Cold asphalt mixtures
Spáčil, Petr ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The bachelor thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part consists of explanation of the problem. The thesis includes definitions as Bitumen, Asphalt Mixture, Asphalt Binder, Cut-back Bitumen and Viscosity. The practical part is focused mainly on the description of the test methods used on Asphalt Binders and Mixtures which were intended for repairs. It describes differences between used Asphalt Binders and explains and describes other used materials. The practical part compares the mixtures of different Cut-back Bitumen. It describes the production process and project of Cut-back bitumen mixture, the production process of individual test solids and compares the differences with hot made asphalt mixture. It also describes the analysis of volumetric, mechanical-physical and funcional tests in purpose of evaluating the differences between standard Cut-back Bitumen and new biofluxed asphalt binder.
Warm Mix Asphalt Using Technology of Foam Bitumen
Machel, Ondřej
Nowadays, more and more attention is paid to the environment protection. The issues of the environment protection are obviously related to road engineering as well. Asphalt pavements are used in the majority of road constructions. When producing these mixtures, it´s necessary to reach high temperatures, which is energetically demanding and at the same time there are impacts on the environment. In order to reduce the negative effects as much as possible, there are efforts to reduce working temperatures while keeping the properties of the mixtures. The result is the so–called Warm Mix Asphalt – WMA. The aim of this article is to introduce basic methods for reducing working temperatures with a focus on the foam bitumen technology and its use in the Czech Republic.
Evaluation of properties of clear and pigmented asphalt binders
Kamanová, Monika ; Machalla, Michael (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The Bachelor thesis subject is comparison of the chosen parameters of clear asphalt binder with pigmented asphalt binder. The theoretical part explains parameters of asphalt binders and improving their properties after using additives. The second part is explaining methods and test results. The empirical tests (needle penetration, softening point, breaking point) and performance tests in dynamic shear rheometer and bending beam rheometer are used for comparison of binders properties. In the conclusion the laboratory aging of asphalt binders is described by RTFOT and RTFOT + PAV method.
Influence of boundary conditions on the aging index of asphalt binders
Štohlová, Barbora ; Koudelka, Tomáš (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with an influence of several boundary conditions on the aging index of various modified asphalt binders. In the thesis there is rheology and modification of asphalt binders, types of ageing (short-term, long-term) and used tests (needle penetration, softening point, complex shear modulus, phase angle, aging tests) described. In the second part there is a brief description of used materials and comparison of the test results on these materials.
Identification of rate type fluids suitable for modeling geomaterials
Tůma, Karel
In the present thesis we study and compare different viscoelastic rate-type fluid models capable of describing response of geomaterials such as asphalt. Using new thermodynamic approach proposed by Rajagopal and Srinivasa (2000) we derive several classes of non-linear viscoelastic models that generalize standard Oldroyd-B and Burgers models. We show that the new models achieve better results in fitting experimental data with asphalt than the previously considered models (Oldroyd-B, Burgers, Rajagopal and Srinivasa (2000)). In particular they are able to capture the behavior of asphalt observed recently in experiments (torque overshoot and two relaxation mechanisms), which is not possible to describe by the other models. Using both the standard and the newly derived models we compute full simulations of viscoelastic flow with the finite element method in fixed domains and incorporating the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian description also in deforming domains. For example, we study rolling of asphalt or creation of ruts in the road with the real material parameters obtained by fitting the experiments. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Use of R-material in asphalt mixtures with PMB type binder
Navrátilová, Pavlína ; Dašek, Ondřej (referee) ; Hýzl, Petr (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on the use of R-material in asphalt mixtures with a PMB type binder. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part describes the acquisition of R-material by road milling, the use of R-material, the binder used in the practical part of the work and the types of recycling. The practical part deals with the design of four types of asphalt mixtures with different content of R-material in the asphalt mixture. It also deals with the description of functional tests of asphalt mixtures and the results of these tests.
Evaluation of properties of PMB containing binder from RAP
Měšťanová, Petra ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
Subject of this diploma thesis is to describe the effect of adding different amount of aged binder recovered from RAP on the change of properties of polymer modified bitumen. The RAP containing unmodified bitumen and the RAP where we can expect bitumen modification are used to recover binder. The binder obtained from RAP is dosed into the virgin binder in amount of 15 %, 30 % and 50 %. The methods of recycling of flexible pavements, extraction and regeneration of asphalt binders, rejuvenating of their properties and methods of empirical and functional laboratory tests are described in the theoretical part. The practical part deals with evaluating and comparison of the results mixed binders properties.

The procedures for performing the stiffness modulus test (2PB-TR) and the low temperature (TSRST) test are described in the following part. Individual tests are evaluated and asphalt mixtures are compared in the practical part of bachelor thesis.
The evaluation of properties of fine aggregate for asphalt mixtures
Kadlček, Jakub ; Sychra, Martin (referee) ; Dašek, Ondřej (advisor)
The diploma thesis is focused on evaluation of properties of fine aggregate by means of laboratory tests. Fine aggregate evaluation was performed using sieving test, laser diffraction, delta ring and ball test, bitumen number test, uncompacted void content of fine aggregate according to AASHTO T 304, voids of dry compacted filler (Rigden) test and particle density of filler. Laboratory research has led to the discovery of some properties of fine aggregate and their dependencies.
