Analysis of the pyrolysis process of plant biomass
Jičínská, Karolína ; Ivanova, Tatiana (advisor) ; Kolaříková, Michel (referee)
Nowadays, there is an increasing consumption of fossil fuels however their combustion is associated with release of great amount of harmful substances into the atmosphere. Polluted environment and the rapid depletion of fossil fuels lead to increasing utilization of renewable energy sources. Biomass, one of these sources, can be transformed by thermochemical and biochemical processes into material/product with a higher energy value. The promising thermochemical process is pyrolysis. It is a process where the temperature heats material without access of media containing oxygen. This Bachelor Thesis entitled "Analysis of the pyrolysis process of plant biomass" was written as a literary review based on search and analysis of information for scientific articles from the well-known databases. The present Thesis summarized basics of pyrolysis as well as analyzed and compared various pyrolysis processes. The main processes are represented by slow and fast pyrolysis and also torrefaction. These processes are reviewed and evaluated, including technologies (reactors) that are nowadays applied. By pyrolysis process various kinds of carbon-based materials can be treated, however biomass is most commonly used for these purposes. Specific examples of scientific studies of plant biomass, which tested a potential use and output products, are also presented. The output of pyrolysis process consists of three products, namely liquid, solid and gaseous substances. The most desired output of pyrolysis is a liquid product, called as biooil, which has a wide range of utilization. In the last part of the Thesis advantages and disadvantages of the pyrolysis process and its energy and economic evaluation are presented.

In detail are also described dietary fiber, fiber content components, its importance, nutritional recommendations, fiber sources and there are presented some products of dietary fiber. Legislation of creamy ice creams and technology from mix preparation to freezing are described. In the practical part, the task was to prepare standard creamy frozen cream and its subsequent comparison with samples containing different types of dietary fiber. Samples with fiber were eleven and were rated immediately after production and after one week freezing. Results were obtained by sensory analysis, drain tests and tests of stability. Objective was to find the fiber, which would not be noticeable in the sample and whose addition to the formulation would also improve the rheological properties of ice cream. In the next part were produced two samples contain only milk, concentrate from Stevia and dietary fiber. The team of five specialists from Department of Food Technology of Mendel University in Brno took part in sensory analysis.

Nephropathy and tumour development caused by plant alkaloids aristolochic acid
Bárta, František ; Šácha, Pavel (referee) ; Stiborová, Marie (advisor)
Aristolochic acids (AA) are alkaloids contained in plant species of the family Aristolochiaceae. These plants are used since antiquity in traditional medicine to treatment of many varied diseases. There are known anti-inflammatory effects of these compounds, however these alkaloids exhibit mutagenic and carcinogenic properties. Despite of this fact, plant extracts AA are still used in traditional medicine, e.g. in China, India, Taiwan. Aristolochic acids are proven to be the cause of disease designated Aristolochic Acid Nephropathy (AAN, theretofore known as Chinese Herbs Nephropathy (CHN). This unusual nephropathy leads to a total renal failure. The late complication of this disease is the development of tumours in urothelial tissue of patients. AA can form persistent stable covalent DNA adducts. Formation of these DNA adducts lead to AT→TA transversion, the unique mutation in tumour suppressor gene p53 responsible for tumour formation. Balkan Endemic Nephropathy (BEN) is associated with AA, too. In this instance is supported also influence of another factors, e.g. mycotoxins (ochratoxin A). However, in all probability AA contribute to a development of this disease particularly. This hypothesis is supported by finding of AA-DNA adducts in tissues of patients suffering from AAN and BEN and that of...

Protection of the untreated sewage water environmental
BELEŠOVÁ, Petra
The topic "Environmental Security of Wastewater System" was selected for the creation of my thesis by several fundamental reasons. The main one is the vital importance of water for the functioning of human society.Drinking water sources are limited and the current relatively easy access to good quality water leads to irresponsible waste of this commodity.Besides wasting there is another big problem with environmental pollution, which is closely related to the degradation of sources of drinking water. With the increase of human population, environmental conditions began to worsen rapidly and this issue became to be discussed by multinational organizations. The so-called Environmental Security is currently very topical subject. It is introduced gradually into school curricula.Large amounts of funds have been invested to the environmental safety of water management in the past few years. An especially, there have been build many waste water treatment plants. The thesis is oriented locally on the municipality of Příbram. Its administrative area covers 74 municipalities and military training area of Brdy. The administrative area is mostly formed by smaller communities that are self-sustaining in water management. It is necessary to ensure sufficiently good conditions of the environment to prevent its degradation. The aim of this thesis is mainly to map the impacts of failure of sewage system and eventual propose of appropriate interim solutions of such failure. The research question is closely related to it: What is the current level of environmental safety of water? To achieve the set objectives, primarily I applied the method of literary research, through which was described the basic information necessary to understand the issue. It was also used method of qualitative research, which was carried out on the basis of interviews with experts in that field. The collected data were organized in a logical survey and analyzed by the a SWOT analysis. The thesis is divided into two main sections. The first one is a theoretical part, which describes the water cycle, explains what is infrastructure and, consequently,it highlights the importance of critical infrastructure. It also explains the concept of water management and presents the basic characteristics and methods of processing and treatment of drinking and waste water. It also states the basic legislation governing the issue of water and ultimately defines the concept of environmental security. The second part describes the sewage system in the area of Příbram and maps the ways of creation and the subsequent magnitude of failure of analyzed wastewater treatment plants. In direct relation to this,it assesses the possible emergence of environmental impact.Waste water can be divided into several groups according to where and how they arise.Taking account of their origin, wastewater may contain a wide variety of harmful substances.A failure of the wastewater system would be not only a current problem of environmental pollution at the site where the waste water was getting into the nature, but a long term adverse effect, which would be later manifested in the form of,for example, contamination of soil and groundwater, which would subsequently mix with drinking water resources. It could also lead to the death of some animals, disabling eating crops in that location and spread of various infectious diseases. This condition is highly undesirable and therefore it is necessary to implement preventive measures to prevent environmental safety. From this research,it was found that the formation of potentially serious impacts on the environment due to the failure of the sewage disposal plants in the area of Příbram is not expected. The operators are ready to remove immediately and quite efficiently incurred defects in order to avoid serious long-term failure. In relation to this, the environmental safety of the sewage disposal plants in the area of Příbram can be evaluated as very good.

Vliv růstových regulátorů na proteom rostlin v průběhu klíčení
Habánová, Hana
Seed germination is a complex process during which an embryonic plant contained within a seed transforms into a seedling. The majority of species, including model plant Arabidopsis thaliana produce dry seeds that will fully re-establish metabolism after imbibition. This early phase of a plant's life is highly important for its survival and its progress depends on both internal and external stimuli. This thesis entitled "Effects of plant growth regulators on proteome dynamics during seed germination" is focused on effects of light and plant growth regulators on germination. To get an insight into molecular mechanism of germination, proteome dynamics in germinating Arabidopsis were investigated. Seeds were imbibed in presence of plant growth regulators in continuous light or dark and material for LC-MS proteome profiling was harvested after 24 and 48 hours. Altogether, abundances of more than 1100 proteins were followed. PCA analysis and a detailed pair-wise comparison of mock-treated seeds provided evidence that the modern proteome-wide analysis is a promising tool for plant germination research.
