Transformation of conceptual models into the information systems implementation
Vagner, Vlastimil ; Řepa, Václav (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
This thesis deals with the linkages between data models from conceptual models to physical design of information bases, used for implementation. The aim is to analyze the modern approach to design systems and specify how detailed the conceptual modeling and impact on the quality of the final form of application or system, including processes that take place in advance to the next level of design. Approximated the techniques the transition between these levels and will take into account structural features and limitations of selected platforms and requirements for their design and mutual coherence level view of the system. For the purpose of the thesis the well known data modeling methods are being analyzed together with their applicabilities.
Comparison of tools for design and access to the ORACLE database and the possibility of their use for teaching at the University of Economics in Prague
Neumannová, Klára ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is aimed at search, selection and comparison of tools for Oracle database design and access and marginally also at search, selection and comparison of tools for creating simple database form applications. All of this to support Database course at the University of Economics. In the first part of the thesis I am defining pre-selection criteria for each instrument category that are designed to eliminate inappropriate tools and their count. In the second part I am defining benchmarks for each category, serving as comparison and rating tools that meets the pre-selection criteria and also were approved by the head of this thesis. In the third part I'm presenting the overall results of comparison and the best tools of this evaluation. These tools I recommend to use for teaching of the mentioned database. The thesis could serve as a base for decisions about replacing the existing tools used for mentioned database teaching or as an inspiration for students searching Oracle database design and access tools.
Comparison of Open Source relational database systems
Nohejl, Petr ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
The goal of this work is to bring comparison of significant Open Source relational database systems and one proprietary system. The comparison of the systems consists of functional comparison according to the actual trends in relational database systems and furthermore on performance testing, which will show up how efficient are single systems during execution of various commands and for which situations it is appropriate to use them. This work can be divided to three parts. First part is focused on overview of the market situation, choice of the systems intended to compare and introduction of the systems in light of their history, present state and future trends. Comparison criteria, database model for SQL commands testing and methodology of testing process are determined in the second part of this work. And finally results of the comparison and performance testing are in the third part of this work. Benefits of this work can be seen from several different viewpoints. The first aspect is the comparison of single Open Source database systems and retrieval of differences between them. Next aspect is comparison of Open Source products with proprietary system, where the source code can be considered as a business secret. Last but not least aspect is comparison of single types of commands themselves, whereof reader will obtain overview, which commands and language constructs can be used and which ones should be avoided.

Competence of persons practicing canistheraphy in the Czech Republic
VALENTOVÁ, Pavla
The diploma thesis focuses on the area of canine therapy as one of forms of the zoo-therapy, which is a part of comprehensive rehabilitation methods. Canine therapy serves as a support of the psychosocial health of clients from all age groups, where a presence of a dog is used. It is method widely used in social work, social rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The theoretical part if the diploma thesis has been divided into two parts. The first part deals with a field of the zoo-therapy and it focuses on a terminology in that field, its history or methods and forms of the zoo-therapy. It notices, however, also umbrella organizations in the zoo-therapy, Czech as well as international ones. The second part is devoted to the canine therapy from its beginning, i. e. since the beginning of a man´s coexistence with a dog. The theoretical part describes possibilities for providing the canine therapy in accordance with the current legislation. The author also devotes to a composition and training of a canine therapy team and to its preparation for passing of the canine therapy tests. Currently, there is missing a database of people who are engaged in the canine therapy in practice. An aim of the practical part of the diploma thesis is to design such a database structure that would allow an easier contact among these people and therefore an easier access to getting relevant information and experience. The database should contain information for people who are supposed to be interested in services of canine therapy teams. The author published a call in magazines Dog ? Man´s Friend and Dog´s World on websites. The call addressed people practising the canine therapy and it invited them to participate in the research. A technique of e-mail survey (CAMI) was used to collect the data. Further a questionnaire with open questions was used. The other used technique was a content analysis of documents. The database of people practising canine therapy in the Czech Republic has been created. At the same time the collected information has provided a basis to compare competences of these people. The database could be used in order to improve a communication, an exchange experience and a complex development of the field.
Comparison of the possibilities of object-oriented and relational databases
Šolar, Tomáš ; Palovská, Helena (advisor) ; Pavlíčková, Jarmila (referee)
This thesis presents the theoretical description of relational and object-oriented databases, including the underlying basic concepts. The paper briefly describes the specific database systems according to various categories. Work tries to look at all the facts in general terms therefore does part of it explain other database principles. On the example of a small library the paper displays the strengths and weaknesses of both principles. Later the paper describes more thoroughly the Caché database system, which can be addressed by both principles. The difference between object and relational approach is then shown in this environment. The goal is therefore to provide side information about the various principles, define the differences in categories and then show the problems on a practical example. Further clarify the specific database system and try to demonstrate the previously defined categories in this environment. One's own contribution to the treated subject can be found in different approaches of the specific models, the comparison of the two approaches on particular examples, the examination of the selected database system and conducting a comparison of the principles in the Caché environment.
Examination and measuring of Oracle database system b-tree index inefficiency
Klepetko, Vítězslav ; Macák, Petr (advisor) ; Palovská, Helena (referee)
This thesis describes the Oracle database b-tree index and compares it to the concept of a b-tree as a graph theory structure. It analyses main factors causing inefficiency in b-tree index which emerge during DML queries execution. It shows to what extent the inefficiency manifests and describes ways of dealing with it. For the purpose of index mechanism analysis a method called block dumping is used. The level of inefficiency is determined by measuring queries duartion in a database created for that purpose. Inner fragmentation of index database block, segment fragmentation and high value of clustering factor are identified as main inefficiency-causing factors.
Application of BI in system for skill increasing
Laušman, Jakub ; Novotný, Ota (advisor) ; Svoboda, Zdeněk (referee)
This Diploma thesis deals with the analysis and proposal of the pilot BI solution for the company Svoboda & Partner CZ s.r.o., engaged in the automechanic expertise. Fundamental objectives of this work focus particularly on the above mentioned pilot BI solutions and partial objectives deal with an analysis of the company and its needs, arising from business strategy and market analysis applications available to support the visualization of transaction reporting. These objectives have been achieved by analyzing the company's business model in chapter seven, further analysis of needs and problems within the company in chapter eight. Before the analysis, the diploma thesis deals with a survey of available applications that offer functionality of dynamically generated graphs to aid visualization of transaction reporting in chapter six and finally a major analysis and preparation of pilot BI and transaction reporting for this business which you can find from chapter 9 to chapter eleven. Contribution of this work for the company will be a complete analysis and delivery of all necessary documents in order to decide whether the above BI solutions to the company implement or not. In the case of a positive decision of the company, it is expected that thanks to BI solutions the ways of looking at corporate data can be more expanded, more precise and more operational management of the company, achieving better performance, higher profits and more efficient decision-making based on better data for decision making.
