VOSTROVSKÁ, Marika
This thesis deals with awareness of teachers in mainstream elementary schools in the South Bohemian Region about autism and autistic spectrum disorders. The thesis is divided into four basic chapters followed by discussion and conclusion. The first chapter of the thesis focuses on theoretical background of autism and autistic spectrum disorders. The second chapter deals with the topic of autism and ASD in the school environment, including possibility of intervention. Chapter 3 and 4 include methodological part of the thesis. Chapter 3 focuses on quantitative research of awareness of teachers on this issue, as well as their needs and experience. South Bohemian teachers demonstrated their knowledge, attitudes and experience regarding autism and ASD in a short questionnaire and a knowledge quiz. Chapter 4 applies a qualitative method and provides an analysis of the interview, which was carried out with two teachers who work with students with autism or ASD in mainstream primary school. The base of the quantitative research was a questionnaire for teachers, which main purpose was to measure awareness and basic orientation in the problem of autism. Knowledge quiz focused on detailed investigation of knowledge base of autism and ASD among teachers concerned. This thesis established five main hypotheses with subhypotheses that have been tested in several respects, especially length of teaching experience, specific training of respondents, school size and previous experience with autistic students. Extensive testing has supported six sub-hypothesis, which show that the awareness is influenced by place (namely school size) and that previous experience strongly supports a positive attitude towards the integration. In the same way, experience with students with autism showed a higher interest on additional training in these issues. The qualitative part of the thesis analyses the interview with two particular teachers who work every day with students with autism and autism spectrum disorders. The thesis explores their particular experience with autistic pupils, their knowledge and education, but also the problems and needs these teachers have in communication with pupils.

Social Services for People with Autism
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Tereza
Abstract Social services for people with autism This diploma thesis is focused on the issues of social services for people with autism. I have concentrated my research on people looking after the people with autism. In the theoretical part I deal with the explanation of the term autism, division of autism, I describe specific work with people with autism, some kinds of therapies, social services for people with autism and some organizations working with people with autism. In the practical part of the work there are written and evaluated interviews with the respondents. Collecting information was done by the qualitative form, via the method of asking. As the method of colleticting data the half-standarised interview was used. The group for the research was formed by the people looking after the people with autism. I spoke with eight caretakers in total, they were always parents of the children with autism. The choice was done by the method of snowball. Each interview was elaborated into eight case studies. The results of the interviews were transformed into tables and summerized in a discussion. The aim of the diploma thesis was to map possibilities of social services for people with autism and if they have possibility to use these services. Other aim was to find out which services are used the most by these people and if they suit them. Then I investigated if these services are accessible financially, by quantity and quality and if they copy the requirements of a family and individual needs of the people with autism. The interviews with the respondents show that the families living in Prague have the possibility to use social services for the people with autism. The respondents living in smaller towns have more difficult access to these services and very often they do not have the possibility of any choice. This work could contribute to quality improvement of providing social services to the people with autism. In my opinion, it is necessary to educate non-professional and professional public in this issue. This is the way to provide better services reflecting the needs of the people with autism. Key words: autism, social services, social relations, communication
Nursing Care Particularities in Children Admitted to Hospital with Autism
SCHÖNBAUEROVÁ, Andrea
The topic of the thesis is the Nursing Care Particularities in Children Admitted to Hospital with Autism. In the theoretical part is found the description of autism causes, clinical manifestation, diagnostics, basic therapeutic measures and nursing care in such children. The thesis has set three goals: Goal 1- finding out problems concerning the hospital admittance of an autistic child. Goal 2- determining the specific features of nursing care in children with autism. Goal 3- creating an informative brochure that would help nurses to gain basic information necessary to provide expert nursing care to autistic children. To gain these goals, a method of qualitative research and the technique of standardized interviews were used. In the frame of the research, two research samples were used. The first one consisted of nurses who work in children´s psychiatric wards and children´s neurologic wards. These nurses were chosen deliberately as they care about autistic children regularly and have a lot of experience in this branch. Altogether ten interviews were conducted and were recorded on the record keeping sheet and consequently processed. The other research sample were mothers of children in whom autism was diagnosed and who experienced hospital admittance either as a diagnostic stay or in connection with acute treatment. Also here ten interviews were conducted. After the completion of qualitative research answers to the set research questions were gained: Research question 1 finds out what are the specific features of nursing care in children with autism. On the basis of the research, it was concluded that nursing care in autistic children has some specific features such as communication, observing rituals, the necessity of a parent´s company, as well as the psychical burden both of children and staff. Research question 2 focused on finding what problems are connected with the hospital admittance of an autistic child. On the basis of the conducted interviews, it was concluded that the biggest problems concerning hospital admittance apply to children´s aggressivity, difficult adaptability to environment changes and problems that occur after the experienced admittance. Further on, it was concluded that also children´s individuality is a serious problem that has to be taken into consideration during nursing care. Research question 3 found out how nurses assess parent´s presence during the admittance of autistic children. All nurses perceive the parent´s presence highly positively. They see the most benefits in passing important information to nurses, accompanying the child during the whole period of admittance, helping with the adaptation to a new environment, providing the common daily care including spending free time and giving the child the feeling of safety and assurance. Research question 4 deals with nurses´ feelings when nursing autistic children. The provided information is individual. The research has found that nurses feel well, do not see problems and the work is routine for them. Negative feelings are influenced by circumstances concerning mood, tiredness or demanding communication with parents. Further, it was concluded that nurses feel insecurity in the period when they start working with autistic children or during the first contact with the child. With regard to high disorder prevalence in the population, it is essential for nurses to know basic information concerning autism and adopt the basis of nursing care in children with this disability type. In this connection, an information material was created that has to help nurses to acquire basic information necessary to provide expert care to autistic children.
