The usage of an InterCorp parallel corpus to obtain equivalents for a Croatian-Czech dictionary
Jirásek, Karel
In the year 2010, the parallel Croatian-Czech corpus, which is part of the InterCorp project, exceeded 10 million tokens in both language versions and therefore it was possible to proceed to its practical use in finding equivalents for the Croatian-Czech dictionaries being prepared. The indicated size of the corpus has proved to be quite adequate for building a medium size dictionary, which should contain approximately 20 thousand entries. In the case of frequent entries, due to the confrontation of two languages, this corpus size is often adequate to capture the polysemy of words better than some existing explanatory or bilingual dictionaries. This is a great advantage, especially for the creation of bilingual dictionaries of two closely related languages.

The Phenomenon of a Jew in Polish and Czech Language and in Polish and Czech Jewish Anecdotes in the Context of Literature of the First Half 20th Century
BALÍK, Štěpán
To describe the phenomenon of a Jew in Czech and Polish language and Czech and Polish Jewish anecdotes in both national literatures I apply the tools of cognitive linguistics. I am depicting the stereotype of a Jew according to three crucial oppositions on which my theoretical framework is based. The world of ?us? is positive, characterized as a human, useful and catholic one. The world of ?them? is negative, depicted as animal, redundant and non-catholic one. Vocabulary (especially idiomatic expressions) and examples quoted from literary fiction (especially Jewish anecdotes), which are connected to the inner and outer picture of a Jew, show an ethnic stereotype in a Polish and Czech naive linguistic picture of the world. In a comparative view, the differences and parallels between Polish and Czech perspective are more evident. To stress my conclusions, I use demographic, cultural and historical data as well as examples in literature which are closely linked. However, I intend neither to describe the development of the vocabulary nor to summarize dictionary meanings; I am focusing on shifts in pictures of Jews (partly in comparison with picture of the Romany). Examples which are taken out of dictionaries, secondary literature and fiction are ? if possible ? verified by contemporary memory, e. g. the memory of present Czech and Polish people in this field. I will not use the term ?antisemitism?, which is often used in a secondary literature, instead, inspired by both cognitive linguistics and ethnology I use ?ethnocentrism?.

The Education for Czech Languague at the Family of Johann Nepomuk von Schwarzenberg
PSOTKOVÁ, Jana
The present Bachelor's thesis deals with the education for Czech language at the family of Johann Nepomuk von Schwarzenberg. Our account is based on the textbook Knjžka k učenj se česky, which was written in 1778 for the young prince Joseph of Schwarzenberg. The study endeavours to reconstruct the contents and the form of the manual. Secondly, I attempt to make a comparative analysis of our textbook with Czech grammar manuals from the 18th century. Furthermore, I try to identify its author. The Bachelor's thesis is divided into five chapters. The introduction surveys the current scholarship related to the subject of our research and the archival sources. The first two chapters discuss the development of Czech language in the 18th century. I describe the situation of the Czech language in the 18th century and the developments of the Czech linguistic research in the 18th century. The third chapter explores the Bohemian aristocracy?s relation to the Czech language in the period from the 16th to the 18th century. The fourth chapter presents the history of Czech language within the Schwarzenberg family. The fundamental part of our work is the fifth chapter, which analyzes the Schwarzenberg textbook and addresses the following problems: the method of the linguistic education, the contents, the language and the authorship of the textbook. In conclusion I sum up the results of my research.
