Latin inscriptions in České Budějovice
FROJDOVÁ, Marie
The thesis deals with the analysis of Latin inscriptions in the cadaster of České Budějovice. Latin inscriptions in České Budějovice have its origin mainly in the 17th and 18th century and are connected with the sacral objects, buildings and statues. The inscriptions either in or on buildings often contain chronogram, from which it is possible to uncover the date of the construction or reconstruction (e.g. there is one chronogram depicting the date of the monastery reconstruction on the St. Anne Church, another can be found on the town hall, wine shop building or on the St. Nicholas Cathedral). Chronogram can also be found on the gravestones, whence the year of the decease or the year of the gravestone making can be determined (the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary). We also often get in touch with the chronograms at the inscriptions on the pedestals of Josef Dietrich's statues. A difference was discovered in the text on the Marian sculptural group. The text which had been suggested by the town council (1715 signing the contract) is different from the real text (1716 contract making). The text differs when creating the chronogram and it is needed to surmise, what is correct. Interesting are the inscriptions written in Beuronese style (the Church of the Rosary Virgin Mary, the Church of John of Nepomuk and the Church of the Divine Lord´s Heart). The inscriptions contain the texts from the Bible, also from the Latin Vulgate, shortenings and signs; therefore they are difficult to translate. Most often the chapters from the Book of Sirach are quoted, which contains informative wisdoms. Latin inscriptions also celebrate the donator (Calvary Terezie Aichlerová), rulers (town hall Charles VI) or the originators of work (the Church of the Rosary Virgin Mary Klement Petr). Current inscriptions bind to the buildings which they are written on (archive script, university education).
To the language of Itinerarium Antonini Placentini
JELÍNKOVÁ, Jitka
The object of this diploma thesis, with a title of To the language of Itinerarium Antonini Placentini, is to achieve a lingvistic and stylistic analysis of this text and to offer its compact translation with a regard for differences, which occur in three extant versions. This text, written in a vulgar latin, comes from the 6th century A. D. and describes the journey of anonymous author to the Holy Land. The problem of incident aspects of the vulgar latin from phonetic, morfological, syntactic and lexical viewpoint is also a part of this thesis. The attention is given more to the studying of the nominal forms of verbs. The characteristics of the stylistic aspect of Itinerarium and the subject commentary, which is necessary to the correct undestanding, aren´t missing of course.
