The compact city - rehabilitation of the urban area surrounding the historic center of Brno
Vodička, Jan ; Ležatka,, Lukáš (referee) ; Pavlovský, Tomáš (advisor)
The goal of the diploma thesis is to design a form of redeveloped urban area adjacent to the historical city centre of Brno. The design follows the tradition of the compact city and its development from the medieval age until the 19th century. Mixed functions, preference of non-motorised and public transport, vital shopping streets with greenery, permeability and spaces without barriers are characteristics for the proposed city of short distances. The design has its own distinctive approach to the plot, conceptually differing from the valid local development plan. I do not believe that the important animating impulse for the underdeveloped district of Brno-Zábrdovice should consist of tearing down existing buildings and replacing them with a new thoroughfare duplicating the internal city ring road.

Architectural and urban design for the reconversion of the part of the Old Brno (former textil fabric of the company Kras and surrounding areas) based on the existing structure of the Old Brno and ideas of compact city (mixing functions> multipurpose buildings, the divergence between private and public space, higher density of the city ...) The work consists of several parts: planning studies, design transportation solutions, waterfront Svratka concept and design for the multifunctional block on the waterfront. What is important is the idea of calming waterfront Svratka (sheltering services to the proposed tunnel and the cancellation of barrier between the city and the river). The waterfront district should become after more attractive location and provide a space for sport, recreation and afternoon walks. There is a block of multipurpose buildings on the waterfront. A corporate underground garage, which is under the block, should be build by a strong investor / city. After underground garage completion, the site will be divided into several parcels and these will be rented to various long-term investors .Tenants can build buildings on them according to their needs. It is possible to build buildings above the garage in sequence development. The project is just one of many options. Individual buildings are design in scale 1:200

TOWN HOUSE IN A COMPACT CITY, OLD BRNO
Ordeltová, Kristýna ; Todorov, Petr (referee) ; Kiszka, Josef (advisor)
This work deals with the design of an urban polyfunctional house in the context of living in the 21st century. Emphasis is placed on an alternative form of cohousing and shared living (coliving), but a high level of privacy and independence is maintained. The building is designed as a multifunctional house with a predominant community content such as a library or coworking offices. The phenomenon of living in an apartment building is enriched with additional functions, and living in the city is thus raised to a higher level. At the same time, the bachelor‘s thesis builds on previous findings from my studio work and concretizes the form of urban design and connections in the entire block of Leitnerova-Hybešova.

The aim of my work was to create quality housing with an emphasis on community relations. Types of apartments are also designed as co-housing with shared areas, community gardens, and leisure activities supporting the association of different age categories. I try to keep as many green spaces as possible and support spending time outdoors. The functional content also includes cultural and educational spaces as well as spaces for physical activities, which are available to both residents and the general public.
