The Application of Ethical Theories to Selected Dilemmas of Social Workers in Homes for Seniors

The diploma thesis refers to the applicability of ethical theories in solving the dilemmas of social workers in homes for the elderly. The thesis is divided into four parts. In the first part there is defined a residential social service in the form of a home for seniors and characterized the nature of social work in this facility. The second part defines eleven dilemmas social workers encounter in their practice and also the reasons why social workers avoid them. The third part describes the essence of ethical theory in social work practice. It is focused on the description of three selected theories which include deontology, utilitarianism and the ethics of care. The last part concerns the application of these theories to the two ethical dilemmas of social workers: to contact or not to contact client's family, to solve or not to solve client's problems.
Selected ethical dilemmas of social workers supporting foster families

This Diploma Thesis deals with the description of the ethical dilemmas faced by personnel attached to the foster family. The first part is devoted to the family, because that is the target group with which the attached person supervising the worker works. The second part deals with foster care, in particular, its legislative definition. This definition determines the boundaries within which the worker moves. Next, I explain, what is the legislation of our country, related to foster care, based on. The third chapter describes what should the attached personnel be like and what is included in their work performance. The next chapter presents dilemmas for workers, which I found, on the basis of qualitative research using interviews with staff. The final, fifth chapter is devoted to the analysis of selected ethical dilemma from the perspective of ethics I. Kant and utilitarianism.
Ethical dilemmas in hospice

The work is written in order to create an ethical justification for each of the considered solutions to the ethical dilemmas with which hospice workers can meet. The thesis is divided into three blocks. The first block is focused on the palliative, hospice care, on the issue of dying and death. Second block deals with general ethical issues, explaining the basic ethical concepts needed for my thesis and also contains my selected ethical theories that are relevant to meet the objectives of my thesis. The last block contains specific ethical dilemmas I have observed and experienced during my training in the Hospice of St. John N. Neumann based in Prachatice. First in this block are shown the values, which in my opinion, affect the decisions of workers. Subsequently is taken in account each identified ethical dilemma and is determined by its possible solution. Each option of the solution is justified by the argument supported by ethical theories, principles and values.
Ethical Dilemmas in Social Work with Roma Client

This thesis deals with the description of the ethical dilemmas faced by social workers in their profession with the target group of Roma clients. The work is divided into four main parts. The first part describes the current situation of Roma in the Czech Republic and then the particular region in the South. There is also mentioned the social work in the context of the Roma minority. The second part is the connection of ethics and social work. There are also defined ethical problems and ethical dilemmas. There are introduced the experiences of dilemmas of social workers in the other part. This chapter is supported by qualitative research through interviews with social workers. The last part describes the analysis of the ethical dilemma in ethical theory according to the concept of the magazine article from Sociální práce/Sociálna práca.
Ethical dilemmas of social workers working with victim of domestic violence

The thesis deals with the topic of ethical dilemmas of social workers who meet the victims of domestic violence in their practice. The thesis is theoretical in nature, supplemented with research. The first chapter is devoted to the topic of domestic violence, it especially describes specifics of social work with the target group and points to the possible causes of formation of the dilemmas when working with clients. The second part of the diploma theses shortly defines the concept of ethical dilemma and its place in the social work practise. There are also mentioned examples of possible dilemmas in social work. In this part the final theses draws particularly from the authors L. Musil, S. Banks, D. Nedělníková and M. Nečasová. Major part of the second chapter occupies with concrete ethical dilemmas that relate to social work with victims of domestic violence and with their detailed description. The ethic dilemmas were identified on the basis of research made with eight social workers. A semi-structured interview completed by observation was chosen as the method. The last chapter introduces the ethical theories of deontology, utilitarianism and care ethics. It points to the importance and benefit of ethical theories for practise of social work in general and for social workers themselves. Two chosen ethical dilemmas, identified on the basis of research, are reflected from a position of ethical approaches mentioned above.
The evelutionary crises, thein sense and importance, asserting of ethics and social work with solution of adolescence

This work is engaged in the reflexis of endangerous of behaviour in the season of adolescence. The first chapter offers a complex, compendious acquainting with life crises in the developement of man with the intention on the crise of adolescence. In conection with this season, there are described fundamental changes that can be the source of critical moments. The second chapter is following up with a critical moments that describes concrete forms of social work with young generation and ethics questions and dilemmas. The third chapter enriches the previous two of the theory of social work that facilitates a daily practise of workers and it specifies for anybody what to do. The last chapter of the work is about the reflex of ethics questions in the social work with adolescence people and their crises and finding the question on it or finding the perspective solutions.

Thesis examines ethical problems and dilemmas encountered by social workers at AKORD social welfare institution for persons with mental and combined disabilities. First part contains definitions of mental disability, combined disabilities; reports on social services and introduces AKORD social welfare institution. Principal part of the thesis defines five ethical problems and dilemmas and presents research results. Following part focuses on solving ethically difficult situations and application of ethical theories on example of ethical problem. Final chapter summarizes new findings and recommended solutions.
Ethical dilemmas in the helping professions working with mistreated and abused children from the perspective of various ethical approaches

The aim of this thesis is to examine how ethical dilemmas can be assessed and addressed by the various ethical theories. These are dilemmas experienced by the help workers who encounter within their profession with a group of mistreated and abused children. First part of the thesis provides the description of the specific concepts related to work. The following section is devoted to factors that may influence the emergence of a dilemma and which are reflected within the solutions of the dilemmas. The main part of the thesis deals with the ethical analysis of specific dilemmas identified. Individual dilemmas are analyzed using the literature and ethical approaches. To each dilemma a reflection of its solutions is attached according to ethical theories and ethical codes of the workers from which possible insufficiencies arise. The thesis is concluded by the chapter on the proposed solutions of this situation and the practical benefits of the work.

Care about Seniors in Light of Social Work and Ethics

The first chapter examines the relationship of the society to the seniors, perception surrounding seniors, negative and positive views of the seniors in the history, then ageism. The second chapter refers to the dependence and vulnerability as the dimension of human existence. For that reason, here is paid attention to the care of seniors, with a more detailed focus on the seniors with dementia and the senior's dying. There aren't also omitted the care of social workers and therefore is a notice of the burn-out syndrome. In the last chapter is given positive influence of autonomy and dignified approach on the success life of the seniors. Furthermore, the importance of ethical standards contained in codes of ethics and ethical theories for the correct decision and behaviour of a social worker.
