Care for a Client with Alzheimers Dementia
ŠTEFLOVÁ, Zdeňka
The title of this bachelor thesis is Care for a Client with Alzheimers Dementia. Alzheimers dementia is characterised as a progressive neurodegenerative process. This disease is known as the fourth major cause of death, just after ischemic heart disease, tumours and cerebrovascular accidents. Alzheimers dementia affects most often people above 65 and it is a demanding disease from medical, social, economic and psychological point of view. It is called Silent Epidemic. The theoretical part is focused on Alzheimers disease, its causes and symptoms, medical examination methods and treatment. Then this part describes the role of a nurse and the specifics of the treatment in the areas of nutrition, safety, communication, rehabilitation, hygiene, dressing, evacuating and cooperation with the family. In the practical part the quantitative and qualitative research was carried out. The aim of the research was to find out about the knowledge of nursing staff regarding the specifics of the nursing care for a client suffering from Alzheimes dementia in the hospital of Jihlava. To collect data from the nursing staff, an anonymous questionnaire was used. The research was carried out from February to March 2012. The objective of the qualitative research was to find out what the relatives expect from the nurses caring for clients with Alzheimers dementia in the hospital of Jihlava. To achieve the above mentioned objective, the method of questioning was applied together with the technique of an unstandardized interview. 6 nurses were interviewed. The research was carried out during February and March 2012. Based on the questionnaires I found out that the nursing staff is familiar with the issue of the specifics of the care for a client suffering from Alzheimes dementia. The research also revealed that the nurses who work at the Department of shut-ins have a frequent contact with clients with Alzheimes dementia and thus, they have experience in caring for them. The assessed interviews have shown that caregivers let the client hospitalized in case they are overloaded, not able to provide proper care and also in case the clients flat is being adjusted or if a caregiver goes on holiday. If a client is not able to do something or needs help, families expect the nurse to help the client. It is evident the caregivers do not expect the nursing staff to do miracles. They only wish that the clients health state did not get worse during the clients stay in hospital. Persons, who look after the client for a short time, do not have enough information about the disease, its progress and essential care and they expect from the nursing staff too much. The bachelors thesis will become the basis for the lectures within the colloquium in the hospital of Jihlava and also for elaborating of standards in the procedure of care for a client with Alzheimers dementia. I have created the information material which contains ten basis points in each of the areas of care.
The Specifics of Geriatric Nursing Care for Trauma Patients
LUKEŠOVÁ, Lenka
The theoretical portion of this thesis, on the topic "The Specifics of Geriatric Nursing Care for Trauma Patients,,, deals with gerontology and the definition of geriatric patients in general, physical and psychological changes in old age, communication with seniors in general and communication with seniors with hearing and vision loss, the causes of trauma in seniors, and curiosities in post-traumatic nursing care for geriatric patients. Two goals were established for this thesis. The first goal was to investigate which problems nurses must overcome while treating geriatric patients in the trauma ward. For the second goal, the problems focused on by nurses when dealing with geriatric patients in the trauma ward were investigated. Quantitative research was carried out in hospitals in České Budějovice, Písek, Jindřichův Hradec and Liberec. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The questionnaire was anonymous and contained 22 questions focused on geriatric patients in general, dementia in geriatric patients, hearing loss, bowel movements, and dentition loss in patients. The questions should answer the following hypotheses: nurses perceive hearing loss as a difficult obstacle while caring for geriatric patients hospitalized in trauma wards. Nurses perceive dementia as a difficult obstacle in the care of geriatric patients hospitalized in trauma wards. Nurses working in trauma wards focus on dentition loss and the dietary troubles caused by it in geriatrics patients. Nurses working in trauma wards focus on problems with bowel movements in geriatric patients. In conclusion, it can be said that nurses perceive the care of geriatrics patients as difficult, though at the same time know it is important to address each patient individually and solve the problems associated with seniors.

Care for persons with dementia (Alzheimer's disease) institutional and home care comparison (VČ region)
BOROVKOVÁ, Lucie
This Bachelor's Thesis is a comparative study of the possibilities of institutional and home care for persons suffering from dementia (Alzheimer's disease) and the resulting effect that each kind of care has on the patient. Through a content analysis of publishing resources, I drew up a theoretical part where I attempt to discuss the subject in question as comprehensibly as possible. My primary focus is on memory, the aging process, diagnostics, therapy and the specification of Alzheimer's disease. This is followed by a questionnaire aimed at comparing the two types of care through the survey method. I was mainly interested in the aspect of hygiene, opportunities of socialisation, communication and the free time activities of the patient. Each type of care is discussed separately before identifying the several similarities and differences. This also enabled me to determine the overall effect of the care on the patient and his satisfaction.
View of Medical and Social Employees to the Topic of Restrictive Precautions into Residence Social Facilities
SKRUŽNÁ, Andrea
This bachelor thesis elaborates the theme of ?The Health and Social Service Employees´ Views of the Problems Concerning the Restrictive Measures Imposed Upon Social Facilities Providing Accommodation?. Restrictive measures can be defined as a means used to restrict movement of the social services users. These measures can be applied only to the situations defined by Act No. 108/2009 Sb.*, on Social Services. This act stipulates even the precise procedure for the process of applying these restrictive measures. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is focused on the characteristics of the social facilities providing accommodation, their users and employees, on determining the restrictive measures including the related duties of social service providers, as well as characteristic features of the dementia syndrome, since the person living with this syndrome are a target group of users of the social facility providing accommodation in which this research has been carried out. The main aim of the practical part of the thesis was to find out what opinion the employees carrying out professional activities had on the restrictive measures imposed upon the Čížkovice Pensioners´ Home, which serves as an example of such social facility. The strategy of qualitative research has been applied to the implementation of the research, in particular the enquiry method and the technique of the half-structured interview. Afterwards the main research question was formulated. For answering this question three partial research questions had to be determined. They were focused on the degree of social employees´ knowledge of these restrictive measures, on the care for persons with the dementia syndrome and on the employees´ reaction to problematic behaviour of these persons. This bachelor thesis will be made use of as a feedback for the above mentioned employees, i.e. those carrying out professional activities in the Čížkovice Pensioners´ Home, where the research has been carried out.
Alzheimer's disease in the family
ŠEDIVÁ, Martina
The baccalaureate work treats of the issue of Alzheimer?s disease. The main focus is on family care. It deals with aging in general, represents the types of dementia, mentions the diagnosis and treatment, describes the early signs and symptoms of Alzheimer?s disease. Furthermore, the thesis provides advice on effective communication with a person suffering from this most common form of dementia. Caring for a relative with Alzheimer?s disease in a home environment is particularly challenging because the disease is progressive and, eventually, completely debilitating. This subject is discussed more deeply in the next part of the thesis. In the final chapter, I demonstrate theory application on the case reports, based on my personal professional experience.
