Feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients in hospitals
MINÁŘOVÁ, Miroslava
The bachelor thesis deals with feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients in hospitals. The paper aims at finding out whether the sanitary care carried out in hospitals corresponds to the needs of the patients and further at identifying factors impeding the provision of sanitary care according to the applicable standard. The paper also aims at suggesting new feasibilities of improvement in sanitary care for patients at bed departments. In view of these goals four research questions were set: 1) Does provision of sanitary care in hospitals correspond to the needs of patients? 2) Are the patients satisfied with the sanitary care provided by the medical staff? 3) What impedes the nurses in provision of quality sanitary care for the patients? 4) Is it feasible to improve the sanitary care for patients in bed departments? The method of qualitative research was applied for collection of research data. The questioning method by means of structured interviews with the patients was chosen. The questionnaire contained 17 closed questions. Further method was an unstandardized interview with the nurses containing 11 open questions. Another method was structured impartial monitoring of patients and nurses. The results were noted and entered into tables. The research file was made up by the in-patients and nurses in the Neuro Surgery Department of the University Hospital in Pilsen. By means of the research the level of sanitary care was surveyed, the impediments to its provision were identified and suggestions for its improvement were formulated. The aims of the research were fulfilled. Based on the analysis of responses in the practical part of the research, hypotheses were set based on the 1st and 2nd questions and based on the 3rd and 4th research questions answers were formulated. H1 {--} The sanitary care provided in hospitals corresponds to the needs of the patients. H2 {--} Patients are satisfied with help of medical staff when providing sanitary care. Response 1 {--} Nurses are impeded in providing quality sanitary care for patients by lack of time and lack of staff. Response 2 {--} Feasibilities of improvement of sanitary care for patients at bed department are respecting privacy of patients, washing the patients' hands before meals and provision of lifting devices for lying patients. The facts found out can help to realize the importance of sanitary care and to motivate to keep the existing good level of provision of care at the department the research was carried out at.
Comprehensiveness and completeness of managing of nursing documentation in selected medical institution
ZÁMOSTNÁ, Barbora
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic ``Complexity and completeness of keeping nursing care documentation in a selected medical facility``. The thesis is drafted in the theoretical part and empirical part. The objective of the empirical part of the investigation was to survey the complexity and completeness of keeping nursing care documentation in a selected medical facility. In accordance with the objective, we set two hypotheses. H1: Nurses keep nursing care documentation in accordance with the applicable standard. A H2: Nurses in surgery units keep nursing care documentation more complexly than nurses in internal departments. To collect data we chose the quantitative method of research by means of nursing care audit. The research sample consisted of 60 pieces of nursing care documentation, 30 pieces of documentation in a surgery unit and 30 pieces of documentation in the internal department of the Tábor Hospital, a.s. The overall success rate in the audit ``Complexity of keeping nursing care documentation{\crqq} was 99.73 per cent in the internal department and 91.12 per cent in the surgery department. At the same time, no audit index results have dropped below 76 per cent in the entire set (60 pieces of documentation), and below 53 per cent in partial sets (30 pieces of documentation). H1 hypothesis: Nurses keep nursing care documentation in accordance with the applicable standard, has been, on the grounds of the results obtained, confirmed. The overall success rate of the audit of the nursing care documentation in the internal department was almost by 8.5 per cent higher than that in the surgery department. For that reason, it is possible to make the conclusion that the H2 hypothesis: Nurses in surgery units keep nursing care documentation more complexly than nurses in internal departments, has not been confirmed. In the final discussion, results from the conducted audit in the two departments were summed up and, subsequently compared with literature. Practical use was set in the final part. The results of the bachelor thesis were given at the disposal of the staff nurse of the Tábor Hospital, a.s., to conduct improvement in keeping documentation or to conduct subsequent audits. Last but not least, a local standard for keeping nursing care documentation as the basis for drawing up a new standard in individual departments of the team of nursing care, was drafted and subsequently submitted.
Realization of Nursing Care Concept in Practice
BALDOVÁ, Martina
The main objective of the thesis was ascertaining of realization of the Nursing Care Concept issued by the Ministry of Health in 2004, in Czech hospitals. To achieve results a quantitative research method was used. While collecting data we used a questioning method, by means of questionnaires. The questionnaires were intended for staff nurses/deputies of nursing care in Czech hospitals. As a research sample we chose hospitals in the Czech Republic which provide acute ward (bed) care. The found out data should clarify what is the actual status of realization of the Nursing Care Concept in Czech hospitals.
Nurses knowledge of The quality evaluation of provided nursing care
KLIMEŠOVÁ, Jana
The name and the topic of my thesis is evaluation of the quality of given nursing care. The quality of nursing care as integral part of quality of medical care is gaining ground not only in medics but also in public. Words like quality, standard, audit are commonly used by every nurse but do they know meaning of separate words? Do they know how to ensure high-quality care and how to evaluate it? These and other questions must be answered in order to retrieve possible insufficiencies and thus, to ensure high-quality nursing care. That´s why I chose this topic for my thesis. Theoretical part first characterizes nursing, its aims and organization of nursing care. Extensive part is devoted to quality of nursing care, systems and models to ensure and evaluate the quality. Practical part is focused on research and its interpretation. There were two research units and were created by nurses from surgical wards of Hospital in České Budějovice and Hospital in Jihlava. In order to collect needed data I chose quantitative method, when the way of data collecting was questionnaire. The aim of the thesis was to chart nurses´ knowledge on evaluation of quality of given nursing care through two hypotheses. The hypothesis supposing that nurses working in Hospital České Budějovice know more about evaluation of quality of given nursing care than nurses working in Hospital Jihlava was confirmed. But it is evident from the results that both investigated units have certain reserves. The other hypothesis supposing that more than 80% nurses consider the audits helpful for improving the quality of nursing care was not confirmed. According to the results, for more than half of addressed nurses audit is only stressing matter when hospital management looks for faults in their work. I mean, this opinion results from insufficient knowledge or incorrect understanding of the audit sense. I would like to use the thesis and its results as a base for creating scientific lectures and subsequent presentation. The head nurse asked me to present my thesis and the results at the meeting of head nurses in autumn 2008. I was asked for the results by Jihlava Hospital management as well.
Contribution of sisters and ward sisters to the nursing care quality
NEKLOVÁ, Lenka
This degree work concerns the role of sisters and ward sisters and their share in the nursing care quality. The theoretical part of the work is divided into three sections. Section one presents sisters and ward sisters as active members of the nursing management. Section two deals with the managements functions of the sister staff and their impact on the nursing care quality. Section three reviews the basic issues of the nursing care quality. The purpose of section one was to review the scope of activities of sisters and ward sisters with respect to the nursing care quality. The purpose of section two was to identify the key difficulties preventing sisters and wards sisters from increasing the nursing care quality. The purpose of section three was to analyse the working relationships between sisters and ward sisters with respect to the nursing care quality. While mapping out the situation in the selected hospital (the Faculty Hospital in Plzeň), we asked the following six research questions: 1. What are the areas where the hospital sisters may affect the nursing care quality? 2. What obstacles the sisters can see preventing them from taking part in continuous improvements in the nursing care quality? 3. How do the hospital sisters co-operate with the respective ward sisters concerning the nursing care quality? 4. What are the areas where the ward sisters may affect the nursing care quality? 5. Are there any obstacles preventing the ward sisters from taking part in continuous improvements in the nursing care quality? 5. How do the ward sisters co-operate with the respective sisters concerning the nursing care quality? The questions were asked during informal discussions with ten sisters and ten wards sisters at the Faculty Hospital in Plzeň. The information and data collected were processed using the framework analysis method whereby the answers to the research questions were derived. The research identified the following main problems preventing the hospital sisters and ward sisters from increasing the nursing care quality: inefficient time management on the side of ward sisters, insufficient competencies of ward sisters regarding staff remuneration, insufficient application of the existing nursing-care quality improvement tools by both sisters and ward sisters, limited engagement of the hospital sisters and ward sisters in creation of internal standard procedures, and reluctant attitudes of the hospital staff to changes. Based on the shortcomings identified through our research we have worked out proposals on practical improvements.
