while the 6th graders received 79,65 % to 82% of the recommended daily intake. Fats kept at the optimal level of 30 % to 35 %. Saccharides stayed at the low level of 19 % to 24,69 % for the entire time of monitoring. Fiber was found to maintain the acceptable level of 29 % to 37,41 %. As regards the macroelements, calcium supply was insufficient - at 15,0 % to 18,46 % only a small portion of what is desirable. Magnesium intake was at 41,86 % to 59,1 %. Potassium reached on average 53,6 % to 59,66 %. As to microelements, iron was supplied at 42,37 % to 48,91 %; zinc at 41,15 % to 52,91 %; selenium at 59,1 % to 175,21 %. Vitamin A reached 60,78% to 89,23 %; vitamin E was at 38,66 % to 55.1%, and vitamin C at 58,81 % to 66,0 %. Vitamin B6 was supplied in the quantity of 38,50 % o 47,83 %. Vitamins B6 and B12 were supplied in above-the-standard quantities for the whole monitored period. Measurements of weights and statures were related to the age and then used to calculated the BMI - thus one 2nd grade girl was found overweight and one boy and another girl of the same grade were found obese. Pupils of the 4th grade kept within the optimal figures. In the 6th grade two girls and four boys registered overweight. Expressed in percentages, the research has showed that in the 7 to 12 age bracket 3.2% of children were obese and 9.15 overweight. The average cost of lunch preparation was 42 CZK. The numbers of specific dishes were revealed inadequate for pulses and fish. The share of fruit was duly met while vegetables were insufficient. Low was observed also the proportion of milk and sweet & meatless dishes. Conversely, the frequency of dishes made of chicken and pork was excessive. Yeast and pulse soups were served optimally, as suggested by the Ministry of Health. Inspection carried out in view of the alimentary basket specified in Decree 107/2005 disclosed these values as average for the entire period of interest: meat 92,9 %; fish 69,4%; milk 54.8 %; milk products 72.9 %. Fats were supplied at the level of 69,3 %; sugar 46 %; vegetables 59.9%; fruit 124%; potatoes 87,4 %; and pulses 54,4 %.
