Ontogeny of selected taxa of middle Cambrian trilobites and agnostoids of the Barrandian area

This thesis deals with the ontogeny of trilobites and agnostids from the Cambrian of the Skryje-Týřovice and Příbram-Jince basins (Barrandian area, Bohemian Massif). Thesis is presented as a compilation of four papers that were published in scientific peer-reviewed journals. The introduction of the thesis serves as a general overview of the trilobite post- embryonic development and connects all published papers together. All four papers presented here are focussed on modern description of the post-embryonic development of Sao hirsuta, Ptychopariida sp. A, Ptychopariida sp. B, Ptychopariida sp. C, Ellipsocephalus hoffi, Ellipsocephalus polytomus, Hydrocephalus carens and Ecca- paradoxides pusillus. In addition, a discussion about the life-history strategies of early developmental trilobite stages is presented. It has been suggested that Sao hirsuta and Ptychopariida sp. A had benthic protaspides and that the early ontogenetic stages of Ptychopariida sp. B, Eccaparadoxides pusillus and Hydrocephalus carens were likely lecithortophic. Consequently, it has been documented that species with benthic protaspides show a strongly restricted geographic distribution and that lecithotrophic taxa seem to be associated with higher latitude areas. Ontogenetic development of Cambrian eocrinoid echinoderms of the Barrandian area

This diploma thesis presents the first study focused on the ontogenetic development of eocrinoid echinoderms in the Czech Republic. Parsley's work (2012) on ontogeny of the genus Gogia from south China is the model study. The aim of this thesis is a comparable study of ontogeny of eocrinoid echinoderms from Cambrian of the Barrandian area. Akadocrinus jani Prokop, 1962 was studied. Using detailed morphological description and measurement of various parameters, three different ontogenetic stages have been established: juvenile ontogenetic stage, mature ontogenetic stage and gerontic ontogenetic stage. Thecal height is the deciding factor for the determination of the specific ontogenetic stage. Further, during ontogeny of this species some trends in changes in the size of body parts are observed (e.g., changes in the diameter of thecal plates). In-depth study of morphological details showed that the originally distinguished two species, Akadocrinus jani Prokop, 1962 and Akadocrinus nuncius Prokop, 1962, represent one species only. Taxonomic position of the species Bactroceras sandbergeri (Barr.,1867) from the Czech Ordovician

Taxonomic position of the cephalopod Bactroceras sandbergeri (Barr., 1867) from the Ordovician of the Prague Basin was subjected to wide discussions and disputes in the past. The species was first classified within the genus Bactrites. Later, a separate, monotypic genus Eobactrites was defined. At present, the species is assigned to the genus Bactroceras. It belongs to the family Baltoceratidae, the genera of which are supposed to represent the oldest orthoceridans. The order Orthocerida is one of the most successful and most diversified cephalopod groups of the Paleozoic Era. In this thesis, a revision of Bactroceras sandbergeri has been made after a detailed study of about one hundred specimens. Attention was paid to those features, that are missing in the original species descriptions or that were neglected in the past. Special attention was paid mainly to muscle scars, structure of the siphuncle and morphology of the embryonic shell. The embryonic shell was originally described as Tretoceras parvulum Barrande, 1868. In addition, Orthoceras naufragum Barrande, 1870 was synonymized with the studied species and the species Orthoceras interpolatum Barrande, 1870 was assigned to the genus Bactroceras. Early Devonian Foraminifera from the Prague Formation

Lower Devonian foraminifera are known from only a few localities globally and thus are not much investigated. The taxonomy, as well as further use of this group is insufficiently known. One of the main areas of research of foraminifera is the Barrandian area in the Czech Republic. This thesis follows previous studies of this territory but focuses particulary on the Prag formation, which has proven to be rich in foraminifera communities. Taxonomic studies were conducted at two Lower Devonian sites, namely the Na Stydlých vodách quarry and the Požáry quarry. The study showed that foraminifera communities described from the Na Stydlých vodách quarry were dominated by the following genera: Hyperammina, Colonammina and Tolypammina. The highest abundance was recorded at the transition of dvorecko-prokopské limestones and řeporyje limestones and in dvorecko-prokopské limestones. At the Požáry quarry, the communities were dominated by tubular genera of Tolypammina, Hyperammina and Bathysiphon and spherical genera of Lagenammina and Colonammina. The abbundance of Colonammina is unusually high, the genus has been described rarely from other parts of the world so far.
Irone ores from the Krušná hora (hill)

Krušná Hora near Nový Jáchymov belongs in Barrandian area to one of the most important localities with the occurrence of Ordovician sedimentary iron ores. Rich reserves of iron ore and easy access to this area was known and used since many centuries ago. Use of deposits laid the foundation for the rich history of mining and metallurgy in Křivoklátsko. The work is divided into two thematic parts. The geological section is devoted to the construction of tectonic bearings, its stratigraphy, mineralogy, petrology, lithology and paleontological finds. Briefly describes the development of this sedimentation area. Self-described history of the geological survey. The history of the use of bearings is described in the second part, which is divided according to individual companies engaged in mining there. Particular attention is paid especially to companies conducting mining during the 20th century. Self-described termination of mining and mine disposal. Attention is paid to the technical equipment of the mine and the current state of the remains of the mining activities.
Hyoliths of the Barrandian area

of Mgr. Martin Valent doctoral thesis Hyoliths of the Barrandian Area The submitted Ph.D. thesis summarizes recent information on comparatively poorly known group of invertebrates - the hyoliths. The first part of the thesis is composed by six main chapters focussed in detail on various aspects of hyoliths; major characteristics and ecology of hyoliths, progress in systematic of hyoliths, principles of hyolith classification, stratigraphical and palaeogeographical distribution of hyoliths, hyoliths within the Bohemian Massif and morphology of hyoliths. Up-to-date information has been included in all chapters. New data were published in five author's papers on hyolith colour patterns, systematics of hyoliths, pattern of palaeogeographic distribution and palaeoecologic interactions between hyoliths and various elements of the Cambrian invertebrate fauna. Short appendage consists of the Czech-English-Chinese terminological dictionary, simplifying study of Chinese literature.
Early Devonian Foraminifera of the Barrandian area

The first part is devoted to basic information on systematics, general biology of foraminifera, morphology of their tests which is important for taxonomy and also on ecology. The following section relates to characteristic of the Devonian, with the emphasis on the Barrandian area and its stratigraphy plus characteristic of the Na Stydlých vodách quarry where samples were taken for the purpose of this thesis. In the last part, results of the Early Devonian foraminifera of the Barrandian area research are compared with similar studies conducted abroad.
Open-air exhibition of rock types in Všeradice - proposal of the scientific scope

The microboring activity in barrandian seas was generally low. It was limited by relatively cold geostrophic currents in outer parts, and the seafloors in inner basin depressions were also adversely influenced by stagnant d18O-positive and heavy-metal-rich bottom waters. The really flourished microborers were only in two stratigraphical intervals, and both have shown /"redbeds-like/" deposits. The first developed close with major end-Tippecanoe regressions in Praha sequence, and the second occurred in the Daleje-Trebotov sequence. These /"redbeds-like/" periods correspond mineralogically, geochemically and paleobiologically to relatively hot humid climates (~ mesotrophic but well oxygenated waters). It differed from other long intervals characterized by marine Corg and silica burial (cherts)
