Three Comparative Essays on Gender Earnings Inequality in the Czech Republic

This thesis adopts three stepwise perspectives to look at earnings inequality. It applies Czech data from two surveys, Microcensus and Living Conditions, covering the period 1988-2008, and European dataset EU-SILC 2008 and 2009 for international comparisons. The first essay "Personal Earnings Inequality" analyzes personal earnings distribution in the Czech Republic since the early transition from communism, using relative distribution method. The trend of "hollowing of the middle" was confirmed in the early transition, but this phenomenon later subsided. Earnings polarization was apparent for all sex and education subgroups between 1988 and 1996. In international comparison, earnings of men and highly educated are more homogenous than earnings of their counterparts in most analyzed countries. The second essay "Gender Wage Gap" quantifies the structure of gender wage gaps in four Central-East European countries (CEE), using the Heckman regression model and Oaxaca- Blinder decomposition. The observed gender wage gap is substantially higher in the Czech Republic and Slovakia than in Hungary and Poland. Employment Relationships in Terms of Wage Costs Optimization

The bachelor´s thesis is focused on job-law relationships, specifically on system of employee rewarding for the selected employer. Target of the thesis is especially to optimize personal outlay of employer. Theoretical part is focused on clarification of relationships between employer and employees. Next part is devoted to the analysis of present state of rewarding of employee and questionnaire survey. Based on the analysis are suggested optimal solutions leading to economical and tax handiness.

The Issue of Wages in a Selected Accounting Unit

The aim of this bachelor thesis was to analyze labour costs of dormitories and canteens at the University of South Bohemia, and to determine their influence on calculation of corporate income tax. The findings were used to make a proposal of possible solutions to optimize these costs. To this goal, it was necessary to get acquainted with wage matters first. In the theoretical part of the bachelor thesis, the literature review provides a comprehensive overview of these matters. The practical part was focused on the analysis of labour costs and determination of their influence on calculation of corporate income tax. Eight different kinds of standard employee benefits were used to calculate and determine the optimal amount of labour costs. The analysis has shown that for the employer it is expenses tax deductible for it to the full extent while not being included in the assessment base for premium payments which are the most budget-wise option of providing benefits.
