Study of Elastohydrodynamic Film Formation in Hypoid Gears
Omasta, Milan ; Dobeš, Petr (referee) ; Čermák,, Jan (referee) ; Dzimko, Marián (referee) ; Křupka, Ivan (advisor)
This PhD thesis deals with elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) under the conditions that occur between mated hypoid gear teeth. The aim is to describe experimentally the behaviour of lubricating film and mechanisms of its formation. The focus is mainly placed on clarifying the influence of direction and magnitude of sliding velocity in circular and elliptical contacts. Generally, it is still assumed that the direction of sliding velocity has no effect on the resulting lubricant film. In this study optical interferometry is used to determine distribution of lubricant film thickness. This work includes new and original results which clarify the studied problem. It was found that the direction of sliding velocity affects shape of the film at high speeds. This relates to the effect on heat flow through the contact. The results have an impact on the development of general EHL theory and provide knowledge applicable in film thickness prediction in the design of real tribological nodes.

Ficza, Ildikó ; Kaneta, Motohiro (referee) ; Poll, Gerhard (referee) ; Hartl, Martin (advisor)
Práce obsahuje popis matematického modelu EHD kontaktu a aplikované numeriké metody. Výsledky simulací jsou porovnány s experimentálně stanovenýma hodnotama tloušťky mazacího filmu. Deformace nerovnosti uvnitř kontaktní oblasti je studována pro různé provozní podmínky (střední rychlost, poměr proklzu) a různá vlastnosti maziva.
Suitable lubricants for deep drawing of steel
Hřebíček, Pavel ; Staněk, Vojtěch (referee) ; Lidmila, Zdeněk (advisor)
The aim of this work is experimental evaluation of suitability of lubricants for drawing of stainless steel 1.4301 at elevated temperature, which corresponds to temperature in real process. The lubricant testing method is based on friction modeling between the pull edge and the retainer, which corresponds to the real process. Therefore, the design of the test fixture also conformed to this model. The result of the work is a comparison of the suitability of every single lubricants with the reference lubricant used in ACO Industries. The best results were obtained with AT Kalorex 650 S lubricant, which contains environmentally harmful additives.

This bachelor thesis is focused on the description of methods for experimantal study of lubrication films in contact of machine parts, particularly for non-conformal surfaces, for which elastohydrodynamic and mixed of lubrication is typical. The methods are devided according to measured quantity into the methods for film thickness measurement, contact pressure measurement and temperature measurement. It was described the principle of these methods, the equipment, application and characteristics. Finally, evaluation of current status and further development are included.
Effect of lubricant rheology on lubrication film thickness.
Prášilová, Alena ; Šperka, Petr (referee) ; Křupka, Ivan (advisor)
Lubrication is a very important part of mechanical engineering, which ensures high lifetime of machine parts, reduction of friction and wear and also it leads to decreasing of power consumption. In this bachelor`s thesis there is described rheology of newtonian and non-newtonian lubricants and its effect on lubrication film thickness. Measured central film thickness values are compared with theoretical prediction.
Improving friction of lubricated contacts by modifying thermal conductivity
Šnevajs, Matěj ; Hartl, Martin (referee) ; Šperka, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with an experimental study regarding the effects of the thermal conductivity of contact bodies on the friction, lubricant film thickness and temperature distribution in EHL contact. The thesis focuses on the configuration of the ball on disc contact. The contact body materials are characterized by a wide range of thermal properties. New contact pairs are proposed and used in the study in order to make the contact bodies’ thermal properties dependent on the behaviour of EHL contact. The colorimetric interferometry method is used to measure the lubricant film thickness and the infrared thermography method is used to observe the temperature distribution in EHL contact. The author presents the assumed mechanism of heat transfer within EHL contact on the basis of different heat transfer mechanisms. The same conditions – such as the Hertz pressure, mean entrainment speed, sliding speed and ambient temperature – are induced for all the contact pair combinations. That is why the differences in the results are attributed to the different thermal phenomena in the contact, caused by the thermal properties of the contact bodies. In the case of contact bodies with a reduced heat dissipation capability, a reduction of the friction coefficient of up to 50 % is observed, which is attributed to an increase in the lubricant temperature, resulting in a decrease in its viscosity. This is confirmed by the infrared thermography method, whereby a significantly higher lubricant temperature is observed in the case of a combination of contact materials with a lower heat dissipation capability.

Elastohydrodynamic Film Study under Impact Loading and Lateral Vibrations
