Transition programme
FLEISCHHANSOVÁ, Pavla
The author focused her thesis on the transition from school to work in people with mental disabilities. The Current Status section provides the basic terminology definition of mental disability. The Quantitative Evaluation section captures the division and characteristics of individual degrees of mental disability. These are followed by a description of individual signs and causes of mental disability. To achieve a theoretical balance of the thesis, abilities of people with mental disabilities are assessed also in terms of a qualitative personality structure. The thesis describes specific characteristics of mental functions: perception, memory, thinking, attention, emotivity, and volitive traits. The thesis mentions documents affecting the rights of people with mental disabilities and it emphasises the right to education and employment. Opportunities for upbringing and education of persons with mental disabilities are monitored by their age and within the Czech educational system. Job opportunities for young people with mental disabilities are governed by the Employment Act and specific social programs also have their impacts; they are, for example, supported employment and transition programme, which provide support to people with mental disabilities in fulfilling their right to employment and integration into the mainstream society. The objective of the thesis is to describe the method of the transition programme and the definition of the supporting factors affecting the degree of inclusion in the occupational environment. To answer the set research questions, the author chose a qualitative research. The qualitative research is conducted through a case study. The author chose the following methods of data collection: participant observation, document analysis, and problem-focused interview, using instructions, with the parents of young mentally disabled people who have used or still use the transition programme service. The course of the programme and the fulfilment of the set objectives are influenced by the user?s personality, his or her natural social environment, schools and teachers, employers and workplace environment, and the consultant?s personality and the quality of their work with the user. The author perceives the transition programme as a specific programme, defined by legislation, of social rehabilitation service, which has its established place in an open civil society.

Technological dynamics and social capability: comparing U.S. states and European nations
Fagerberg, J. ; Feldman, M. ; Srholec, Martin
This paper analyzes factors that shape the technological capabilities of individual U.S. states and European countries, which are arguably comparable policy units. The analysis demonstrates convergence in technological capabilities from 2000 to 2007. The results indicate that social capabilities, such as a highly educated labor force, an egalitarian distribution of income, a participatory democracy and prevalence of public safety, condition the growth of technological capability. The analysis also considers other aspects of territorial dynamics, such as the possible effects of spatial agglomeration, urbanization economies, and differences in industrial specialization and knowledge spillovers from neighboring regions.

Perception of social standards and social pathology by Romani children of lower school age
ČECHOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis points out selected social pathological phenomena and their perception by Romani and non-Romani children of lower school age. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical parts. In the theoretical part I first focused on definition of the standard and the value system of the Romani. Then I concentrated on the term social pathology and I specify selected social pathologies, namely the terms aggressiveness, alcoholism, smoking, pathological gambling, theft and drugs, and relation of the Romani minority to these social pathological phenomena. In the last part I deal with a lower school age child, his/her physical, mental and social development. A characteristic of a Romani child is also a part of this chapter. The aim of the research performed was to find whether perception of selected social pathologies by Romani children differs from perception of these social pathologies by non-Romani children of younger school age. I used the methods and techniques of qualitative research in the practical part, namely the method of questioning and technique of semi-structured interview. The research sample consisted of ten Romani children of younger school age, a complementary sample consisted of ten non-Romani children of younger school age. The research was performed at two primary schools in Jindřichův Hradec. The research led to a finding what relation Romani children of younger school age have to selected social pathologies compared to non-Romani children of younger school age, what their approach to addiction is and whether the selected social pathological phenomena occur in the respondents? families. The results of the research confirm that permanent cooperation on preventive programmes for young people at primary schools and youth centres is necessary, particularly focusing on Romani pupils and their families, where social pathological phenomena occur. Introduction of preventive programmes into practice not only with the assistance of teachers, but also of the wide public, would make the beginning of puberty easier for children of younger school age, without threatening external influences.

The Jewish population of the judicial district Sedlec, and their social status until the year 1945 (with a specific heed to the year 1940)
KRUCHŇOVÁ, Lucie
The aim of this propounded thesis has been to elaborate a register of Jewish population in the judicial district Sedlec, and to essay the creation of the reflection of their wealth. The filing cards from the Jews' card files were the primary source, which were enriched by police ordinances and the census from 1930. This thesis is set in the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia; therefore, I devoted a chapter to this period, where besides other things I explain the term "Jew" in accordance with the Nuremberg Laws. There is an overview of regulations that restricted the freedom of the Jews, from which the view on curtailing of the hated minority by the Nazis comes. The important part of this piece of work is the description of how the Jewish religious community worked which gives us an insight into the life of this community. Attention was also dedicated to the social structure, including other factors that affect it; hence, this work contains a chapter which provides an overview of the research in this field. Another part is a list of ninety-four people of the Jewish faith or origin formed by communities and families living in them. It is accompanied by a text part which shows the material and financial resources for individual families. The work is enriched by annexes: tables, graphs, maps, and last but not least, some photographs of some slaughtered Jews by the Nazis appearing in the list.

Boundary of social disciplining of subject population. Manor of Hluboká nad Vltavou in 17th and 18th Centuries.
MATLAS, Pavel
Generally, the work deals with social changes, which resulted in creating a modern society. Nonetheless, it does not deal with obvious institutional and structural changes. The focal points on the contrary are quiet unobtrusive transformations of moral imperatives and period conduct patterns. The work tries to depict theses changes not in period literary and normative output, but in everyday experience of unprivileged social classes. As far as the theoretical level is concerned, the work is based on the concept of social disciplination and discussion about its anti-etatistic concept. The central focus lies in answering a question whether these theoretical enticements can be used and practically verified also in particular conditions of the Czech early-modern period state. For that purpose, the typical South Bohemian manor of Hluboká nad Vltavou was chosen as a model environment. Concerning the time, the work is formally limited by years 1661 and 1765, i.e. the arrival of new owners on one side and the escalating activities of the Enlightened absolutism on the other. To meet the selected objective, the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used.
