Chemical composition of atmospheric aerosol PM2.5 in Ostrava
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Kubátková, Nela ; Večeřa, Zbyněk
Contribution deals with the study of chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols fraction PM2.5 in Ostrava-Radvanice with focus on analysis selected organic compounds, so-called molecular markers that are used for identification of emission sources of aerosols.
Nanoparticle Formation by Thermal Decomposition and Oxidation of Manganese(II) Acetylacetonate
Moravec, Pavel ; Smolík, Jiří ; Bakardjieva, Snejana ; Levdansky, V.V.
Over the last decade, Mn and MnOx nanoparticles has been extensively investigated due to their great importance in catalysis, electrochemistry, ion exchange materials, batteries and other areas (Si et al., 2005; Han et al., 2006). This work describes preliminary experiments producing manganese nanoparticles by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using manganese(II) acetylacetonate (MnAA) as a precursor.

Nanoparticles and their health risks
Večeřa, Zbyněk ; Mikuška, Pavel ; Moravec, Pavel
Comprehensive characterization of main sources of nanoparticles (NP), mechanisms of their action on human and health risk of NP. Presentation of two projects dealing with inhalation of NP by animals.
Analysis of organic markers in atmospheric aerosol fraction PM2.5 in Ostrava-Radvanice and identification of emission sources
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Kubátková, Nela ; Večeřa, Zbyněk
Atmospheric aerosols fraction PM2.5 sampled in Ostrava-Radvanice during winter 2012 were analysed for selected organic compounds, so-called molecul markers that serve as indicators of main emission sources of aerosols, especially burning of biomass, fossil fuels, wood, traffic etc.
Seasonal variation in concentrations of metals and ions in urban aerosol in Brno and Šlapanice
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Vojtěšek, Martin ; Večeřa, Zbyněk
Urban aerosol particles in the size fraction PM1 were collected in Brno and Šlapanice in winter and summer of 2009 and 2010. Aerosols were analysed for ions and metals. Local traffic in summer and coal and wood combustion during household heating in winter were identified as the main emission sources of aerosols in both towns. Secondary aerosol components formed a significant part of aerosol during the whole year.
Generation of Binary COOx/SiO2 Nanoparticles from Organocompound Precursors
Moravec, Pavel ; Smolík, Jiří ; Bakardjieva, Snejana ; Levdansky, V.V.
In recent years cobalt and cobalt oxide nanoparticles have attracted substantial research effort because of their potential applications such as protective materials, catalysts, magnetic data recorders, batteries and gas sensors (Jang et al., 2004). To improve their functionality and biocompatibility nanoparticles are frequently coated with SiO2 (Teleki et al., 2008). In this work, we studied CoOx-SiO2 binary nanoparticles synthesis by metal organics chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) using organo-compound precursors cobalt acetylacetonate (CoAA) and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS).

Unique exposure system for the whole body inhalation experiments with small animals
Večeřa, Zbyněk ; Mikuška, Pavel ; Dočekal, Bohumil ; Vojta, Šimon ; Míšek, Ivan ; Moravec, Pavel ; Smolík, Jiří
The especially inhalation chamber is constructed for chronic exposure studies of small animals to nanoparticles under strictly controlled conditions in frame of project „Study of transport of inhalated nano-sized particles (Pb, Cd) and their allocation in organs“. The inhalation chamber builds from a glass and stainless steel and makes possible long-term inhalation procedures (up to 60 days, 24 hours/day) with up to four discrete groups of mice population (up to 60 individuals each) or of rats population (up to 20 individuals each) under controlled illumination, temperature, relative humidity, doses (0.5 x 106 - 5 x 106 particles/cm3) and size (10-60 nm) of nano-sized particles which are synthesized via aerosol route in a hot wall tube flow reactor using metal organic precursors.
Seasonal variation in chemical composition of submicron urban aerosol in Brno
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Večeřa, Zbyněk ; Vojtěšek, Martin
Submicron aerosol particles in the size fraction PM1 collected in Brno in winter and summer of 2009 were analysed for both selected inorganic (ions, metals) and organic components (PAHs, hopanes and steranes, monosaccharide anhydrides, monocarboxylic acids). Special attention was paid to analysis of organic molecular markers to identify the major emission sources of aerosols.
Analysis of metals and ions in atmospheric aerosol in Brno and Šlapanice
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Vojtěšek, Martin ; Večeřa, Zbyněk
Analysis of metals and ions in aerosol PM1 and comparison of concentrations during winter and summer campaigns in Brno and Šlapanice in 2009, identification of main emission sources.
Concentrations of monosaccharide anhydrides in PM1 and PM2.5 aerosol
Mikuška, Pavel ; Křůmal, Kamil ; Vojtěšek, Martin ; Večeřa, Zbyněk
Analysis of monosacharide anhydrides (levoglucosan, mannosan, galactosan) in two aerosol size fractions (PM1 and PM2.5) and comparison of concentrations during winter and summer campaigns in Brno and Šlapanice in 2009, identification of main emission sources.
