PETEŘÍKOVÁ, Simona
In the current population, a number of self-insufficient seniors have been increasing who need a help of other people (e.g. family) or by facilities with full-time social assistance. The Act concerning social services has brought numerous significant changes to social services system and among others, it defines activities which social services can provide individual facilities. This thesis presents a overview on problems of ageing process at senior-care facilities and points to possible risks in social service providing. The survey for this study was carried out in three retirement homes of the Social Services Centre in Tachov (Czech Republic) between December 2009 and January 2010. The information from persons was collected via moderated interviews. The main objective of this work is to find out and to compare requirements of residents in individual retirement homes as concerns social services, i.e. whether provided services are sufficient, or which services the seniors miss in the facilities. In the theoretical part of the thesis, I focus to the problem of ageing and associated consequences. I also analyze the problem of quality standards, especially its individual adjustment to users. One part of the thesis also deals with the description of the Social Services Centre in Tachov and the retirement homes that belong to its administration. The practical survey in this study compares requirements of the occupants in the individual retirement homes. The results of this thesis might be used to extend the offer of activities in retirement homes and this information can also motivate the personnel as well the management of these facilities.
Expectations of senior citizens prior to and after the moving in the seniors houses
DVOŘÁKOVÁ, Martina
In today´s society, there are an increasing number of seniors who are not conforming to changes, which come with ageing. They seek a help of social services either due to health problems, the loss of self-sufficiency, the incapability of taking self-care of themselves, or due to any difficulties of social status. Major changes of social services were initiated by the Act No. 108/2006 as amended and the consequent regulation No. 505/2006, which came into effect on January 1, 2007. The changes are based on new approach to social services, their forms, categories and given conditions. The Act has also introduced a new welfare, which is intended to support additional care either at home, or in convalescent homes. According to the abovementioned act, the retirement homes provide accommodation to seniors with reduced self-sufficiency caused by age that need regular assistance of another person. Basic services provided in the retirement persons homes are: accommodation, meals, gathering, help with daily self-care and personal hygiene, socializing, social-therapeutic activities and legal aid with individual rights, lawful requirements and arrangement of personal matters. The objective of this thesis is to define the problem of old age and senescence, psychical and social alterations of seniors, their needs and changes in communication. The thesis also deals with the adaptation to aging and stress caused by entering a retirement home. The survey for this study was carried out in the retirement home at Horní Planá (Czech Republic). A half of its occupants were interviewed to learn how they made their decision to stay there, the way of adaptation and general satisfaction with services. The conclusions of this study are to be aimed particularly to needs of the retirement home at Horní Planá as to improve the quality of provided services.
Seniors' defination of the term "dignity"
CHUMLENOVÁ, Martina
My baccalaureate work deals with the interpretation and understanding of the concept of ``dignity{\crqq} by senior citizens. My research is focussed on the elderly living in homes for the aged. The objective of my work consists in monitoring the current evaluation of the above mentioned concept by senior citizens living in the Seniors Home Hvízdal and in the Seniors Home Máj, both based in České Budějovice, Czech Republic. The theoretical section of my work deals with the basic concepts related to old age, i. g. the biological and social, the psychological and spiritual aspects of old age. The issues of retirement planning, the concept of ageism, the relationship between a senior citizen and his or her family as well as between a senior citizen and society are discussed here. The theoretical section is also concerned with social care for the elderly, namely with homes for the aged, both in the general perspective and as related to the two aforementioned Homes for Senior Citizens Hvízdal and Máj. The last theoretical section includes the determination of the concept of human dignity and official documents related to human dignity protection. The practical section of my work is based on two hypotheses. Two working hypotheses have been outlined, both of which have been tested under the use of controlled questionnaires in both social care institutions. It has not been proved that the elderly living in these homes for senior citizens would evaluate the treatment of the staff as being in conflict with the clients´ dignity. The second hypothesis that most seniors do not know what the concept of ``dignity{\crqq} includes and represents has not been proved either. The research as outlined in the Abstract has served both for the purposes of my baccalaureate work and for the internal purposes and needs of the Seniors Home Hvízdal and the Seniors Home Máj.
