What is educational background influenced by?

In September survey approximately a two thirds of respondents expressed their opinion that everybody has a chance to get such education according to his or her abilities. Then respondents had to answer a question, what circumstances and various facts influence educational background. Respondents often suppose human abilities and diligence to be important, when trying to get higher education. In other part of survey respondents had to talk about their own educational background. Czech citizens think that education helped them to get general knowledge and professional qualification, when most of them share this opinion.

On the elections to the regional councils

All respondents eligible to vote (except Prague citizens) were asked the following question: ‘The elections to the regional councils are going to be held in October. Will you participate?’ The question was answered yes by 54% of those surveyed, while 33% said no and 13% did not know. Those polled who expressed willingness to participate in the elections were then asked the following open question (without a list of parties being used): ‘What political grouping or party are you going to vote for in the elections to your regional council?’ The answers indicate that most votes would be given to the Civil Democratic Party (ODS, 28,5%) and the Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD, 28,5%), followed by the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM, 16%) and the Christian and Democratic Union–Czechoslovak People’s Party (KDU-CSL, 8%) and the Green Party (SZ, 7%).

In September 2008 CVVM SOÚ AV ČR investigated whether respondents trust to selected politicians. They were given a list with 28 names of top politicians who represent political parties present in Chamber of Deputies.

Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation in September 2008 In September 2008 within the regular survey CVVM SOÚ AV ČR, v.v.i., questioned respondents about their confidence in constitutional institutions. In this month there was a question about their trust to Chambers of Parliament, Government, President, Local and Regional Councils. As a part of the CVVM surveys there is a question about public satisfaction with current political situation in the Czech Republic. The regular survey of public confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation help to monitor development of public attitudes in the long term.

Party Preferences and Voting Model in September 2008

In September survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information : Party preference and a model of voting behaviour. Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for. Voting model indicate anticipated result of elections to Chamber of Deputies in the time of the survey. Voting model comes out of Party preferences but it includes only those who want to take part in elections and they answered us a Party they would vote for – in short this group does not include undecided people and non – voters.

Prestige of occupations

In its regular survey ‘Our society’ in June 2008 the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on the reputation of 26 selected occupations. The most prestigious occupation according to the opinion of the Czech population is a medicine doctor, followed by a scholar, a university educator and a teacher on basic school. Among the most prestigious occupations we can find a nurse as well.

Czech Health system in View of Public

As a part of June survey realized by CVVM there were the questions about health system. In the concrete, the poll concentrated on selected aspects of the medical care, for example, how the respondents rate the physicians, when serving medical information, or if the patients have the possibility to decide on their treatment. Press release also includes comparison of actual findings with results from previous surveys.

Public about the Prague Spring and about the Communist invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968

In January 2008 Centre for Public Opinion Research surveyed opinions about the Prague Spring and about the Communist invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968. The respondents were asked if they have a lot of informations about these topics and how strong was, in their opinion, the impact of selected social groups and institutions on the events of 1968 in Czechoslovakia. The survey also focused on how importace of those events the Czech citizens ascribe.

Citizens on U.S. Anti-Missile Radar Base in Czech Republic

According to June survey of CVVM SOÚ AV ČR 66 % of Czech citizens did not agree with planned deployment of U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic, on the other hand 26 % of respondents would approve it. 68 % respondents expressed their opinion that this question should be decided in a referendum, 23 % of Czechs disagreed with holding a plebiscite in this matter. People who are against the referendum are for the most part supporters of idea to locate the U.S. anti-missile radar in Czech Republic.
