This study focuses on structural analysis of narrative of the double journey film The Queen according to three types of structuring - classical three act structure, sequence approach and the hero's journey. Each of those methods is examining the story with regard to the fact that the film has two protagonists. It is also taking into consideration the possibility of adjusting these model structures to fit this particular story. The study concludes that each of those methods can be beneficial if used in service of the chosen theme.

Aristoteles on MRI: Screenwriting through perspective of cognitive science
Šifra, Miroslav ; POZZI, Jaroslav (advisor) ; KAJÁNKOVÁ, Lucia (referee)
Our stories are not taking place in the cinema, but in the mind of viewer - that's basic idea behind this thesis. Best tools for insight into the minds of people are coming from cognitive sciences, but their perspective is often ignored by screenwriters. How does the pattern-seeking brain works? Which psychological effects can influence the first act of screenplay? What is an anchoring? What screenwriter needs to know about selling home bakery? What is theory of mirror neurons and what it can teach us about an empathy? How much information is just too much? And how viewer's attention operates? These questions and examples from author's own work attempt to describe how to look at screenwriter's craft through the cognitive perspective.

Narrative cracks and their compensation
Hoffmann Polenský, Tomáš ; DOLENSKÝ, Martin (advisor) ; ČIHÁK, Martin (referee)
Narrative gaps are dramaturgical problems which disturb the viewers? perception of the storyline and the fictional world of a film. The text analyses specific narrative gaps on the example of the most popular Czech films produced between 2000?2010. This work explores the question of the popularity of these films despite their narrative problems. In searching for the answer it tries to see the problem from the perspective of the audience as well as the filmmakers. From the perspective of cognitive film theories, it describes the auto-compensation processes applied by the viewers. It also describes the mechanisms of attraction which are used by filmmakers to cover up the narrative gaps.
Prescription of norms of film narrative and dramatic structures in confrontation with deviations from these structures in the work of selected European filmmakers
Janáček, Tomáš ; HENDRICH, Vladimír (advisor) ; BOUDA, Marek (referee)
This thesis concerns the literature that discusses the construction of a film drama, and often is used in connection with the process of screenwriting and dramaturgy. Models and theorems contained in such literature are confronted with the significant work of European cinema. Discrepancy between the dramatic conventions and selected movies is further interpreted. The goal of this work is to offer a broader perspective on the possibilities of cinematic storytelling, and to understand how such deviations from narrative conventions can enrich cinema.
How to write a story?
Mašinová, Milada ; VAJCHR, Marek (advisor) ; DUFEK, Jiří (referee)
In my thesis I focus on screenwriting literature. I decided to scrutinize two very different titles: Robert McKee's Story: Substance, Structure, Style and the Principles of Screenwriting and Blake Snyder's Save the cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You'll Ever Need. Literature approaching this subject is not very common in Czech environment which is the reason I concentrate on two foreign publications. I am not only introducing the books themselves, I also present their authors, I examine the chapters on characters and on structure, I apply McKees's and Snyder's principles on two selected feature films. Lastly I summarise pros and cons of both of the books and the value they could bring to potential readers.
