Teaching of parasitism in elementary and secondary schools
Čiháková, Kateřina ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Ehler, Edvard (referee)
Main aim of this master thesis is to map the situation of parasitism teaching in elementary and grammar schools. Thats why it contains analysis of reachable elementary and grammar school textbooks - it informs about various kinds of rating the textbooks, which can help both - current and future teachers of biology - to better know and identify reachable textbooks and choose the right ones for the parasitism teaching. It also contains test results of students parasitism knowledge, which are generally very good. Anyway they should learn much more about parazite's manipulation of their host behavior. Other part of my master thesis shows the results of grammar school teachers-filled questionnaires. All questionnaire results (teachers' and students') show that there can be an improvement in parasitism teaching. In next section you can find the Framework Education Programme analysis, own educational programme draft - workbooks, didactic games and powerpoint presentations. Thanks to the realization of teaching the parazites manipulation of their host behavior I found out that students' interest in the topic is quite big so it would be a shame not to share this newly explored area of parasitism with them. Key words: parasite, host, manipulation hypothesis, questionnaires, parasitism teaching
Nucleotide variability in \kur{enol-1} gene of entomopathogenic nematodes \kur{Heterorhabditis bacteriophora} and \kur{Steinernema feltiae}
HEJNÍČKOVÁ, Martina
The topic of this bachelor thesis is enol-1, parasitism-related gene in entomopathogenic nematodes. First part of this thesis deals with pattern of the enol-1 nucleotide variability. Nucleotide sequence of enol-1 was obtained from 9 strains of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and 8 strains of Steinernema feltiae. I characterised and compared its structure and nucleotide variability. Phylogenetic analysis of enol-1 was done with closely related nematode coding sequences, acquired from internet databases. The second part of this thesis is devoted to virulence testing. Larvae of Galleria mellonella were infected with different strains of entomopathogenic nematodes, and their mortality was summarized.
Testing of the interactions of Pythium oligandrum with patoghenic and non-pathogenic fungi
Kolařík, Miroslav
The final report summarizes results of five main objectives defined by the contract. 1. Characterization of the bacterial and fungal contamination of various samples, quantification of the active compound. 2. Utilization of the nutrient sources by Pythium oligandrum. 3. Molecular genetics characterization of P. oligandrum. 4. Interaction of P. oligandrum with selected yeasts and moulds. 5. Testing of the preparation Biorepel in the real conditions.
Manioulation of spatial behaviour of the slug \kur{Deroceras reticulatum} by the parasitic nematode \kur{Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita}
PECHOVÁ, Hana
Slug pathogenic nematodes are under a serious threat of predators and scavenging invertebrates and can easily be destroyed together with consumption of the host. Invertebrate cadavers are rapidly and preferentially removed by predators and scavengers within minutes or hours, The nematodes need several days to finish their life-cycle in the cadaver. By comparing the after-death positions of slugs killed by 6 different methods, it is evident that P. hermaphrodita can manipulate the spatial behaviour of its slug host to prevent the host from being predated or scavenged, or from desiccation conditions until the nematodes complete their development.
Economic affectivity of health insurance analysis with view to payment of sickness benefits
Paikertová, Sylvie ; Chytilová, Helena (advisor) ; Svoboda, Miroslav (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to calculate expenses and returns brought by the health insurance transformation in the Czech Republic. In particular, economic and social impact due to the change in health insurance payments. The author firstly focuses on implementation of particular economic models in the frame of given and on the characteristics of the health insurance in historical context. The economical theories dealing with analysis of the markets with asymmetric information including its solution through insurance are going to be applied for a chosen topic. Due to the connection with these facts, the main acquisitions of american economists Akerlof, Spence a Stiglitz will be mentioned. Their works solving these problems, were the source. Analytical part concentrates on evaluation of acquired statistical data, concerning the number of sickness absence during the time before and after the reform. Correlation in context of change in health insurance payments will be found. Further, significance of a transition to solidarity principle and effectiveness of shift in government competencies directly to employers in ensuring health insurance payments will be assessed. The research is going to be done like a complement of the analytical part. Main goal of research is, after evaluating relevant data, give a proper insight about influence of a reform on companies. During the work with the data an analytical and quantitative method will be applied. According to the results obtained in practical part, possible alternatives of future development will be predicted. At the same time direct and indirect influence of the reform will be accented. The aim of the work will be evaluation of effectiveness of accepted methods in the reformed system of health care insurance.
