ALCOHOLISM AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE HOME VIOLENCE
The Issue of Domestic Violence in connection with the act (number ) 135/2006
STŘELCOVÁ, Hana
Domestic violence has been an urgent problem also in the Czech Republic. The necessity to solve its complexity upon level of the state, not only through non governmental, non-profit-making institutions, is especially expressed by adopting Act No.135/2006 Collection of Laws, by which some acts in scope of domestic violence protection are amended. This Act allows the Police of the Czech Republic to banish an offender committing domestic violence from mutual residence for a period of 10 days and the Act has established a new social service the so called ``Intervention Centre{\crq}q, i.e. a specialized facility that provides help with people who are endangered by domestic violence. The objective was to find out the level of public awareness, knowledge of the Intervention Centres in the Moravia-Silesian and Pilsen Regions. Within the first year of that Act operating, there were the least banished offenders v. s. number of inhabitants, just in the Pilsen Region and there were the most ones in the Moravia-Silesian Region. The theoretical work part describes forms of violence in the family, historical relationship of violent actions with women, possibilities how to prevent them or advised help measures to victims of domestic violence. Further, it is focussed on a legislative solution of that problem area in the Czech Republic and some of European countries or the USA as well. The practical work part involves results of a quantity research that was aimed to discovery of public awareness of the Intervention Centres. The research was performed by method of questioning in a way of a questionnaire. The research was focussed on consciousness of general public relating to domestic violence, whether the research respondents have ever met that phenomenon or what is their opinion on information effectiveness of the problem area. The research demonstrated low awareness of the Intervention Centres of inhabitants in both regions. However, most respondents know what domestic violence is. Nearly one third of interviewees have got certain experience with domestic violence. Majority of respondents consider the information on the Intervention Centres and domestic violence as generally useful. This work may be used to increase public awareness of the Intervention Centres or on the other side to provide the Intervention Centres employees with general public{\crq}s reflection as to availability and activity of the Intervention Centres.

MAROUŠKOVÁ, Barbora
This thesis focuses on the public opinion on single mothers in emergency conditions in Český Krumlov region. The theoretical part defines single mother and single parent family. The fact that in many European countries the numbers of single parent families is increasing is stressed out. The theoretical part describes the changes in models of family behavior have been experienced in the last decades and factors which influence them. Also, basic facts on single families in the Czech Republic are presented e.g. female or male single parent family, their age, reasons for single family, social status, numbers and percentage of children born to single parents within last twenty years etc. In addition particular reasons of becoming a single mother are explained e.g. divorce, single parenting, becoming a widow. A phenomenon of domestic violence is closely related to the subject of single mother, therefore it is dealt with here too. The theoretical part conclusion shows principal reasons which cause that single mothers get into emergency conditions. The practical part presents a research which focuses on public opinions on single mothers in emergency conditions in Český Krumlov region. The field research was conducted through the method of a questionnaire. The focus group was public in Český Krumlov region. The aim of the field research was to map public opinions of Český Krumlov region residents on single mothers in emergency conditions. The research showed that single parent (mother) families are considered to be a group with the highest risks to be exposed to low standard of living. At the same time more than 50 % or respondents think that the most obvious reason for single mother to be in a critical life situation are economic troubles and lack of finance. An important fact which contributed to this result is that more than one quarter of respondents thinks that their current economic situation is not easy or even critical. In respect to domestic violence issue, the research showed that more than half of respondents believe that domestic violence against women by their spouses is mainly a results men aggressive behavior. The most frequent answer picked was aggressiveness initiated by the use of alcohol and drugs, than aggressive behavior inborn i.e. genetic predisposition to act aggressively and aggressive conduct like a way how to escape and resolve life situations which may appear to be unsolvable and an aggressor is not able to control her behavior. Public sees domestic violence to be a serious problem which is mainly present in single mother families. The most of respondents believe that domestic violence against mothers and children is the most frequent reason for single mothers to apply for subsidized single parent accommodation. It is assumed that in this respect, public sees the relation between domestic violence and torturing victims in early childhood. More than 60 % of respondents believe that prevailing numbers of women who are victims of domestic violence in their childhood are victims of domestic violence also when they grow up mainly because of their previous experience when low self-confidence and violence become a part of their daily life even though hard bearing.
The scientific and ordinary public attitute fowards to the home violence
VESELÁKOVÁ, Jesika
Abstract This Bachelor{\crq}s thesis deals, both theoretically and practically, with the attitudes of the professional and non-professional public to domestic violence. Violence in its various forms has been deep-rooted in human behaviour from time immemorial, and, in my opinion, it is unrealistic to think that it may be eliminated or at least suppressed at its beginning. What may be dealt with, however, are attitudes of society towards violence and its originators. The victim{\crq}s attitude is derived from the attitude of the state and the professional and non-professional public to this matter. The theoretical part focuses on defining the term of domestic violence and its specific aspects and forms. The readers become acquainted with society{\crq}s different views of men, women and children in a brief historical discourse. This thesis also sums up the characteristics of the victim and the culprit of domestic violence, and it briefly informs about the development and the present legislative state in the Czech Republic. The final chapters of this part deal with the definition, components and measuring of attitudes. The objective of the thesis was surveying the real situation of the professional and non-professional public{\crq}s attitudes. Before I started my research, I set up two hypotheses for each of the groups questioned. The first hypothesis confirms that the non-professional public is not sufficiently aware of domestic violence and possibilities of help provided to victims. The second hypothesis confirms that the non-professional public perceives domestic violence as a negative phenomenon in society, and are ready to participate in its detection. I consider the fact that the non-professional public are not able to distinguish domestic violence from ``hard disputes{\crq}q, as results from the first hypothesis, as the most serious obstacle in the way non-professional public detect this criminal offence. The third hypothesis confirms that more than 70 per cent of the respondents from among the professional public consider domestic violence as a problem concerning the entire society. The fourth hypothesis confirming that the prevailing majority of the respondents from among the professional public regard the currently valid legal state as sufficient, was refuted. To conduct the survey I used the quantitative method. The data were obtained from two sets of population by means of two types of anonymous questionnaires. The set of respondents of the non-professional public numbered 208. The research set of the professional public consisted of 53 respondents. The sets were not compared with each other. The objective of the thesis was fulfilled. I view the main contribution of my thesis in pointing at problematic spheres in the society{\crq}s awareness and attitudes, and I suggested possible solutions of the problem as well as starting points from this sphere in the future. The results of my thesis could be used as a feedback for the professional and interested public.
Domestic violence as a social problem in České Budějovice district
ŠÍMOVÁ, Ivana
Violence at home, a.k.a. home violence, is a spiraling cycle of brutality committed in private between closely related persons. Such violence can by physical, psychological, sexual, economic or social, with the roles of the attacker and the victim clearly defined and never changing. Anyone can be exposed to home violence, irrespective of her or his social position, education, job, sex, age, religion, or the type of partnership that people live in. Advanced societies have developed a tendency to tackle the issue, and the awareness of the problem has improved. In our country this favorable development is driven primarily by the newly enacted regulations and the keener interest stirred up in the public. The thesis aimed to investigate the general public awareness of home violence within the District of České Budějovice. As followed from the survey, the public living in the District is well aware of the issue. The results showed that as much as 69% of respondents knew about home violence, while the remaining 31% were ignorant of the problem. Hypothesis: Females are better informed about home violence than males - confirmed by comparison between what the women and the men knew about the issue. The difference encountered, however, was just minor. Hypothesis: People living in the District of České Budějovice are not knowledgeable about changes newly passed in Act 135/200 to solve the problem of violence at home - not confirmed. The majority of respondents heard of the Act and were able to specify at least the essential changes it enacted. The change the respondents mentioned most often was the 10 day period of flat-eviction order. It comes as a matter of interest that males were better aware of the Act and could better quote the changes it introduced. Hypothesis: The public accepts as true that home violence is confined to just problem-ridden families - not confirmed. Eighty seven percent of females and 81% of males were convinced that home violence was not limited to only such families. Merely 13% of females and 19% of males believed the home violence was a matter of the problem-ridden families. The survey results showed that the public living in the District of České Budějovice had dropped this myth, i.e. they had not seen the hypothesis as truthful. The thesis can serve as a source of information for the lay public, as a piece of instruction material for the students of the University of South Bohemia, or it could also be given to the Intervention Center to be distributed among the victims of home violence.
